Rain had recovered quickly and was now staying in the hospital’s VIP room, where Alexander had also been transferred. His condition had stabilized, and there was no longer a need for him to remain in the ICU. However, the question of when he might wake up lingered, casting a shadow over her days.

A therapist visited daily to massage Alexander’s body and maintain his muscle health during his unconscious state. Rain had taken it upon herself to learn the techniques, determined to care for him personally once she regained full strength.

"Today, we won the case," Rain said softly, her voice filled with a mix of relief and resolve as she sat beside Alexander’s bed. "Prosecutor Wayne made sure that everyone involved in the Obsidian Order was sent straight to prison." She gently caressed his hand, her fingers tracing the lines of his palm. "Later, I’ll see Dina before they transfer her. I need to face her one last time."

Dr. Lambert and a team of top specialists visited regularly, keeping a close watch on Alexander’s progress. Each visit gave Rain a small glimmer of hope, though the uncertainty remained daunting.

She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a tender whisper. "Today, Aunt Melanie and Uncle Ben submitted Tim’s DNA sample to the lab. You know William... he’s so persistent about me taking a DNA test."

She kissed his hand gently, as though willing her love to reach him and pull him back to her. "So please, Alexander, wake up soon. I need you more than ever."

Many people, especially his family, had expressed their desire to visit, but Father Rock had firmly advised against it for the time being, believing Alexander needed a calm environment to recover. Rain, however, was beginning to reconsider.

Perhaps in a few more days, allowing loved ones to visit could help. Maybe Alexander, even in his unconscious state, would feel the support of so many waiting for his return.

It was late afternoon when William entered the room, holding a sealed envelope in his hand. His face was uncharacteristically serious as he approached her.

"I haven’t checked it yet, Sis," he said, extending the envelope to her. "I wanted you to see it first."

Now that we’ve confirmed he’s not related to you, I’m going to make sure he rots in prison. I’ve been itching to bury that man for years, but Dad held me back because he was still technically your father."

Rain felt her legs weaken, and she sank into a chair beside Alexander’s bed. She stared at the paper, her mind swimming with a mixture of relief, anger, and confusion.

William, undeterred, paced the room, his energy practically buzzing. "What about your mom? We should do a DNA test for her too, just to be thorough," he suggested, his eyes gleaming with his usual investigative enthusiasm.

Rain froze for a moment, her fingers tightening slightly around the paper in her hand. To be honest, she didn’t even know what her mother had looked like. Tim never kept photos of her, aside from a single grainy picture on her gravestone. Everything she knew about her mother had been filtered through Tim’s disdainful remarks.

Kaila Perez was her mother’s name. She was an orphan, or so Rain had been told, who had worked as a prostitute in her youth. Tim had met her in a bar where she was employed, a story Sylvia always recounted with thinly veiled disgust.

Her mother had died from complications during childbirth. Rain’s thoughts spiraled. If Kaila Perez was her mother, did that mean her father might have been one of her customers? The thought left an uncomfortable knot in her stomach.

She turned to William, who had stopped pacing and was now watching her intently, his expression softening. "Are you okay, Sis?" he asked gently.

Rain let out a shaky breath, trying to push down the wave of emotions threatening to overwhelm her. "I don’t even know what my mother looked like, William," she admitted quietly. "All I’ve ever known about her is from what Tim told me and we both know how unreliable that is."

"I know I sound like I’ve been watching too many dramas, but trust me, Sis. Something about Tim Clayton has always felt off. My hunches are never wrong. You know I topped the assessments in military intelligence during my batch, right? This is my specialty! Solving mysteries!"

Rain couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm, despite the gravity of the situation. His energy was infectious, and for the first time in days, she felt a flicker of levity.

"Alright," she agreed with a small chuckle. "But make sure to keep it discreet. We can’t let Tim catch wind of this."

"Don’t worry, Sis," William assured her, a confident grin on his face. "I know what I’m doing. Haven’t I already taken care of everything? Including dealing with Dina? Honestly, the nerve of that woman, trying to steal my sister-in-law’s face!"
