Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire
Chapter 271: More Than You Know

Chapter 271: More Than You Know

Alyssa’s hands trembled as she walked away from her cousin. She could still feel the weight of Alexander’s harsh words echoing in her mind, and the fear of him truly cutting ties with her left her shaken.

"What on earth did Carla say to him?" she whispered to herself, her mind racing. She had genuinely thought Carla wanted to talk to Alexander for closure, something private she couldn’t share in public. But now, seeing how dark and furious Alexander had looked, she began to wonder if Carla had other intentions.

As she walked, Alyssa noticed Rain and Sanya in her path. Embarrassed, she averted her gaze and pretended not to see them, her face flushed with shame. In that moment, she made a silent vow: this would be the last time she’d involve herself in anything between Carla and Alexander. She couldn’t risk her family’s trust again, not after Alexander’s warning.

She found Carla slumped on the ground, crying. "Carla, come on. I’ll escort you to Cartier Villa," Alyssa offered gently, helping Carla to her feet and guiding her to a motor cart.

As she helped her, Alyssa’s mind wandered. Carla hadn’t mentioned she’d be returning, not even during their last phone call. Alyssa had mentioned today’s family celebration for William and Uncle Ben at the Sinclair Vineyard and Winery.

A thought crept into her mind: ’Did Carla come back just to see Alexander and make it look accidental?’ But she dismissed the idea, convincing herself it was probably just a coincidence.

"I’ll have Mario bring your car to Cartier Villa," she added as they rode. Things were too complicated at the moment.

The Cartier Villa, inside the Sinclair Winery and Vineyard, had been a gift from Uncle Rock to Uncle Arlan and Aunt Summer. As she drove, Alyssa thought about Alexander’s anger earlier. Knowing her cousin, he’d likely find a way to make sure Carla was kept at a distance from Rain.

"What exactly happened?" Alyssa asked, guiding Carla into the villa. Their family had always been close with the Cartiers, but she could feel that bond beginning to fray with the complications between Alexander and Carla.

"I’m sorry, Alyssa. I thought I could let him go, but I messed up. Alexander hates me now. I don’t understand what Rain has done to make him this smitten," Carla sobbed, and Alyssa did her best to comfort her.

"You have to let him go, Carla. My cousin knows what he’s doing. He’s even mad at me now and threatened to cut ties if I ever get involved like this again," she admitted gently, hinting that she couldn’t keep helping Carla in her pursuit. Alexander was right; it would be wrong to interfere, especially now that he was married.

"I helped you, thinking you just wanted a final conversation for closure... but, really, you and Alexander had that closure five years ago. It’s not like he ever promised he’d wait for you."

Carla suddenly pushed Alyssa away, her face darkening as she glared. "Then why did you keep sending me those gifts in his name? Don’t you see how that gave me hope he was waiting?"

Alyssa bit her lip, realizing her mistake. "I’m sorry. That was my fault... At the time, he was single, so I thought-"

"Just leave me, Alyssa. I need to be alone!" Carla snapped, turning away. Alyssa nodded, murmuring, "I really am sorry, Carla," she murmured before getting up to leave Carla alone.

She felt so bad. She really thought Carla and Alexander were meant for each other and were a perfect match. But then the future was hard to predict and there was nothing she could do anymore for it since it was her cousin’s life.

Alexander led his father to a private spot, concern etched on his face. "What happened, Son?" his father asked, noticing the tension.

"I’ve decided to build a fence around Cartier Villa and separate it from Sinclair property," Alexander said, voice steady. "Carla can’t stay so close to Rain. I’m not asking for permission, Dad... just letting you know. I’ll speak to Uncle Arlan myself about this."

Rock sighed deeply, understanding the gravity of his son’s decision. "I understand, Son. Do what you think is best."

"Thanks, Dad," Alexander replied, appreciative of his father’s support. He looked over and spotted Rain walking toward him with Sanya.

"Where have you been?" he asked, a hint of worry in his tone.

"Oh, Sanya and I were just roaming around. The party’s winding down, and I thought we should make sure Aunt Melanie and Uncle Ben get settled in their private villa," Rain said, her smile easing his tension.

Alexander took her hand, reassured. "Good idea. Let’s do that and give them their privacy."

Everyone gathered at the long table for a closing toast. Most of the guests had already left, and as planned Rain and Alexander took the opportunity to escort Aunt Melanie and Uncle Ben to their private villa inside the Sinclair Vineyard and Winery.

"Enjoy the honeymoon!" Rain teased her aunt with a smile. "And don’t worry, there’s a medical team stationed nearby in case you need anything. They’ll handle any health concerns, especially if there’s any bleeding."

Aunt Melanie’s face flushed, and Rain chuckled, finding her reaction endearing. "Aunt Melanie, you’re too cute," she teased gently.

Rain had ensured that her aunt and Uncle Ben attended health sessions in the previous days, so they were well-informed about how to keep Aunt Melanie’s health from being compromised.

She felt a little sorry for Uncle Ben, knowing the restrictions they’d been given. Still, the medical team reassured them that they’d be ready to respond at a moment’s notice if needed.

"Oh, hush, dear!" Melanie laughed, trying to wave off her embarrassment but unable to hide her smile. Rain squeezed her aunt’s hand warmly, cherishing the moment.

Alexander smiled, too, enjoying the warmth shared between them. "Let’s get you both settled," he said, gesturing inside the villa.

After making sure Aunt Melanie and Uncle Ben were settled, Rain and Alexander decided to walk back to the main villa instead of taking a motor cart. Midway, Rain grinned and asked, "Will you give me a piggyback ride?"

"Of course!" Alexander replied instantly. He knelt down, and she hopped onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck while he held her legs securely.

"This is perfect," she murmured, resting her face against his neck. Feeling playful, she nuzzled into him, planting soft kisses and giving gentle nibbles that made Alexander growl in response. She chuckled when his pace suddenly picked up. "Are we in a hurry?" she teased.

"It’s entirely your fault!" he replied, voice thick with affection. "Now I can’t wait to get us some privacy!"

Rain laughed and continued leaving a trail of kisses along his neck. "I love you so much," she whispered, her voice tender.

Alexander smiled, his heart swelling. "And I love you more than you know."
