The technique that uses digital human technology + virtual reality technology + tactile feedback simulation technology to establish simulated surgery technologies has been realized at Indiana University School of Medicine in the United States. They have already applied this technology in neurosurgery, building virtual operating rooms that allow neurosurgeons to replicate a patient’s cranial anatomy and functions using digital technology before performing complex surgeries on parts of the brain stem. Neurosurgeons can then perform training surgeries in a realistic immersive environment to rehearse the forthcoming procedures. However, this technology currently can only build parts of the human body, like the head, and cannot yet create an entire digital physiological human. The heads constructed with this technology not only simulate anatomy but can also simulate various physiological functions such as bleeding.
