Chapter 300: An Accident

Chapter 300: An Accident

Alexander was in his office when he suddenly received a call from one of his men, who was discreetly guarding Rain.

"Boss, Mrs. Lancaster’s car had an accident. She was rushed to Clayton University Hospital along with Matt," his man reported urgently. "She’s in the operating room now, and her father is leading the operation."

The news made Alexander’s hand slip, dropping the cup of coffee he had been holding. Without a second thought, he bolted out of his office, leaving Dion to scramble after him in a panic.

The words "accident" and "operating room" echoed in his mind as his chest tightened with panic.

"Dion, have the car ready now!" he barked, his voice trembling with urgency as he stormed toward the elevator.

"Boss, what happened?!" Dion shouted, rushing after him.

As soon as Alexander reached the car, he climbed in, Dion right behind him. "Rain had an accident," Alexander managed to get out, his voice trembling. "She’s at Clayton University Hospital. Just drive!"

The car screeched out of the driveway, the tension inside palpable. Alexander leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, running a hand through his hair repeatedly. His mind was racing, imagining every worst-case scenario despite his desperate prayers to keep Rain safe.

"Boss, we’ll get there soon," Dion reassured him, though his own voice betrayed worry.

Alexander clenched his fists, his knuckles white. "I need answers, Dion. Now. Find out what happened, how it happened, and who’s responsible. I want them found."

"Yes, sir," Dion replied, pulling out his phone to issue instructions.

Alexander turned his gaze to the window, his heart pounding uncontrollably. He whispered under his breath, "Hold on, Rain. Please hold on."

Every second of the drive felt like an eternity. By the time they arrived at the hospital,

Alexander didn’t wait for the car to stop completely. He bolted out, heading straight for the operating room.

"Rain Lancaster. She was in an accident. Where is she?" he demanded, his voice sharp but cracking with emotion.

The nurse quickly scanned her records. "She’s still in surgery, Mr. Lancaster. Dr. Clayton is performing the operation."

Alexander froze for a moment, his mind processing the fact that Rain’s father was leading the operation. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he nodded curtly and headed toward the waiting area, pacing anxiously.

Dion soon joined him, phone in hand. "I’ve got men working on it, Boss. We’ll have the full report soon."

Alexander’s jaw was clenched as his eyes remained locked on the operating room doors. Every fiber of his being screamed for him to burst inside and see Rain for himself. He didn’t trust Tim, not as a father or as a doctor.

"I need eyes in that room, Dion," Alexander ordered sharply, his voice low and controlled despite the storm brewing inside him. "Find a way to have someone monitor the operation from inside. And call our team at Meta Doctors Hospital. Once Rain is stable, we’re transferring her there immediately."

Dion gave a quick nod, his phone already in hand as he stepped aside to make the necessary calls.

Matt arrived shortly, his clothes stained with blood. Alexander’s eyes widened at the sight. "How is Prosecutor Rain? She was bleeding, and they rushed her into the operating room!" Matt asked frantically, his voice unsteady.

Before Alexander could respond, nurses hurried over. "Sir, you need to come with us! We haven’t finished checking on you. A CT scan is necessary to rule out internal bleeding!" one of them insisted.

"She’s still in surgery, Matt," Alexander said firmly. "I’ll stay here and keep you updated on her condition. Please, go back and let them finish treating you."

Matt’s shoulders sagged, but his voice carried a sharp edge as he added, "Someone purposely hit us, Xander. I’m certain this accident was no coincidence."

Alexander’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening. "I’ve already got someone looking into it," he said, his tone icy. "For now, focus on getting yourself treated. As soon as Rain is stable, I’ll have both of you transferred to Meta Doctors Hospital."

"I’m sorry," Matt murmured, his voice heavy with guilt.

"Don’t be," Alexander replied firmly. "This isn’t your fault, Matt. I know how hard you’ve been working to keep my wife safe. Now, go and let the nurses treat you properly. We’ll find out who’s responsible for this, I promise."

Matt nodded reluctantly, allowing the nurses to assist him back for further examination, his steps slow but resigned.

Moments later, the sound of hurried footsteps pulled Alexander’s attention. Sanya and William appeared, their faces pale with worry.

"We came as soon as we heard," Sanya said, her voice trembling. She reached for Alexander’s arm, her gaze searching his for answers. "How is she?"

"She’s still in surgery," Alexander replied tightly. "Tim is leading it."

Sanya frowned. "Tim? Are you sure-"

"I don’t trust him," Alexander interrupted, his tone sharp. "That’s why Dion is handling it. I won’t leave Rain’s life in his hands alone."

William placed a steadying hand on Alexander’s shoulder. He exhaled deeply, his chest rising and falling with the effort to keep himself composed.

"Should we inform Aunt Melanie?" William asked cautiously.

Alexander shook his head. "Not yet. Rain wouldn’t want that. Let’s wait until the operation is over before involving anyone else."

After an agonizing minutes, the doors to the operating room finally opened, and Tim stepped out, removing his surgical mask. Alexander surged forward, his face etched with worry.

"Rain is stable," Tim began, his voice calm but tired. "She sustained some torn muscles and tissue damage in her body, which required surgery. Thankfully, there were no critical injuries. She was unconscious when she was brought in, but she should wake up soon."

Alexander’s shoulders loosened slightly at the news, though his tone remained firm. "I want her transferred to Meta Doctors Hospital immediately."

Tim gave him a measured look before nodding. "I understand. For now, we’ll move her to recovery and then to a private suite upstairs. Let’s wait for her to regain consciousness before transferring her, it’s safer that way."
