Chapter 277: Don’t Even Think About Taking His Wife
This man clearly lacks any sense of propriety. Yun Yubai glanced at him, "I’ve been working here all morning, what’s wrong with eating a little of your Prince’s food?"
"Prince and Princess haven’t sat down yet, and you just plop yourself down. If you don’t know the rules, I’ll teach you," Qing Feng retorted.
Nanli quickly intervened, "It’s fine. The talismans sold this morning were all drawn by the master. It’s normal for him to sit down first since he’s exhausted. Set an extra place for him."
With the princess’s approval, Qing Feng had no choice but to step aside, and the servants set an extra place.
Ye Siheng, always prioritizing Nanli, softened his expression upon hearing Yun Yubai had worked all morning. "Then, master, please eat more."
After all, there was more work in the afternoon. Yun Yubai didn’t respond; he thought Ye Siheng’s devilishly handsome face was a calamity, causing him to lose a good disciple. He snorted and began eating.
Ye Siheng sensed hostility from Yun Yubai, though he didn’t know why, so he dropped the courteous demeanor.
Yun Yubai said he would just eat a little, but soon enough, the eight dishes were empty. He even muttered, "Oh dear, your Prince’s household must be rich, but why is the food so sparse? Any more rice? Fill another bowl for me."
A servant brought the last bowl of rice. Yun Yubai poured the soup over it, mixed it, and ate with gusto.
Zhi Mi was stunned. "Master, didn’t you eat last night?"
The money from selling talismans surely wasn’t enough for this.
Yun Yubai swallowed his food and replied, "No, I haven’t eaten for three days!"
Ye Siheng’s expression darkened with barely contained anger. "You’ve eaten everything. What will A’Li eat?"
Yun Yubai chuckled awkwardly, "She has a small appetite and didn’t work much. A few bites will do. Prince, have the kitchen prepare more dishes tonight, preferably spicy ones—I love spicy food."
Ye Siheng had never met someone so shameless. Nanli’s lips twitched. She thought, not becoming his disciple was one of her wisest decisions. It’s easy to invite gods in but hard to send them away.
She sent Yun Yubai off with a sarcastic suggestion to find a cooler place. Ignoring her, he spotted the black wooden carriage of the Prince’s household and climbed in first.
Qing Feng reached for his sword again, but Nanli sighed, patting his shoulder, "Don’t fight him, it’s pointless."
Yun Yubai stuck his head out, "Exactly, my swordsmanship isn’t bad either."
He was determined to mooch his way through. Ye Siheng, eyes deep with suspicion, helped Nanli into the carriage and headed back.
In the store, he questioned Zhi Mi about the morning’s events. Zhi Mi, unable to lie, recounted everything truthfully. Ye Siheng’s expression remained unreadable, but his black eyes grew colder.
He snorted, "It seems he’s not just mooching but hasn’t given up."
Zhi Mi wanted to urge him not to hinder Nanli’s progress, but facing Ye Siheng’s gaze, he trembled and kept silent.
Ye Siheng stood silently until nightfall before leaving. Zhi Mi relaxed, wiping the sweat from his brow.
In the carriage, Yun Yubai hadn’t given up. "That boy’s looks are fine, but mortals age. One day, he’ll lose his charm."
Nanli sat straight, her eyes flashing coldly. "I will age too; it doesn’t matter."
"No, if you become my disciple, I will teach you everything. In five years, you’ll keep your beauty," Yun Yubai tried to persuade her. "Then you can choose any handsome man you like."
Nanli frowned slightly. "I suppose you’re still single?"
Yun Yubai retorted, "What? Is it wrong to be single?"
"No, I married because the Prince is my love. My heart only has room for him. No matter how handsome other men are, they can’t fit in," Nanli said seriously. "Since you have no beloved, you wouldn’t understand."
Yun Yubai rolled his eyes, mumbling, "Showing off, are we? I have a beloved too!"
Nanli was surprised, "Didn’t expect you to be sentimental. Why are you still single then?"
Yun Yubai was about to answer when Nanli said, "I see, she must find you gluttonous and a drunkard."
Yun Yubai ground his teeth, glaring at her. "Why is your mouth so venomous? I’m suave and talented. If we meet again, she’ll be captivated by my charm!"
Nanli laughed, "So, you don’t even know who she is?"
Yun Yubai was struck silent, scooting away to avoid further conversation.
Nanli saw his dejection and remarked, "Even with your high-level skills, you still have regrets. It shows that ascension doesn’t solve everything."
"Enough, I get it," Yun Yubai waved his hand, unable to bear her sharp words.
Still, he accepted their incompatibility. Yet, he needed food.
At the Prince’s mansion, Yun Yubai behaved, waiting in the flower hall. But when Ye Siheng returned, the atmosphere turned tense. His gaze carried a murderous intent, as if he wanted to slice Yun Yubai to pieces.
Ye Siheng spoke first, "Since you claim to have great swordsmanship, I’d like to test it."
Yun Yubai raised an eyebrow, examining the tall, imposing man before him. No denying, Ye Siheng had an extraordinary presence for a mortal. But challenging him? Suicidal.
"Why disgrace yourself? I’ve only lost one duel since mastering my skills. Challengers couldn’t even hold their swords afterward. Prince, don’t ruin your promising future for a whim," Yun Yubai said arrogantly.
Ye Siheng’s eyes were like dark pools, impatient. "If you don’t dare, then don’t. No need for excuses."
Yun Yubai’s face darkened, standing up abruptly. "Fine, it’s been years since I dueled. Let’s play."
Ye Siheng added, "If you lose, leave the capital immediately."
Yun Yubai realized how petty Ye Siheng was, afraid of losing his wife, willing to duel. Nanli knew Yun Yubai was formidable and couldn’t help but worry.
