Chapter 287: Only Want Him
Rain truly thought Carla would back down, but she didn’t. The woman still approached them, her confidence unwavering, and even had the nerve to call out to Alexander.
"Xander?"
Alexander turned, visibly surprised. "Carla?"
"I went to your villa this morning to apologize to you and Rain, but Aunt Ava said you’d already left for work. Since I’ve bumped into you here, I’ll apologize now," Carla said, her tone soft and her expression regretful.
"I’m sorry for lying. Please believe me when I say I didn’t know it was Rain who saved you. Whatever I say now might sound like an excuse, but it won’t change the fact that I lied. I truly am sorry," she added, her voice trembling slightly with what appeared to be remorse.
Rain simply observed her in silence. To anyone else, Carla’s sincerity would have been convincing... but not to her. She had to admit, Carla was a remarkable actress.
"It’s good that you’ve admitted your mistake, Carla," Alexander said as he stood up, offering her a polite nod. "I hope you can move forward now."
"I will," Carla replied with a small smile. "I also hope we can still remain friends." She turned to Rain and added, "I’d like to have a good relationship with you too, Rain. I’m sorry for being insensitive before. I hope this doesn’t affect the bond between our families. My parents and the Lancasters have been close friends for as long as I can remember."
Alexander nodded again, his voice firm yet cordial. "Don’t worry about it, Carla. As long as you’re not doing anything against my wife or jeopardizing the relationship between our families, we’re fine. Rain and I will head off now."
Rain remained silent, letting Alexander pull her close as they walked away from Carla.
"What are you thinking?" Alexander asked curiously, finishing the last of her ice cream.
"Nothing, just that I really hope she won’t pull any stunts in the future. That woman is so into you, my husband..." Rain muttered, her tone laced with mild frustration.
Alexander chuckled, stopping in his tracks to cup her face gently. "Whatever stunts she tries in the future won’t work on me, and I hope they won’t work on you either. Communication is key in a relationship," he said, his tone firm but warm. "We need to talk to each other first before jumping to conclusions."
Rain nodded at his reminder, her expression softening.
"Let’s head back now and check on Father," she said after a moment.

Carla drove directly to her privately owned apartment in the Capital City. For the first time, she would be living on her own, away from her parents. It had been a long debate, but eventually, they agreed to let her have her independence.
While her parents gifted her the penthouse, she had no intention of staying there. Instead, she secretly purchased a luxurious apartment near Alexander’s penthouse. Even Renzo, her father’s trusted overseer, was unaware of this hidden move.
She needed a personal assistant she could trust, someone her parents couldn’t bribe or manipulate. The doorbell rang, and Carla opened it to let a man step inside.
"I brought Maria with me. You can trust her with everything," he informed her.
Carla nodded, her expression unreadable. "Get yourself settled in any available room you like," she instructed. Maria quickly disappeared into another part of the apartment, leaving Carla and the man alone.
"She already knows her job, so you don’t have to worry," the man added, strolling casually into her kitchen and helping himself to a cup of coffee. "And your parents won’t be able to get to her. Her brother is... in my care. She’ll do exactly what you need her to do."
"What are your plans now? You’ve failed to become part of the Lancaster family," he said coldly. "I know you have your own career and are living well, so I won’t push you to continue with the plan. Live your life however you want, as long as you don’t get in my way."
"How thoughtful of you!" Carla shot back sarcastically, her tone dripping with disdain. She picked up a stack of papers and handed them to him.
"She’s apparently part of GIS," Carla said sharply. "Not a permanent undercover agent, but her training is top-notch. And now Alexander is involved in the operation as well. You need to tread carefully, or you’ll find yourself sinking into the mud alongside the rest of the Obsidian Order. If that happens, don’t expect me to bail you out. Helping you would mean risking everything I’ve worked for."
She shook her head and pointed out. "It’s only a matter of time before the entire Obsidian Order falls..."
"I understand," he replied, his face dark. "I’ll be more careful. We’ll proceed with the abduction as soon as possible."
He turned to her, his voice low and menacing. "And don’t forget what you promised. I’ll get her out of your way for good, but you must uphold your end of the deal. Remember who you really are, Carla."
Carla’s expression twisted with fury, her teeth gritting as she hissed, "I know... and you don’t have to remind me."
"We could’ve ended this long ago, but you keep delaying things," he grunted, his tone laced with frustration. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out a small bottle and placed it firmly on the table. "Here. Take this, in case you’ve forgotten or thrown out the other bottles I gave you."
Carla glared at the bottle but said nothing, her jaw tightening as she tried to keep her composure. "Stop hesitating and think how-"
"Stop it already! You don’t need to keep reminding me about that incident I wasn’t involved!" Carla snapped, her voice rising as her patience frayed. Her eyes burned with fierce determination as she cut him off.
"I already told you I’ll handle it. Just make sure you get Rain out of Alexander’s life!" she demanded, her tone sharp. "I’m not doing this for you or anyone else. I’m doing it because I want Alexander back! I only want him in my life!"
