Chapter 978: Chapter 826: I Will Personally Mentor This Doctor
As the Department Director, Yang Ping found it necessary to show concern for new staff, so he took time out of his schedule to talk to Xia Shu and asked if he was adapting well to the work environment at Sanbo Hospital.
Xia Shu believed he adapted very well and confidently said, "Professor, regarding the three things for newbies you mentioned, first, sending out red packets in the group, I sent quite a few and everyone was very satisfied. Second, drawing the human anatomy diagram, I can finish that very soon and will trouble you, Professor, to see if it’s acceptable. Third, inviting the Head Nurse for Heytea, I did that too, but she’s still not satisfied, so I have to continue inviting."
Yang Ping was utterly baffled by his response, "Did Song Zimo tell you about these three things?"
Gratefully, Xia Shu said, "It wasn’t Dr. Song who said it. Before Dr. Song could tell me, everyone else did, and they were very enthusiastic. They also urged me to complete these three tasks as soon as possible."
"Everyone told you? Oh---Xia Shu, you’re still single, right?" Yang Ping, sensing something amiss, asked.
Xia Shu nodded, "When I was at Fuwai, I had no time for dating, so---I’m ashamed to say."
Yang Ping instantly understood what was going on and coughed a few times, saying, "I see, I’ll make time to review that anatomy diagram, and as for treating the Head Nurse to Heytea, you must do a good job of that. The Head Nurse works hard and looks after everyone attentively, especially the newly arrived doctors like you, so you must put in effort to frequently invite her for Heytea."
"Right, I’m inviting her every day now, just not sure how long it will take until the Head Nurse is satisfied," Xia Shu expressed his dilemma.
Yang Ping said seriously, "Actually, this task is to train your patience, otherwise, why would such a strange task be set up? So, don’t be hasty, you must be patient, insisting on inviting her every day, persistence is what matters."
Xia Shu earnestly replied, "I understand!"
"Many people reflect on the Head Nurse being too strict, do you feel the same?" Yang Ping inquired.
After thinking for a moment, Xia Shu responded, "No, she’s very lively and approachable."
"Xia Shu, in a few days our hospital will be participating in a charity event outside, and each department is to send one doctor and one nurse. You’re new here and should familiarize yourself with this environment. I’ve decided to send you and the Head Nurse together, how does that sound?"
"I will follow the arrangements," Xia Shu had no objections.
Later, Yang Ping tasked Xia Shu with making use of the experimental pigs for some heart surgery after a recent animal experiment involving 20 experimental pigs, ensuring not to waste these pigs.
Finally, Yang Ping instructed Xia Shu to go out for the charity event, to learn how to get along with colleagues, and to take good care of them.
Xia Shu assured, "Professor, rest assured, I’ll take good care of my colleagues."
After Xia Shu left, Yang Ping immediately called Song Zimo, "Change the list for the charity event, send Xia Shu and Head Nurse Cai."
Song Zimo was puzzled as to why the Professor suddenly proposed changing the list—the list had already been submitted. How could the Head Nurse have the time to go?
"Change it even if it has been reported?"
"Professor, what’s the matter?"
"It’s rare that Xia Shu is single, and the Head Nurse is so dedicated to the department. We can’t always keep her single, right?"
"Hahaha---okay, okay!"
Song Zimo promptly carried out the instructions, rushing to the administrative office to find the clerk to change the list.
Xia Shu was in high spirits, feeling affirmed by the Professor and grateful for the many opportunities given. This truly was a great place.
"Dr. Xia, did you forget to order food on your phone?" the Head Nurse asked Xia Shu upon noticing him.
Xia Shu slapped his forehead, too busy with surgery to remember to order food.
"No worries, I’ve ordered for you. If you often forget, I can order for you from now on," offered the Head Nurse kindly.
"Thank you, Head Nurse. How about we have Heytea after work?"
Basking in the Head Nurse’s kindness, Xia Shu felt refreshed.
"Sure!"
"Why is there a button missing from your white gown?"
"I don’t know, it must have fallen off."
"You, go and change, and give this one to me. I’ll fix a button on it for you. Professor Zhang would scold you if he saw it."
"Thank you, Head Nurse."
Doctors and nurses in the hallway covered their mouths, wanting to laugh but not daring to.
---
The experiment with 20 pigs was actually considered a large scale, and the staff from Nandu Medical University Animal Department were overwhelmingly busy.
The remodeled animal experimental building had an astonishing capacity for experiments, now allowing for many surgeries to take place simultaneously rather than one at a time.
However, to ensure there wouldn’t be any sample bias, Yang Ping decided to conduct the surgeries on one pig at a time, entrusting Song Zimo to be the Chief Surgeon for each surgery and to control the anesthesia time for each pig as consistently as possible.
By doing so, both the quality of surgery and anesthesia time would be closely matched, avoiding significant sample deviation.
The young doctors in the department were thrilled, especially the Intern Doctors, Standardized Training Students, and Graduate Students. Once the experiments on the 20 pigs were done, they would be perfect material for them to practice on.
With so many pigs, they were sure to get a chance to be the Chief Surgeon; the thought of leading a surgery filled them with a sense of achievement.
They began planning which surgeries they would lead; many wanted to perform Muscle Transplant Surgery, taking muscle from the left side and transplanting it to the right and vice versa.
Though Muscle Transplant Surgery wasn’t major, it was still an Organ Transplant Surgery.
Normally, they wouldn’t even get the chance to stitch, and now they could actually play the role of Chief Surgeon in an organ transplant surgery. Who wouldn’t be ecstatic?
