Chapter 342: Instincts Are Winning

Chapter 342: Instincts Are Winning

Rain was on her way to lunch with her team, heading to a restaurant just a minute’s walk from Alexander’s building, when her phone rang. Seeing William’s name flash on the screen, she quickly answered.

"Sis, Carla is here!" William’s urgent voice nearly made her freeze mid-step. "She and Alexander hugged on the ground floor. Brother was on his way out with Dion for lunch. You need to come now! Hurry! I’ll try to hold them off. That woman might try something, knowing Brother doesn’t remember you!"

Rain’s heart skipped a beat, but before she could say anything, the line went dead.

"Hugged?!" she thought, her mind spiraling. Without wasting another second, she practically sprinted toward Lancaster Building. Her heels clicked furiously against the pavement as her determination grew stronger with every step.

Rain’s jaw clenched as she quickened her pace, her irritation bubbling beneath the surface. ’I can’t believe that woman still hasn’t given up!’ she thought, her annoyance intensifying.

Sure, she could understand if Carla needed to see Alexander for business... fine. But hugging him? In public? That was crossing a line.

"Doesn’t she have any shame?" Rain muttered under her breath, her steps fueled by frustration.

By the time she neared the building, she had already decided: if Carla thought she could just waltz in and reclaim a spot that was no longer hers, she was in for a rude awakening. Whatever Carla was up to, she wasn’t about to let it slide.

Meanwhile, Alexander’s annoyance melted the moment he saw Rain. For him, she was undoubtedly the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on, far surpassing Carla or anyone else. His irritation turned into surprise as his gaze locked on her radiant face, her usual sweet and refreshing smile directed at him.

"Rain?" he murmured under his breath, blinking several times to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

"Mrs. Lancaster!" Tyron’s exaggerated tone jolted him back to reality. Alexander realized Rain was now beside him, her arms possessively looped around his.

"I finished early and couldn’t wait for you to pick me up, so I thought I’d come straight here," she explained with a gentle smile.

Alexander felt his pulse quicken as Rain’s words, though sweetly delivered, carried an undeniable sharpness. The tension was suffocating, and for a moment, he was unsure where to look... at Rain’s calm but pointed smile or Carla’s faltering expression.

Carla’s lips twitched as if she wanted to protest, but before she could say anything, William clapped a hand on her shoulder, grinning mischievously. "You heard them! Rain and Alexander are off on their lunch date. Don’t worry, Carla, we’ll make sure your effort isn’t wasted. The staff will be thrilled."

Renzo glanced awkwardly at Carla, who managed to paste a stiff smile on her face. "I... I didn’t mean to intrude," she muttered, her voice softer now.

"Oh, it’s no intrusion at all," Rain replied smoothly. "Just a little miscommunication, perhaps."

Alexander nearly choked at how effortlessly Rain maintained her composure while clearly communicating her message.

"Shall we go now?" she repeated, turning her attention to him with a bright, expectant smile.

"Right, we should leave then," Alexander replied, giving Carla a brief nod. "We’ll leave first, Carla."

Without a second thought, he reached for Rain’s hand, intertwining their fingers as he led her out.

Alexander noticed the lingering stares and hushed murmurs as they walked down the hall. His employees didn’t even try to hide their fascination, and their voices carried just enough for him to hear snippets of what they were saying.

"She’s the CEO’s wife, right? She’s so pretty. I think I like her beauty more than Miss Carla’s."

"No wonder he’s smitten! Mrs. Lancaster looks like more of a celebrity. But I heard she’s a prosecutor!"

"Those two look so good together. A match made in heaven!"

Alexander kept his expression unreadable, but he felt an odd satisfaction swell in his chest. It was unfamiliar, a mix of pride and irritation, pride because they were right, Rain was stunning, and irritation because their stares somehow put her on display.

Rain, on the other hand, appeared completely unaffected, walking with the same poise and grace as always. She leaned in slightly and murmured with a teasing smile, "You’re causing quite a stir."

Alexander glanced down at her, his brow furrowing faintly. "I’m causing a stir? You’re the one they’re staring at."

Rain’s smile widened, though she didn’t respond. He didn’t understand why that amused her so much.

One employee fumbled with some papers as they openly stared at Rain. Alexander’s jaw tensed faintly. "People here talk too much," he muttered under his breath.

Rain suppressed a chuckle and gently squeezed his hand. "Maybe they’re just curious. It’s their first time seeing us together."

"Then they’ve seen enough," he said shortly, loosening his tie with his free hand.

As they stepped outside the building, Alexander finally released her hand, slipping both of his into his pockets. "Where are we eating?"

Rain arched a brow at his sudden shift. "You’re the one taking me on a date. Shouldn’t you decide?"

"I didn’t know this was my idea," he countered dryly, though there was no real bite to his tone.

Rain shook her head in amusement, leading the way toward the car. "Come on, I’ll choose. Let’s get lunch."

Alexander followed without argument, his thoughts clouded. He still didn’t remember everything, but as he looked at Rain, the familiarity of her presence gnawed at him, something steady and unwavering that made it impossible to look away.

Meanwhile, Tyron followed the couple closely, his thoughts swirling like a storm. How did Mrs. Lancaster suddenly appear?

Also, his Boss’ instincts seemed to be kicking in, something Tyron noticed the moment Mrs. appeared. Sure, the Boss clearly remembered Carla, but he didn’t linger with her. In fact, the boss had seemed... annoyed.

Even stranger, the Boss had gone with his wife willingly, with no hesitation, no complaints, playing along with her mini-drama like it was second nature. It was as though his body and emotions were reacting to her even if his mind wasn’t fully there yet.

Tyron couldn’t help but smirk to himself as he watched them from a few steps behind.

’Boss, your instincts are winning over that stubborn memory loss.’

He shook his head, quickly snapping back to reality when he realized he was grinning like a fool. Straightening his posture, he hurried to keep up with the two as they moved toward the waiting
