Chapter 786: Chapter 704: Last-minute Effort
Suspend Ivan’s surgery and prepare for an investigation.
In the face of such a situation, Yang Ping called together his colleagues to discuss the next steps.
In democratic departments, whenever an issue arises, everyone naturally needs to come together to discuss a solution. Ivan, August, and Robert also sat and listened.
Upon hearing this news, Song Zimo was furious:
"The management for foreign doctors flying in for surgeries is extremely unclear. Usually, it’s the hospital managing the risks; why suddenly stop our surgery now? This isn’t exclusive to our hospital and we haven’t messed up anything."
Flying doctors, whether domestic or international, is a gray area in our country, bordering on legality. The hospitals where the surgeons "fly" to perform surgeries are often not their designated practicing location. By strict medical regulations, there are suspicions of illegal medical practices, but everyone tacitly accepts this situation.
Medical resources in our country are unfairly distributed. Not every patient can seek treatment in developed areas, so doctors working cross-regionally help alleviate this imbalance to a certain extent.
"Did it happen because of the patient trouble that happened during Ivan’s consultation some time ago?" Little Five asked.
Zhang Lin stroked his chin: "It’s highly probable. I heard there were numerous complaints. The complainers must be the ones causing the fuss. Why would others have time to complain? These people are jealous because they can’t have what they want, so they don’t want others to have it either."
"So, how about the second phase of the surgery?" Xu Zhiliang was quite worried, as the patient’s surgery was carried out in stages, and they had just finished phase one.
"No surgery can stump Professor Yang. He just doesn’t like performing plastic surgeries, not that he can’t do them. Any problem related to surgeries is not a problem in his eyes." Song Zimo muttered.
Yang Ping was somewhat surprised. This kind of flattery was quite comfortable, yet he wondered how this young man knew he was capable of executing plastic surgeries without having seen him do it before.
However, what Song Zimo said was correct: how could surgery-related problems stump Professor Yang?
"Are you suggesting that the professor perform the surgery himself?" Xu Zhiliang asked.
Song Zimo nodded: "The original plan was to have the professor operate when the patients were transferred here, but Dr. Ivan’s sudden appearance changed his mind. The professor dislikes plastic surgery the most."
Xu Zhiliang thought about it and it seemed to be true. When Teacher Sun was transferred from the burn department, the professor intended to perform the surgery using a new skin expansion technology for grafting.
"The next surgeries --scalp transplantation, eyebrow and eyelash transplantation, reshaping of the auricle and nostril, I should be able to handle them with no problems," Yang Ping casually said.
Ivan didn’t know what everyone was saying. August translated for him and then said, "Don’t worry, the professor is ready to personally perform the follow-up surgeries himself."
Personally perform the surgeries?
Is he capable?
If it’s about scalp transplantation and eyebrow transplantation, with the aid of the ex vivo skin expansion technology, there won’t be any major problems. It’s just skin grafting, which is simple.
Eyelash transplantation isn’t a problem either, but the most difficult part is the formation of ear and nostril, which even seasoned plastic surgeons can’t perfect, let alone doctors from other specialties.
Ivan was very dissatisfied with this arrangement. Having others proceed would lower the surgery quality, something he could never tolerate.
"Oh no, we can’t do that. Although the patient is already in a good condition by ordinary standards, our goal is to pursue perfection, and not merely settle for being better than before. Our comparison is against a normal person. We want to ensure there is no difference between the two."
Ivan understood that Yang Ping was unrivaled in orthopedic surgeries and demonstrated extreme proficiency in other surgical fields as well. However, this is the field of plastic surgery, his own domain, nobody could perform better than him.
August had also quietly revealed to him what exactly had happened.
"Can we have Teacher Sun transferred to any other country you deem convenient. I’ll take care over the rest. I don’t need a medical license to practice in countries outside of Russia, and I will take care of all the expenses, alright?" Ivan insisted on performing the surgery himself.
This was his patient, and he needed to be responsible till the end, without reducing the quality of the operation.
"Dr. Ivan, I understand your concerns, but rest assured. If you have time, you can share some of the key points of plastic surgery with me. Just because I don’t want to perform it, doesn’t mean I can’t. Trust me, I will not compromise the patient’s plastic surgery outcome. And remember, I can also shape a face in one go." Yang Ping comforted Ivan, knowing of his obsession.
Hearing this, Ivan’s firm resistance was somewhat shaken.
Shaping a face in one go may sound simple, but it tests a plastic surgeon’s skills.
Just by looking at the face, one must be able to cut out a complete face, then attach it without adding too much or too little. It’s extremely difficult, especially the cuts around the eyes, nose, and lips are extremely hard to handle.
It’s like piling up ten eggs in a row, one on top of another, without toppling. It may sound simple but there are few in the world who can actually do it.
"Plastic surgery is very complicated. Apart from the surgery itself, it also involves aesthetics. I believe in your surgical talent, but I can’t believe you can achieve the effects I can." Ivan spoke frankly.
"Dr. Ivan, rest assured. If you’re willing, you can share your experience in plastic surgery with me. I can assure you that I will be proficient in the follow-up surgeries, just like how I can cut out that face in one go." Yang Ping confidently replied.
Considering that the patient belonged to Yang Ping and he was just a guest, Ivan refrained from insisting further. Even if he was suffering inside, he had to endure.
His principle was to be responsible for his patients from beginning to end. Even if other doctors performed a minor part of the surgery midway, it would cause him immense distress.
"Fine, I accept. I have a draft of a book on my laptop. It contains my plastic surgery experience. I will ask someone to fetch it as a gift for you, to thank you for providing me with the magical ex vivo skin expansion technology." Ivan had to accept Yang Ping’s proposal.
Seeing that Ivan relented, Yang Ping said: "Thank you. Since it’s still a draft, I will delete it after I finished reading, in respect of your copyrights."
Even though Yang Ping could access any medical books in the system library, unpublished drafts were not available.
"You can keep the draft. The book will be publicly published later, but I don’t think it’s the right time now."
"Robert, why are you so quiet today?"
Song Zimo suddenly noticed that the normally lively Robert hadn’t said a word all day.
Robert furrowed his brows and thought for a while: "Professor, can I say that you are cramming at the last minute?"
Professor Yang had never performed a plastic surgery before and now he was stepping in at the last minute, also cramming Ivan’s plastic surgery techniques. This put Robert in a predicament; he knew how talented Professor Yang was and how easily he transitioned between different types of surgeries. But this was a plastic surgery, and the gap seemed a little broad—fearing it would be a hard nut to crack.
But Robert firmly believed that Professor Yang could complete the surgery without compromising the effects of plastic surgery because in Robert’s eyes, Yang Ping never did anything he wasn’t confident about. All the seemingly impossible surgeries were always successfully completed.
So Robert had been internally conflicted for a while, wondering where Professor Yang drew his confidence from.
"Cramming at the last minute doesn’t bode well for the success of the exam and the future!"
