Chapter 124: We Must Leave Now
Hiding not far away, the third elder of the Jia tribe said, "We should do it now. Otherwise, it will be too late."
Du Nan thought for a while and nodded. He said, "Half of you will follow me, and the rest will stay here. If there is any change on the battlefield, report to us as soon as possible."
After speaking, he left with the third elder and half of the soldiers. They walked toward the open field in the middle of the camp vigilantly. Because of the fierce battle at the village’s entrance and more than half of the people of the Xiuluo tribe already evacuated, there is no one around the open field.
Du Nan saw the carbon filter placed next to the bonfire and said, "Third Elder, you stay here. I will go get that thing."
"All right." The third elder nodded and continued to look around warily.
Du Nan brought three soldiers with him, and quickly ran towards the carbon filter. After making sure no one was there, the four of them lifted the heavy carbon filter with difficulty.
Seeing that they underestimated the weight of the carbon filter, the third elder said, "Four of you, go and help them."
Four more soldiers nodded, and then went to help Du Nan and the others lift the heavy carbon filter. Before they came back, one of the soldiers waiting outside approached the third elder anxiously.
Seeing him coming, the third elder asked, "What happened?"
The soldier reported in a low voice: "The battle is over. A Lu Ge led their warriors and killed more than half of the elders’ guards, and then captured the rest. Right now, he is leading half of the Xiuluo tribe’s warriors and went to chase after the four elders. We need to leave before they return."
Nodding at him, the third elder waited for Du Nan and others to come back with the carbon filter. He lowered his voice and said urgently, "We must leave now."
Du Nan saw the soldier who came to report, and knew that they were running out of time. Sweat dripped from his chin as he said, "Let’s go!"
With more than ten people lifting the heavy carbon filter, they quietly left the Xiuluo tribe’s village. After finally meeting up with the rest of the soldiers outside the village of the Xiuluo tribe, they left in a hurry without anyone noticing. Fortunately, when they left, A Lu Ge and the others were busy chasing after Te Mu Lun and the three elders.
Unlike the Xiuluo tribe’s village which was in chaos, the Jia tribe’s village was silent. The atmosphere was heavy, and everyone knew that they shouldn’t make trouble at this time. Despite the tense atmosphere, A Lai Na was still making a fuss in her bedroom.
As the chieftain of the Jia tribe only daughter, the servants dare not act excessively towards her. Therefore, they could only persuade her gently and block her way out of her bedroom. Just when she was about to explode with anger, she heard cheers coming from outside.
She froze all over, grabbed the servant’s clothes in front of her, and asked anxiously: "What happened outside? Why did they suddenly cheer?"
The servant patted her little hand and said patiently: ""Please wait a moment. I will go over to have a look."
She loosened her hold on the servant’s clothes and urged: "Hurry up and come back quickly!"
The servant nodded and went out, closing the door behind her. A Lai Na went to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked from the outside. Feeling anxious, she couldn’t sit still, so she walked back and forth in her room.
She waited for a few minutes, but the servant still didn’t come back. Unable to wait anymore, she pounded on the locked door with her fist and shouted, "Hey! What’s going on outside?"
A guard guarding the door heard what she said, and replied: "The chieftain just came back. It seems that he successfully brought that thing back."
Hearing what the guard just said, she was stunned for a few seconds, then anxiously pounded on the door again with her fist.
Her voice was a little choked when she asked, "What did you just say? What did my father bring back?"
Thinking that she was curious, the guard answered patiently. "It’s that magical thing that can create clear water. With this, we can finally leave this place."
Hearing the guard’s words, her small body fell limply to the ground. She sat on the ground in daze for a moment and then cried sadly.
"It’s over... Xiao Xiong won’t forgive me!" She said between her sobs.
The guards standing outside the locked door looked at each other when they heard her cry. One of them scratched his head and asked, "Do you want to report to the chieftain about A Lai Na?"
The other guard glanced at the closed door and shook his head. He pointed to the door with his thumb and said, "She’s crying so loudly. She should be fine."
The guard thought for a while, sighed, and said, "Well, I guess she will change her mind after we leave this place."
The other guard nodded and said, "She is a smart girl. She will understand in the future."
While A Lai Na was crying sadly, her father and the rest of the people of the Jia tribe were busy. After Du Nan and the others came back with the heavy carbon filter, they quickly issued an order for everyone to pack up their things. Twenty minutes after Du Nan came back, the closed door opened.
Lifting her swollen eyes, A Lai Na saw her two servants finally return. She wiped away her tears angrily and said, "Why are you coming back? Get out! I don’t want to see any of you!"
The two servants looked at each other for a moment, before one of them said, "Please forgive us."
Before A Lai Na could understand what she was talking about, one of the guards raised his hand and chopped down towards her neck. In the next second, her eyes dimmed, and her petite body fell limply. Before she fell to the ground, the servant quickly caught her.
Looking at the unconscious A Lai Na, one of the servants sighed and said, "Let’s hurry up."
