Chapter 235: You Didn’t Hate Me?
Looking at Xu Xiang’s straight back, Mu Yucheng could tell that under her stubborn and strong appearance, there was actually a proud but very lonely person. When he saw her walk away, he felt his heart hurt so much and it was difficult for him to breathe.
He clenched his hands tightly and frowned deeply. After a few minutes, he loosened his clenched hands and followed her silently. Between her and those strangers, he will always choose her without hesitation.
He still doesn’t know if he chose her because of his duties, or because this is what he really wanted. But one thing that he is really sure of is that he hates seeing her walk away from him. When he thought of her leaving him, he felt an unbearable pain in his heart.
After Xu Xiang left Mu Yucheng, she actually regretted her outburst and knew that she was being too emotional. She also knew that what Mu Yucheng said was not wrong, and what he said was for her own good. But after living alone in the apocalypse for so many years made it difficult for her to change her way of thinking.
She felt a little uncomfortable, and secretly glanced back. She saw Mu Yucheng silently following her, with a distance of ten steps between them. She looked away from him, then lowered her head.
An hour later, Mu Yucheng suddenly said, "It is almost midnight now. You should take a rest first."
Hearing what he said, Xu Xiang stopped in her tracks. She stood there for a while, nodded slightly, and then looked around. When she was looking for a suitable place to rest, Mu Yucheng said, "Wait for a moment."
Xu Xiang looked at him, and saw him take out a small tent from his spatial ring. In a few minutes, he had set up the tent. Mu Yucheng looked at her and said, "You should rest first. I will go find some firewood."
Before Xu Xiang could say that she had firewood, he had disappeared from there. She looked at the tent, and the regret in her heart turned into guilt. She sighed, crouched down, and grabbed her hair.
"Ha..." She sighed softly in annoyance.
After a moment of silence, she stood up and took out a picnic mat, then spread it on the ground. Sitting on a picnic mat, she took out lots of food and drinks from her space. Not long after, Mu Yucheng came back with a bunch of dry branches and leaves.
When he saw Xu Xiang sitting on the picnic mat and the amount of food she had prepared, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. Judging by her expression, he can tell that she is not angry anymore. The heaviness in his heart finally dissipated.
He put down the firewood and crunched there to make a bonfire, and said, "Although the weather is getting hotter every day, it’s still cold at night. Let’s be careful so you don’t catch a cold."
Xu Xiang watched him make the bonfire for a while, and softly said, "Mu Yucheng, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be angry at you. I don’t know why I couldn’t control my emotions back then and let the anger get in my head."
Mu Yucheng’s hands paused when he heard her apology. He was silent for a second, then continued to stack the branches and leaves and calmly said, "It wasn’t your fault. I crossed the line. I’m sorry."
Xu Xiang shook her head and said, "No, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have blamed you for my past experiences."
After she finished speaking, neither of them spoke anymore. Seeing that he deliberately took a long time to make the bonfire, Xu Xiang said, "After you made the bonfire, let’s eat together. You said you have never tasted fruit wine before, so I brew some for you to taste. Coincidentally, the wine is ready to drink today."
Hearing what she said, Mu Yucheng looked at her and asked, "You didn’t hate me?"
Xu Xiang smiled and said, "Since we met, I have never hated you. I was indeed angry with you just now, but it was because of my own problems. I know you say those words just out of concern for me."
She paused for a moment, before hesitantly asked, "Can we make up now?"
Hearing what she said, Mu Yucheng nodded, smiled slightly, and hummed. "Mhm."
After he said that, Xu Xiang patted the place beside her and said, "Let’s eat quickly, while the food is still hot."
"Mhm." Mu Yucheng made a simple hand seal, lit the firewood, stood up and then sat beside her.
After dinner, Xu Xiang packed up the dishes then stood up. She looked at Mu Yucheng and said, "I’m going to sleep. Good night, Mu Yucheng."
Mu Yucheng nodded to her and said, "Mhm. I will stay here, so you can sleep peacefully. Good night, Miss Xu."
Xu Xiang walked to the tent and opened the curtain. Before entering the tent, she whispered softly: "Thank you."
Mu Yucheng turned around and saw that the curtain closed behind Xu Xiang. After a while, he looked away and closed his eyes. The next second, his lips curved up. In an instant, his cold and expressionless face became gentler and full of warmth. It’s a pity that no one sees his smile and expression.
The next morning, Xu Xiang woke up before dawn. She sat up, rubbed her eyes, and yawned. After sitting for a few minutes, she sober up. She then took out a basin of water and a small cotton towel from her space. She washed her face and body, then came out of the tent.
"Good morning, Miss Xu. Did you sleep well last night?" The moment she stepped out of the tent, Mu Yucheng greeted her.
As soon as Xu Xiang looked up, she saw Mu Yucheng sitting on the picnic mat and looked at her. This was the first time he had asked her if she had slept well. She stared at him, feeling that he was in a good mood today. There was even a hint of warmth in his expressionless face.
