Chapter 219: Huan Yun’s Story
As soon as the thin middle-aged man finished speaking, the other refugees gasped. He really dared to open his mouth. The others looked at Huan Yun’s thin body and dirty face and thought, if the thin middle-aged man could sell his daughter for five taels of silver, he could be counted as very lucky.
Xu Xiang doesn’t care about money at this moment. She took out a small money pouch from her sleeve pocket and threw it to the thin middle-aged man. The middle-aged man quickly grabbed the purse, weighed it, and smiled brightly.
He quickly put away the money pouch, pushed Huan Yun towards Xu Xiang and said, "She is yours."
After speaking, he turned around and left in a hurry with his other family members. Looking at their backs, Huan Yun felt a dull pain in her heart, and frowned slightly. After a few seconds, the pain went away.
Before she could analyze what was wrong with this body, Xu Xiang grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the horse carriage. She pushed Huan Yun onto the carriage and climbed up, then locked the door.
Then she took out a small device from her space, stuck it on the door, and activated it. The small device hummed lowly, then opened, and a blue cover unfolded across the inside of the carriage. Two seconds later, a thin small blue barrier had enveloped the two of them.
Looking back at Huan Yun, Xu Xiang lowered her voice and asked, "When did you come to this world?"
Huan Yun looked at the sound barrier device, then looked at Xu Xiang in surprise. She sat up and asked, "How come you have the sound barrier device with you?"
Xu Xiang grabbed her wrist and urgently said, "Answer my question."
Huan Yun grimaced in pain, and said, "I don’t understand what you mean by coming here, but when I opened my eyes this morning, I was already in this strange place. Before I could process what had just happened, those people were dragging me around and trying to sell me out."
"Did you die before?" She asked again.
Hearing her question, Huan Yun’s eyes widened. She stammered and asked, "Ho... how do you know I’m dead?"
Xu Xiang let go of her wrist and sat down on the carriage floor in front of her. She looked at Huan Yun again and said, "Because I have died too. Twice."
As soon as she said this, the two of them fell into silence. Huan Yun lowered her head and sobbed softly. Sighing, Xu Xiang patted her trembling shoulder and said, "Don’t cry, it’s useless. Tell me how you died."
Huan Yun wiped her tears with her sleeve, and said, "Before I tell you how I died, I have to start from that nightmarish day."
"Nightmarish day?" Xu Xiang asked with a frown.
Huan Yun nodded and said, "A month ago, there was a big earthquake all over the world. At first, everyone thought it was a normal thing. You know that there are always natural disasters in our world. But after the earthquake, the world suddenly changed."
Xu Xiang was surprised to hear that there was an earthquake before the apocalypse. She lowered her eyes and thought: ’There should be no earthquakes before the apocalypse began. Why is it different from the past? Could it be because of the dragon and phoenix ring?’
Huan Yun didn’t notice the change in Xu Xiang’s face. She raised her head, stared blankly at the thin blue barrier, and said, "On that day, more than sixty percent of the human race became undead. The interstellar government responded quickly, but it was still too late. The reason for the mutation is unknown, and it’s spreading so fast."
She looked down at her trembling hands, recalling the scene of that day. Xu Xiang held her trembling hand and said, "It’s alright. You are safe with me."
Huan Yun raised her eyes and nodded. She suppressed her fear, and continued.
"Before the interstellar government had time to solve the problem of mutation, all the spaceships and machinery began malfunctioning one by one. There is simply no way to stop it. Even space stations fall back to the planet, destroying more than twenty percent of the world’s surface. In just three days, world order collapsed, humans began killing each other for supplies, the government split into several factions and fought internally. We can’t leave the planet because portals and spaceships can’t be used."
"Then how did you die?" Xu Xiang asked calmly.
"We were at the military academy waiting for the government rescue team. Unfortunately we waited for thirty days but no one came. There was no way to contact the outside world, and we couldn’t get any information about what was going on. Day after day we tried to leave the academy, but there were too many undead and mutants for us to deal with. There are only ten of us, and there is no way we can break out of the academy alive."
Huan Yun sniffed and continued with a trembling voice: "Last night, the barricade we built was destroyed by mutants. Captain Yu Hao asked us to run first, and he stayed behind to fight the mutants alone. Although he sacrificed himself and died to protect us, none of us survived last night. The last thing I remember before I died was getting eaten alive by a mutant. When I opened my eyes again, I was already here."
After hearing Huan Yun’s story, Xu Xiang thought for a while and asked, "Did you come with your original body?"
Hearing her question, Huan Yun shook her head as tears streamed down her dirty face. She grabbed Xu Xiang’s hand and begged her desperately.
"Xu Xiang, help me. This is not my body. I... I can’t go back to my father like this. I beg you, please help me. My Father... if I can’t go back, he has no one left. We only have each other. If I die like this, what should he do living alone in that hellish place? Xu Xiang, I beg you, please help me." She said between her sobbing.
