Chapter 691: Chapter 616: The Almighty Pathology Tissue Section
PS: I’ve been busy these past few days and haven’t revised the draft, so I’ll just post it as is. The draft is readable anyway, although it’s a bit rough. My apologies!
Why is the necrosis most obvious in his right hand and right hip?
Everyone was pondering this question,
He’s right-handed, not left-handed.
The right hand and the right hip are connected, but while the hand is exposed, the hip is generally covered by pants. They shouldn’t be on the same exposure level.
There’s a possibility that this could happen when the pathogen is held in the right hand and then put in the pocket of the right-hand side pants. This way, the right hand and the right hip are exposed on the same level.
Could it be?
An answer emerged in Yang Ping’s mind.
"Have the necrotic tissues been sampled for pathology tests?"
Yang Ping thinks that pathology is a magical method. Although these cells have necrotised, under a microscope, one can see exactly how they died.
"We did take pathology samples, but the results are not out yet. Director Guan is away in a meeting and will only be back tomorrow. The pathologist is inexperienced, uncertain, and dare not issue a report."
Director Tan is very experienced. Taking pathology samples is a mandatory procedure. How could he make such a basic mistake?
However, as orthopedic surgeons, they don’t know how to interpret pathology slides. Otherwise, Director Tan would have personally gone to the pathology department to examine the pathology slides.
"Shall we go and see?"
Yang Ping suggested to Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang. After all, the surgery was over and they had plenty of time.
The two generals nodded.
"How about continuing the discussion while we go and check out the pathology department?"
Yang Ping had some ideas, but was currently unsure. So, he decided to go examine the pathology slides. If he could confirm his deductions, then nothing could go wrong.
"You think?" Song Zimo asked.
Yang Ping made a "shush" gesture, indicating everyone to keep quiet.
Xu Zhiliang seemed to understand something and brightened up.
"I’m not sure yet. Let’s go to the pathology department first and then come back here to verify," Yang Ping said to the two of them.
"You guys go and check it out," Professor Zhang allowed.
Yang Ping, Song Zimo, and Xu Zhiliang took a momentary leave. The pathology department was in another building, which housed all the auxiliary departments like radiology, pathology, laboratory, ECG, etc.
The trio didn’t waste time and rushed off to the pathology department.
Doctors have a natural interest in unusual diseases. The pathology department does not work night shifts and was about to close for the day.
Dr. Wen, the last one to leave, was preparing to switch off the lights and lock the door when he saw the trio rushing over.
Caught off guard, Dr. Wen blocked the entrance. On closer inspection, he said, "Professor Yang? Dr. Song? Dr. Xu?"
"What brings you here?" Dr. Wen was quite surprised.
"Sorry to keep you from leaving work. We want to see a patient’s pathology slides?" Yang Ping hurriedly said, feeling slightly awkward about delaying Dr. Wen’s departure.
"Oh!"
Right away, Dr. Wen turned on the lights and welcomed the giants of Sanbo Hospital into his office.
Hearing someone wanted to see the patient’s pathology slides, Dr. Wen also became interested. He usually enjoyed fiddling with the pathology slides alone.
Pathology is a quiet and undervalued department. There’s no money and it’s lonely. Pathologists are even more lonesome, spending all day looking at tissue sections under the microscope.
"Whose patient is it?" Dr. Wen turned on all the lights.
"Orthopedic trauma, Zhang Tiejun!" Yang Ping reported the name.
Xu Zhiliang handed over a small note with the name and hospital number written on it.
"Zhang Tiejun?"
Dr. Wen’s interest was piqued. He promptly picked out Zhang Tiejun’s case slides from the storage box and carefully placed them under the microscope.
"Professor Yang, Director Guan said that not only can you read pathology slides, but your skill level is also very high. I didn’t believe it. In China, I’ve never encountered a surgeon who reads pathology slides. You’re here for this patient. What does this slide show?"
Dr. Wen sat down confidently, like a examiner, waiting to see Yang Ping’s response.
He had already identified the case but was waiting for Director Guan’s return the next day to issue the report. The case was so rare that he had to wait for the director’s signature before he could release it.
"Have a look?"
Yang Ping asked.
Dr. Wen pointed to the slide: "Have a look?"
It was like the prelude to a street brawl: "Show me your moves."
If they wanted to look, then why not. The system space included countless slides which weren’t of any value. They had looked at so many already, this was basic knowledge.
Dr. Wen sat cross-legged on one side. He had been working for so long, yet he had never had this much fun.
"Old Wen, how about we make a bet?" Xu Zhiliang put his arm around him.
Song Zimo joined in from the other side: "Yes! Do you already have an idea?"
"Bet what? I tell you, for this case slide, if Professor Yang can diagnose it, I will run around the hospital three times bare-chested?"
"Why don’t you say naked? Are you unsure?"
Naked?
Dr. Wen was a little scared. Professor Yang’s reputation in Sanbo Hospital was godlike. If he really could diagnose it, would he still have any dignity left?
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his own diagnosis, but rather that he was worried about Dr. Yang. The man was somewhat unfathomable, too godly!
"Oh, going bare-chested is already my limit, let’s leave it at that."
"Fine!"
"And if I lose?"
