Chapter 172: Chapter 172 Oral Inquiry

"He has a son who had an accident a few years ago," Lawyer Zhao said.

"Sorry," Ruan Hongzhuang apologized on Shen Siyuan’s behalf.

"It’s okay, it’s all in the past." Lawyer Zhao said with a smile, seeming to have moved on.

Shen Siyuan, however, did not speak; his gaze was fixed on the young boy nearby.

Seeing this, Lawyer Zhao kept his smile, but what he was truly thinking remained unknown.

"My name is Zhao Ru Jin. My dad said he met my mom in Ruijin."

Shen Siyuan thought it sounded quite romantic.

But then Zhao Ru Jin continued, "They also got divorced in Ruijin."

Um... I guess that’s consistent, and romantic in a way?

"Do you like playing King, Peace Elite, or Identity V?..."

Zhao Ru Jin had a lot to say, and Shen Siyuan wanted to respond, but there were surveillance cameras in the room.

Ruan Hongzhuang, hearing that Lawyer Zhao’s son had an accident and seeing Shen Siyuan’s distracted state, also began to understand a bit.

Just then, a middle-aged police officer entered the room, pausing momentarily upon seeing the three of them.

Then he looked at Shen Siyuan: "Are you Shen Siyuan?"

His tone was a bit harsh, and it was hard to gauge whether his attitude was good or bad.

"Yes, that’s me," Shen Siyuan responded.

"Do you know what you’ve done?"

The middle-aged officer pulled up a chair and sat down opposite them.

Before Shen Siyuan could speak, Lawyer Zhao was the first to ask, "Officer, how should we address you?"

The middle-aged officer glanced at him and said, "My surname is Xue. You can call me Officer Xue."

"Hello, Officer Xue, I’m Mr. Shen’s attorney. If you have any questions, you can ask me." Lawyer Zhao handed over a business card.

Officer Xue took it, glanced at the card which read "Zhao Dezhu Law Firm," and uninterestedly tossed it aside.

Bin Hai had countless law firms; he couldn’t know them all.

"What’s the use of talking to you? You’re not the party involved," Officer Xue said.

Lawyer Zhao wanted to say more, but Shen Siyuan gestured him to pause and said, "Officer Xue, ask me whatever you want."

Seeing Shen Siyuan willing to cooperate, Officer Xue stood up and called in a young officer who was holding a laptop.

"The two of you, please step outside for a moment," Officer Xue said to Lawyer Zhao and Ruan Hongzhuang.

Lawyer Zhao stood up first and said to Ruan Hongzhuang, "Let’s wait outside."

He then reminded Shen Siyuan, "Just tell the truth, don’t hide or embellish anything, I’ll handle the rest."

Shen Siyuan nodded in acknowledgment.

Once everyone had left, Officer Xue said with a smile, "You’re quite something, aren’t you? Knocking down two people at once, you do know, this constitutes grievous injury, and you could be imprisoned for no less than three and no more than ten years."

"Officer Xue, no need to scare me, I was merely defending myself," Shen Siyuan responded.

"Self-defense, do you have witnesses, or is there physical evidence?" Officer Xue asked.

"So, Officer Xue, when you say I hit someone, is there a witness? Or is there physical evidence?" Shen Siyuan asked with a smile.

Officer Xue was momentarily at a loss for words. He stared at Shen Siyuan, who appeared composed and knew today’s matters would be troublesome.

He spoke gravely, "The dash cam recorded you."

"Did it record me hitting someone? And I was just walking along the road without trying to stop any cars. Why did they have to stop their car right in front of me? Have you asked them that, Officer Xue?"

Officer Xue responded, "I will ask them about these matters. Now, let’s talk about what exactly happened that day."

A young police officer sitting beside them was taking notes, and the camera was actively recording, clearly for record-keeping purposes.

Truth be told, Shen Siyuan adamantly denied causing injury. With no eyewitnesses and no physical evidence, the case was hard to handle and involved a lot of disputes.

However, since Lawyer Zhao advised him to tell the truth, Shen Siyuan recounted the events of that day.

After Shen Siyuan finished, Officer Xue quickly said, "Regardless, you’ve injured someone now. Based on the severity of the injury, this qualifies as a criminal offense, so we will impose a two-week, that is, 14-day criminal detention on you."

Saying that, he took out some paper and a pen, intending for Shen Siyuan to sign.

But Shen Siyuan didn’t take it. Instead, he crossed his arms and chuckled lightly, "Officer Xue, that’s not quite right, is it? It only counts as a criminal offense if it was intentional harm. This was legitimate self-defense for personal rights; they started the physical confrontation."

"That would be excessive self-defense," Officer Xue argued.

"How is it excessive? It was just a fight without weapons, and I only used two moves. How could I know they’d be so fragile? How is that my fault?"

Shen Siyuan frowned, his impatience growing due to the apparent bias of the officer.

Shen Siyuan’s frowning and stern face, along with an intangible pressure, made Officer Xue’s heart skip a beat.

Considering the lawyer accompanying him, and the Ferrari parked outside, it indicated that Shen might be a person of significant influence. Officer Xue didn’t want to bite off more than he could chew and create trouble for himself.

"Officer Xue, I’ve said everything I have to say. The rest will be handled by my lawyer. We will follow legal procedures," said Shen Siyuan.

With that, he stood up and walked straight out. The young officer who was recording made a move to stop him but was held back by Officer Xue’s hand.

Officer Xue followed Shen out.

Seeing Shen Siyuan come out, Lawyer Zhao and Ruan Hongzhuang immediately approached him.

"Is it over?" Ruan Hongzhuang asked.

Shen Siyuan nodded, and Ruan Hongzhuang took his arm, "Then let’s go back. We’ll leave the rest to Lawyer Zhao."

Officer Xue took a look at the two of them and finally said, "Mr. Shen, do not leave Bin Hai for a while. We might need to summon you at any time."

"Understood," Shen Siyuan responded nonchalantly, leaving the police station with Ruan Hongzhuang.

Zhao Ru Jin looked at his father, then at Shen Siyuan, hesitated a bit, then followed Shen.

"Officer Xue clearly has a personal bias. I believe he considered your and Lawyer Zhao’s presence today; otherwise, you might have been detained for a few days. I’m not sure if there will be more trouble ahead," Shen said while getting into the car.

"Do you know where Lawyer Zhao’s strength lies?" Ruan Hongzhuang asked.

"How would I know?"

"His strength lies in his connections. A good lawyer isn’t defined by how many cases he wins, but by how vast his network is."

"Almost everyone in the Bin Hai judicial system is either his classmate or his junior or senior colleague. Your case, with his intervention, will be settled quickly. Today was merely a formality..."

Indeed, Ruan Hongzhuang spends a big amount of money annually to have Zhao Dezhu as the company’s legal consultant, not for nothing.

"Is that something you can say?" Shen Siyuan asked.

"Right, it’s all nonsense I made up..."

Since it was still early, Ruan Hongzhuang dropped Shen Siyuan off at home and went back to the office. She had a big company to run with many matters to attend to; she couldn’t spend all day with Shen Siyuan.

Shen Siyuan didn’t head straight for the office mainly because he had agreed to meet with Lin Jianming’s family.

In the meantime, while waiting for them, Shen Siyuan had a good opportunity to chat with Zhao Ru Jin.
