Chapter 15: A New General Joins Li Qiye’s Ranks!
In the Celestial Court, the Jade Emperor let out a soft sigh. The Nine Calamity Stars, entities beyond the Six Realms, were beyond his control. Their nature, their purpose in nearing the ecliptic, and the terrifying “yin” force they bore were mysteries. The Six Realms knew only that these nine dark, malevolent stars, as if driven by some cosmic mission, approached the ecliptic every millennium, flooding the realms with yin energy before retreating, a cycle unending.
In the Demon Realm, Demon Lord Chonglou sat upon his Bloodfang Throne, his crimson eyes opening to gaze beyond the heavens. “They’re coming again…” he murmured, his gaze deepening. His vision, unbound by the Six Realms’ limits, glimpsed a distant, blurred scene: nine colossal, abyss-like stars aligned in a procession. Where they passed, light warped, the five elements fled, and lesser asteroids were drawn in, reduced to nothingness.
Chonglou’s ancient demon heart, dormant for a millennium, quickened. The power awed him, yet he knew the Nine Calamity Stars were untouchable. His immortal, indestructible demon body, with unmatched spatial and regenerative powers, could defy death and the cycle of reincarnation. But contact with those stars meant instant annihilation. They were not of the Six Realms, unbound by its rules, their power on a stellar, not mortal, scale. Despite his battle-hungry nature, Chonglou could only keep his distance. Still, his blood-red eyes lingered, rippling with longing for their transcendent, unknown might.
The stars’ omens stirred not only the Celestial and Demon Realms. Across the Six Realms, great powers sensed their approach. In the Demon Realm, usually a cauldron of bloodshed and strife, an eerie calm prevailed. Great demons hunkered in their lairs, forbidding chaos. In the Netherworld, the Heavenly Ghost Emperor sat on his Nether Throne, clutching a bone goblet, his green-flame eyes blazing with ambition. “The Nine Calamity Stars… those recorded in the Nether Emperor’s Canon!” he mused. “Qingming, Rigui, Molì, Yinghuo, Fanhun, Zhaowei… legends say they bear power beyond the Six Realms. To claim even one…”
His greed flared, though he knew his limits. The Canon named the first six stars—Qingming, Rigui, Molì, Yinghuo, Fanhun, Zhaowei—based on their traits, but the final three were unrecorded, seen only as formless, chaotic orbs by the ancient Nether Emperor. In the Mortal Realm, the Mysterious Mechanism Pavilion’s grand astrologers, Li Chunfeng and Yuan Tiangang, detected the stars’ approach and urgently reported to Li Shimin. The Tang dynasty, already reeling from the demon crisis, descended into further chaos.
At the Six Realms’ edge, in the chaotic cosmos, nine indescribably vast stars crept toward the ecliptic. Light twisted, elements scattered, and space warped into a net-like distortion in their wake. The last three stars were the most fearsome, pulverizing nearby celestial bodies into dust. The final star, a colossal darkness, dwarfed even the Six Realms in its presence.
In the Demon-Sealing Tower’s highest level, the Heavenly Demon Emperor reached the final stage of his reformation. Sitting cross-legged, he radiated waves of violet demonic aura, distinct from common demon energy, exuding an innate regality, as if born to rule all demons. With a hand seal, boom! a pulse of deep purple light erupted. He rose, his aura restrained, his skin etched with intricate violet demon patterns, radiating authority. His body was complete.
“Hahaha! This Emperor returns!” he roared, clenching his fists, savoring the tangible sensation. Quickly, he approached Li Qiye and knelt on one knee. “This humble demon thanks Master for this gift! Henceforth, I pledge to follow you through fire and blade, unwavering even in ten thousand deaths!”
His words were fervent, driven by gratitude for his salvation and awe at Li Qiye’s potential. Though not yet a pinnacle power, the Heavenly Demon Emperor sensed Li Qiye’s destiny to shake the Six Realms, perhaps to rule them. Serving such a future emperor was no shame. Moreover, bound by Li Qiye’s power, their fates were intertwined—Li Qiye’s triumph was his own.
Li Qiye scrutinized his new general, a satisfied smile spreading. “One step closer to leaving this tower…”
