Chapter 1148: Chapter 914: Double Barrel Approach
The next afternoon, the surgery in the general department was finished after five o’clock because Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang’s surgery was especially fast.During their time abroad, the number of surgeries that had piled up in the department was overwhelming, necessitating that Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang hurry to catch up.
Once Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang officially returned, Zhang Lin and Little Five were demoted back to more junior positions—a change they found highly uncomfortable. But, they were self-aware enough to realize that compared to Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang, they truly were just junior doctors. The gap was significant; their surgical skills were all taught by Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang by hand.
In these special days, Yang Ping had trusted them to independently perform main surgeries, which they were especially grateful for.
However, these two brothers were now planning to venture out and assist in surgeries at other locations, such as at Liquan Hospital. Yang Ping hardly had time to go there, only managing to visit once a week to supervise a surgery. The main responsibility fell on Su Nanchen, who also had to commute back and forth, which was very tiring. Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang used to go often, but as the number of surgeries in the department increased, their visits had significantly decreased.
The brothers pondered whether they could ask Yang Ping if they could help share some of the surgical load at Liquan Hospital.
This would not only accumulate experience as chief surgeons but also increase their extra income. Little Five and Zhang Lin were aware of the inside story—going there, a single surgery could earn at least ten thousand.
Liang Fatty often went there to supervise anesthesia, and he was now making a fortune, enough to afford a flight attendant as a girlfriend.
Xu Zhiliang’s prior vehicle was an electric car; recently, he bought a Land Rover, while Zhang Lin and Little Five were anxious and wanted to try their abilities there as well.
"Come in, what’s up? Always lurking outside my door?" Every time he opened the door, Little Five and Zhang Lin were pacing back and forth outside his office.
Little Five said with a red face, "That---that---Professor, we need your help with something."
Zhang Lin stood behind and did not speak.
"Come in and talk!" Yang Ping invited them into his office.
Sneaking around wasn’t their style; had these brothers gotten into some trouble?
Caught by the Medical Services Office playing video games? No, they had quit gaming long ago—Professor Zhang Zongshun had complained several times about not being able to find partners for his team. Now he could only train those old doctors at the outpatient clinic, but unfortunately, their skills were poor as they were new to the field.
"What’s the matter, sneaking around like this?" Yang Ping asked.
"You tell him!"
"No, you tell him!"
Neither Zhang Lin nor Little Five dared to speak, pushing it off on each other. In the end, Little Five spoke:
"Professor, the thing is---you see---as far as we know, Liquan Hospital is currently very busy, Dr. Su is overwhelmed, Dr. Song and Dr. Xu are spread too thin, and their own people are not yet trained. We were wondering if we could make use of our spare time to help out, easing some of the pressure, making things a bit easier for Dr. Su, who, we hear, also has research projects weighing on him."
"Professor, we assure you, it won’t delay the regular work of our department. We can help there anytime, available 24 hours a day,"
Zhang Lin said immediately.
So this was the mysterious business the brothers were about, though Yang Ping had also been contemplating this. After observing the surgeries of Little Five and Zhang Lin during this period, although they were slower, the quality of their work was reliable; it was time for them to help share the surgical load at Liquan Hospital, which would provide them with more practice opportunities and financial benefits.
Little Five was somewhat better off; his wife was wealthy. Zhang Lin and his wife faced significant economic strain, mortgaging their home and car, and they had just had two children. They indeed needed money.
Yang Ping wasn’t speaking, so Little Five and Zhang Lin thought he disagreed, disliking their inadequate skills.
Little Five said with a red face:"Professor, we will continue to strive, and once our skills meet the standard, please do remember to let us also share some surgeries."
"Yes, we’ll keep pushing ourselves," Zhang Lin also said, somewhat annoyed at himself for lacking skills.
"You two would go together each time, wouldn’t you?" Yang Ping finally spoke.
Little Five and Zhang Lin, who were prepared to leave, nodded immediately upon hearing this.
Definitely, without going together, they would only have fifty percent of the chief surgeon’s skills, which wouldn’t suffice for performing surgeries.
"You can go, but each time you both operate, let me clarify—Old Cheng can only pay one commission per surgery. You two will have to split it in half, how about that?" Yang Ping said.
Little Five and Zhang Lin left agreeing, their hearts throbbing with excitement. Splitting between the two, each operation would earn them at least five thousand. On Saturdays and Sundays, by pushing hard, they could perform twelve surgeries, which meant at least sixty thousand each.
"Aren’t you two supposed to be taking care of your kids on weekends? Do you have time to go?" Yang Ping was curious, especially about Zhang Lin’s two children.
"No problem; my wife will take care of that. Don’t worry, Professor, it won’t be a problem at all," Zhang Lin hastily said.
"Alright then, I’ll talk to Boss Cheng later. You two start this Saturday. Make some time earlier to meet with Old Cheng and coordinate. Nothing else, right?" Yang Ping was busy with his experiments.
"No, Professor, we’ll go over tonight to coordinate," Little Five and Zhang Lin said excitedly, somewhat incoherently.
As Little Five and Zhang Lin left Yang Ping’s office, they immediately embraced, celebrating the new journey that lay ahead in their lives.
The nurse who saw the two embrace found it odd: "Hey, your uncle has been looking for you."
It was only then that they had a moment to spare. Their uncle, along with their aunt, had come to the Surgical Research Institute for surgery. Little Five walked her through the outpatient surgery process, signed the informed consent form, and wrote up a simple outpatient medical record. Though she was a close friend, the basic procedures still had to be followed.
