Chapter 237: To Cut the Grass, One Must Remove the Roots
Fan Guizong didn’t have time to think much. His face was grim as he took out several talismans, each with crooked symbols drawn on them. After they were activated, the talismans automatically floated towards the broken holes and entered the formation barrier. A faint red light flickered as the talismans began repairing the damaged openings.
He smirked disdainfully. He had already guessed who the intruder was. It could only be the famous Ninth Princess from the Capital. Although she had seen through his headless corpse formation, breaking through his meticulously crafted formation was simply wishful thinking.
However, his smirk froze on his face in no time. Because within the formation barrier, another ten or more holes were suddenly smashed open! The openings expanded rapidly.
Fan Guizong’s smirk vanished, replaced by a grave expression as he quickly summoned more talismans to repair the formation. But the speed of repair couldn’t match the speed of the openings being created! It was like trying to fill one hole while another opened up!
"Indeed, you’ve got some skills..." Fan Guizong gritted his teeth in frustration. If this little girl wanted to challenge him, then he would fight her to the end and let her know that he wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
He took out a yellow talisman, pricked his finger, and drew symbols with his blood. When this yellow talisman was activated, the spreading of the openings immediately ceased.
A strong wind rose in the courtyard, tossing Fan Guizong’s robes and sleeves about. The imposing aura forced many members of the Fan family to keep their distance, and the dazzling red light made it unbearable to look directly at it.
Suddenly, a golden light soared into the night sky, then descended straight down!
Fan Guizong was startled, and for the first time, panic appeared on his face. Without hesitation, he threw all the talismans he had.
He formed hand seals again, trying to strengthen the barrier. But the golden light was fierce, and no matter how hard Fan Guizong tried, cracks began to appear in the red barrier.
His whole body trembled, and his hands shook violently as he formed the seals. His face had lost all color.
The golden light seemed even more powerful. With a loud bang, it broke through the barrier of the formation. The entire mansion seemed to tremble, and the courtyard trees swayed violently in the strong wind.
Fan Guizong staggered back, coughing up blood that stained his clothes red. He clutched his chest, gasping for breath.
The tightly closed gate was kicked open with one kick.
The moonlight spilled onto Nanli. She retracted her foot, her eyes wide and bright, looking innocent.
Beside her, Xie Beihan shrank back. He watched Nanli kick the sturdy gate open and couldn’t help but marvel. If he had been kicked like that, he would have been seriously injured, if not killed.
Nanli walked into the courtyard. On the ground were the bodies of the dead guards, remnants of evil talismans still lingering. She frowned.
She raised her eyes and spoke coldly, "Killing is one thing, but you actually tore apart their souls. That’s ruthless."
Fan Guizong immediately guessed that she was the Ninth Princess from the Capital. She had earned quite a reputation, not only in Mu Nation but also throughout the world. He had initially dismissed her, as he had been practicing these occult arts for many years and had never encountered an opponent. Killing anyone was as easy as lifting a finger for him.
But he hadn’t expected that his meticulously laid out formation would be broken by her. And it happened right in front of the Fan family! This made him lose face!
He steadied himself, his lips still curled in a cold smirk. "To cut the grass, one must remove the roots. If I don’t tear apart their souls, do you want them to become vengeful spirits to haunt you?"
Saying this, he pressed his foot on one of the skulls.
The Fan family, initially relieved to see Nanli coming to their rescue, became anxious again. Although Nanli and Xie Beihan didn’t know Fan Guizong’s identity, seeing five skulls in total, they couldn’t help but understand that he was the one behind the setup.
Xie Beihan’s expression changed drastically. He hurriedly said, "Don’t use too much force with your foot. Let’s discuss this."
Fan Guizong sneered and moved his foot slightly, seemingly intending to crush the skull underfoot, causing the hearts of the Fan family members to immediately tense up.
However, Nanli remained unfazed, seemingly indifferent to the situation. Fan Guizong squinted his eyes. "The Ninth Princess, how about it?"
These skulls had been sealed for several years. With just a little effort, he could crush them. When that happened, the headless corpse formation would be completely unsolvable, and no one in the Fan family would survive!
Xie Beihan and the guards showed expressions of anger, which pleased Fan Guizong.
"You, a defeated subordinate, want me to kneel to you?" Nanli gave him a disdainful look. "I’m not related to the Fan family. What does their life or death have to do with me?"
Fan Guizong looked disdainful. "You can’t even sacrifice yourself for others, yet you still practice Dao?"
"Don’t waste time. If you want to crush the skulls, just do it. Stop babbling," Nanli urged impatiently.
After hearing this, Xie Beihan became anxious and couldn’t help but shout, full of worry. He gritted his teeth and said, "This sir, I am the Noble Prince of Zhenbei, with a prestigious status. Will you accept me kneeling to you? If you let go of the Fan family, will you spare their lives?"
Fan Guizong glanced at Xie Beihan disdainfully. "Even if Royal Heir comes, it won’t work. I just want her to kneel three times and kowtow nine times. I’ll ask you again, will you kneel or not?"
His foot was already exerting force, and a crack had appeared on one of the skulls.
"You’re really..." Nanli was about to cast a restraining spell and approach, but Fan Guizong had already anticipated her move. He remained calm and activated a talisman to neutralize Nanli’s restraint spell.
A cloud of dust scattered, and Fan Guizong fixed his gaze, only to find Nanli missing from in front of him.
Frowning, before he could react, his back suddenly hurt, and he was kicked away.
He fell heavily to the ground, rolling twice.
Fan Guizong’s internal injuries were already severe, and this kick made him feel like his body was tearing apart from the inside.
He looked up and saw Nanli standing in front of the skulls, expressionless. She uttered a sentence that made him almost spit blood: "I told you to stop babbling, why didn’t you listen to advice?"
Truly, villains die from saying too much.
