Chapter 276: Better Late Than Never
Once everyone returned to their villas, Rain asked Alexander to take a walk with her outside, drawn to the idea of strolling together under the moonlight. As they stepped out, Alyssa approached them.
"I just want to apologize to both of you," she said quietly, her gaze lowered. "For how harshly I acted earlier and for supporting Carla. I made a disrespectful mistake."
Alexander gave her a small nod. "Just be careful next time before jumping to conclusions."
Rain offered a gentle smile. "We understand, Alyssa. It’s easy to get caught up in things, especially when you trust someone. Don’t be too hard on yourself."
Alyssa looked relieved, nodding as she glanced between them. "Thank you... both of you."
As Alyssa walked back to their villa, Rain and Alexander continued their stroll under the moonlight.
After a few moments of silence, she took a breath and looked up at him. "So... how did you notice the mole?" Her cheeks flushed at the memory, and she gave a nervous laugh. She had an idea but still wanted to hear it from him.
Alexander smirked, drawing her closer. "I noticed it the night we made love when we were in that position," he said, his voice soft. "I had a better view of the back of your ear and recognized that familiar mole on your left ear."
He brushed a strand of hair from her face, his touch tender. "Thank you, Rain. For saving me, and for staying by my side."
Rain felt a swell of emotion, a mix of relief and happiness. "I’m just glad I could be here," she whispered. Alexander pulled her towards the open pavilion and they sat on the bench, staring at the lotus pond.
"The renovations will soon be finished, and you’ll see how perfect and beautiful this place will be, even more than Sebastian’s," he hummed, a small grin playing on his lips. Rain chuckled softly.
She rested her head on his shoulder and then hummed, "Remember when I went to Palan Island with Clifford?" she began, her voice low and thoughtful. She decided it was time to tell Alexander everything about her research laboratory.
"I have a research laboratory there. It’s called Elysium Biotech Institute," she stated, her voice steady.
"What? That research facility is yours?" Alexander burst out, his surprise evident. Rain shifted slightly to look at him more closely. "You’ve heard of it?"
"Doctor Lambert told me to check that facility," Alexander explained. "He mentioned they have a similar case to my father’s under study and trial..." His voice trailed off, realization dawning on him.
She nodded slowly, her gaze soft. "Indeed, I’ve wanted to tell you about it before, but I hesitated after seeing how devastated you were when you found out there was no success in the research facility in Lamey. I thought it would be better to tell you once there was some good news. But now, I feel like you and William should know about it, regardless of the outcome."
She paused, her mind racing with the weight of what she had to share. "Ivan is already working closely with a test patient, but the latest report I received said she’s still unconscious," Rain continued, her voice tinged with concern.
She started telling everything to Alexander like how that research facilities started and how she had Clifford and Ivan in building it where it was now. "Ivan already had father’s medical condition... I just hope that he’ll be able to control it if we can’t still yet find a cure for it," she commented.
"You’ve been doing a lot for us Rain and I couldn’t believe how fortunate I am to have the best woman in the world!" Alexander praised as he pulled and hugged her lovingly in his arms.
"Stop it... I have flaws and definitely not perfect," she corrected with a chuckle.
"Whatever those flaws you’re saying... It doesn’t matter since I love all of you! I love everything about you, the good and the bad," Alexander commented.

Meanwhile, in his bedroom, Rock gazed at the beautiful painting of his late wife, Alexa, a soft hum escaping his lips. "Are you happy now, Alexa?" he murmured. "I hope you can see our children from wherever you are. They’re both married now... hopefully, they’ll build their own families just like we did. But I still can’t forgive you for leaving me so soon."
He took a deep breath, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips as he added, "Honestly, I’m ready to see you again, knowing our sons have finally found good partners including Ben, of course. Remember how you always nagged him to leave my side, to go out, make friends, and maybe even find a girlfriend?"
Rock chuckled at the memory. "It may have taken him a while, but he finally found someone he could share his life with. Better late than never, right?"
His smile faded, replaced by a somber expression. "Would it be too selfish of me to want a little more time? Just to hold our future grandchildren... to be here a little longer?" He sighed, the weight of his wish settling heavy on his heart.
Suddenly, a sharp, searing pain struck his head. Rock clutched at his temples, gritting his teeth as he reached for his medicine. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he fumbled with the bottle, swallowing a pill hastily. But the pain intensified, forcing him to stumble toward the sink, where he heaved, his breaths ragged.
"Oh God," he groaned, bracing himself against the counter, struggling to regain his strength.
Rock clutched the edge of the sink, his knuckles white as the world around him began to blur. The pain hammered through his skull, and his vision darkened around the edges. He gasped, struggling to stay upright, but his legs felt as if they’d turned to lead.
His fingers slipped from the sink, and he staggered back, his body swaying as his strength gave way. He managed a faint whisper, "Alexa..." before his knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor, his body going limp.
