Chapter 147: Please Catch the Ducks
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Please Catch the Ducks
"Hahahahaha—"
Sang Chuan burst into a soul-rattling laugh, sounding like a quacking duck, after Song Shiye awkwardly fell into the rice field.
But karma struck quickly — distracted by his own laughter, Sang Chuan didn’t notice his feet, tripped over himself while walking forward, and promptly followed Song Shiye’s tragic fate.
Song Shiye had just managed to climb out of the waterlogged rice field when, out of nowhere, Sang Chuan came flying at him from behind and sent him plunging back into the field.
[I can’t. This feels like déjà vu in the worst way possible.]
[Song Shiye: Honestly, thank you so much, but can you freaking stay away from me?!]
[The same chaotic duo, with their same chaotic antics. Wolong and Feng Chu will truly never change.]
While Sang Chuan and Song Shiye were busy struggling to get themselves out of the muddy field, the other guests rolled up their pant legs and began to wade in one after another.
Sang Ning carefully stepped into the water, lifted the legs of her pants on both sides, and turned to Director Sun: "Director Sun, did you get us into the field to plant rice shoots or something?"
No sooner had she finished speaking when a group of villagers dressed in black fabric shirts swarmed in from all sides of the field, each carrying a duck in hand.
"Ducks incoming—ducks incoming—"
Whoever shouted first triggered a chain reaction, and the villagers, as if they had received a secret command, leaned forward and hurled the ducks into the rice field with wild abandon.
"Aaaahhhh!!!"
Twenty-odd ducks flapped their wings chaotically as they descended upon the field all at once, driving the clueless guests into a frenzy of screams.
Among them, Chu Wei and her daughter, along with Chu Xi and her daughter, screamed the loudest. With their nerves utterly shot, the four of them huddled together tightly, too scared to even lift their heads.
One particularly ambitious duck soared over the group and landed directly on Li Sulan’s head.
Though it only lingered for a few seconds, the mix of four women’s relentless screams startled the duck so badly that it slipped and flapped away hurriedly.
But as it departed, its claws snagged a strand of Li Sulan’s hair, leaving her carefully styled updo completely undone.
Meanwhile, Hu Zhi, who had been desperately backing away from the ducks, collided back-to-back with Li Sulan in an unwitting act of intimacy.
The force of the collision shattered their precariously arranged four-woman formation. All five of them stumbled into the rice field in a chaotic tangle of arms and legs.
[What kind of sinister game design is this, seriously? If you’re going to throw ducks into the mix, could you at least give the guests some advance warning? Look at how you’ve traumatized the female guests!]
[Hu Zhi is the real MVP. Not only did she actively ram into Li Sulan, but when falling, she instinctively grabbed hold of Li Sulan’s hair for balance.]
[Duck bro: Hu Zhi, my dear sis, no need to thank me. That strand of Li Sulan’s hair is nothing short of the kingdom Duck Duck conquered just for you.]
The male guests handled the situation with relative composure. Though admittedly perplexed by the sudden influx of ducks, they stood frozen in place, unsure of what to do next.
Sang Ning quickly splashed her way to Hu Zhi, reaching out to help her up.
However, Chu Xi, still panicking from her fall into the field, felt someone approaching nearby and blindly stretched out her hand for anything she could grab onto for support.
As Sang Ning grabbed Hu Zhi with both hands, she suddenly felt a sharp tug at her rolled-up pant leg near her knee. Looking down, she immediately realized the culprit and her face darkened.
She had opted for elastic-waist pants today, and if Chu Xi tugged any harder, she would end up yanking Sang Ning’s pants straight down.
So, Sang Ning, her expression now devoid of emotion, helped Hu Zhi to her feet while simultaneously lifting her other leg and delivering a swift kick to Chu Xi.
Chu Xi, having finally latched onto something to pull herself upright, didn’t even get a chance to open her eyes before being booted back into the rice field.
This time, mud splattered heavily on her face, completely blinding her.
Eyes squeezed shut, she cried as she tried to wipe the mud from her face with her hands. Yet, since her palms and arms were already smeared with wet soil from her earlier fall, any attempt to clean her face only spread more mud around her eyes.
[Did Chu Xi’s family murder Sang Ning’s ancestors in a past life? Both Hu Zhi with Li Sulan and Sang Ning with Chu Xi showed absolutely no mercy here! (LMAO crying)]
[Chu Xi: Forget catching ducks; this whole thing is clearly just a setup for Sang Ning to torment me!]
At that moment, Director Sun picked up his megaphone and addressed the guests in the rice field.
"Attention, guests! We’ve released a total of thirty ducks into the rice field. Whether or not you can secure accommodations tonight fully depends on these duck bros!
Six of the ducks have cloth strips tied to their legs. The cloth strips indicate the places where you’ll be staying tonight. It’s up to you to catch the right ducks if you want a bed!"
The ducks released into the rice field were domestic mallards with incredible water-navigation skills. Sang Ning, with her legs bogged down in the muddy water, was slowed somewhat, but compared to the others, she was still managing to catch ducks fairly efficiently.
She managed to grab hold of one duck — unfortunately, it didn’t have a cloth strip on its leg. Sang Ning was just about to carry it back to the edge of the field when Director Sun shouted through the megaphone to stop her.
"Reminder to all guests: Ducks that have already been caught cannot be removed from the rice field. You must release them back into the field!"
[Director Sun is getting sneakier by the day. Seriously, how are they supposed to find the six special ducks without filtering out the majority of ducks with no cloth strips first?!]
[How else can you play? This game is pure luck at this point. May the variety show gods bless someone tonight.]
[Director Sun is clearly targeting Sang Ning here. Everyone knows she’s cursed with misfortune — she could catch a hundred ducks without a single cloth strip among them.]
[Duck bro: Hey girl, it’s me again. Surprised?]
True to form, Sang Ning proceeded to catch six ducks in a row, none of which had cloth strips on their legs. Her reputation as the unmistakable Queen of Bad Luck was thoroughly cemented.
Sang Chuan fared even worse; he didn’t catch a single duck. Furious, he shouted with his hands on his hips: "We didn’t even get wet when we first came through the village gate, but now you’re forcing us into the water? Did those earlier efforts turn out entirely meaningless?!"
As if the toil wasn’t enough, he also endured a barrage of Sang Ning’s high-decibel screeching at close range.
Completely exhausted, drenched with sweat, and temporarily forgetting the cameras, Sang Chuan impulsively yanked off his shirt, grabbed one end firmly, and used it like a makeshift net to lunge at the ducks.
[AAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I’m gonna die—is this seriously how good high school boys’ bodies look nowadays?!]
[Please, do not hesitate to present your youthful physiques to us older sisters!]
[I had no idea I had so many shameless long-lost sisters lurking around the internet.]
Song Shiye, meanwhile, came up with a hilariously unconventional strategy: scooping up handfuls of wet mud from the field and launching it at the ducks with indiscriminate fervor.
His aim, however, left much to be desired — two globs of mud hit Qin Kai and Shen Yi squarely in the face instead of the intended targets.
[Qin Kai and Shen Yi: Wait...so this brat thinks we’re ducks now, huh?!]
[Qin Kai and Shen Yi are the ultimate victims here. They probably won’t sleep tonight without jolting awake mid-dream: "Seriously, is Song Shiye mentally unhinged or what?!"]
