Chapter 1102: Chapter 967: A Pleasant Afternoon Chapter 1102: Chapter 967: A Pleasant Afternoon “`

“Did you hear about Xiong Mo Moling leading the Soul Alliance army to the foot of the Soul Hall staircase and accusing the Mu Clan of harboring a criminal?” In the teahouse, a thin man in his thirties whispered to a few others who were chatting over tea.

“Who wouldn’t know about such a commotion? I was in the Outer City at the time and saw that soul pet as big as a mountain peak. At first, I had no idea what it was, until an Old Soul Pet Master told me that it was Lord Xiong Mo’s soul pet, the Taie Giant!” the tea-drinking man replied.

“Exactly, I was startled at the time. To think that such a massive soul pet exists in this world–it was like a titan had come to life. I even heard from someone inside the inner city that the City Forest, business district, and the wealthy areas became a desert under the protection of the barrier. If you had seen it with your own eyes, you’d have been so scared you couldn’t stand straight.”

The tea-drinkers were all abuzz. For them, discussing such significant events, partly heard through the grapevine and partly witnessed, made for a very pleasant afternoon.

“However, it was eventually defeated, and I personally saw the Taie Giant fall,” a youth living in the inner city said.

At that, everyone turned their attention to the youth. The thin man who started the topic widened his eyes and asked, “Even a soul pet of that level can be defeated?”

“Of course! The inner city has been buzzing with the news. You really didn’t know? Xiong Mo Moling’s Taie Giant was defeated by a white nightmare demon belonging to a youth named Chu Fangchen from the Soul Hall. Didn’t you see the nine demonic swords hanging over the inner city when you were in the Outer City?” the youth asked, thoroughly absorbed in storytelling.

The crowd nodded eagerly. The appearance of the Heaven and Earth Demonic Sword was witnessed by almost half the city. Sword thousands of meters long hanging down–such a horrifying scene made the entire massive Wanxiang City tremble; no one could forget such a sight!

“I saw it.”

“I too saw it.”

The youth smiled and said, “Those nine demonic swords were released by that white nightmare demon. It’s said that three swords pierced right through the Taie Giant’s body, nailing it to the ground!”

As these words were spoken, everyone gasped in shock. The thought of such an overwhelmingly powerful Taie Giant being pinned to the ground was a spectacle so astonishing it left them all deeply shaken just by imagining it!

“So, Lord Xiong Mo really was defeated by that youth named Chu Fangchen.”

“Absolutely, the news has already spread throughout the inner city. I can’t believe you didn’t know, how out of touch! And after Xiong Mo’s defeat, the Three Great Palaces immediately launched an attack, and the people of the Soul Alliance, terrified by Xiong Mo’s major defeat, fled in a panic. Xiong Mo himself barely escaped to the Wanxiang Altar.”

“No way! Even someone as powerful as Xiong Mo had to flee…”

Conversations like these were common in the teahouses and alleys of Wanxiang City, especially after the significant commotion of yesterday–that shook the entire city. Naturally, once things calmed down, no one could resist inquiring about the big event.

Given Wanxiang City’s vast size, rumors in different city sectors could vary, mainly because some people tended to exaggerate or boast blindly. However, the truth of the events stood firm, with at least the fact of Xiong Mo Moling’s embarrassed escape known to all.

And Mo Ling, while hiding in the Wanxiang Altar after his disgraceful escape, realized upon hearing the Three Great Palaces’ laughter that they never intended to wage war–they were just there to mock them. Startled as a frightened bird, Mo Ling’s fury was such that he nearly wanted to rush back to fight.

However, the Taie Giant was in a critical state, and he dared not waste a second there, so he chose to flee back to the Wanxiang Altar instead.

It seems, for some time to come, Mo Ling’s life will be quite miserable.

As for Chu Mu, who made a name for himself in Wanxiang City, he spent most afternoons leisurely sitting in the repaired courtyard, sipping tea, reading books, and occasionally, when respectfully visited by some elders, he would invite them to sit down and discuss things he found perplexing in books he’d read.

This left the elders from the Three Great Palaces both admiring and lamenting that such a majestic and strong youth remained so humble and eager to learn–it was truly rare and praiseworthy. They resolved to use him as an example to educate their own children, encouraging them to learn from Chu Fangchen.

Chu Mu’s extensive knowledge of soul pets, he owed to Fox Elder, who used to prattle on beside him every day. Now that Fox Elder had mysteriously disappeared, Chu Mu had to diligently study on his own and unashamedly ask for advice.

Of course, Chu Mu wasn’t really idle. He realized he’d been a bit too high-profile in Wanxiang City.

There were people in Wanxiang City stronger than him; being too conspicuous wouldn’t end well. So, Chu Mu felt it was time to vanish for a while, at least until he could raise his strength to a new level before returning to Wanxiang City.

The place Chu Mu planned to disappear to was naturally the Demonic Realm. After Mu Qingyi’s spirit injury and the White Tiger’s wounds were fully healed, Chu Mu would set out immediately. Just thinking about soaring through the sky on the back of that black, dreamlike phoenix made Chu Mu even more anxious to leave.

“Brother, we’re back!”

A tinkling laugh echoed through the vine-entwined courtyard, followed by the light arrival of a delicate figure, her hand holding that of an elegant and charming lady.

“`

Chu Mu watched as the two dazzling women approached, managing only a slight smile. However, his smile froze when he noticed the four servants loaded with all sorts of gaudy items trailing behind them.

“You do know there’s such a thing as a Space Ring, right?” Chu Mu said to the four burdened servants with a wry smile.

“It’s easy to forget what you haven’t bought if everything’s in a Space Ring,” Ning Man’er defended with impeccable logic.

Chu Mu couldn’t be bothered to argue with Ning Man’er’s flawed reasoning and turned his gaze to Mu Qingyi, whose ethereal presence was refreshing. “You seem in good spirits,” he commented.

“Yes, we can set off in a few days,” Mu Qingyi nodded.

Appearing not too keen on revealing her fondness for shopping, akin to most women, Mu Qingyi’s cheeks flushed slightly. She hurriedly directed the servants to take the items to her room before she retreated there herself.

After Mu Qingyi left, Chu Mu called Ning Man’er over and glared at her, “How could you be so reckless? Don’t you remember Mu Qingyi was the woman who tried to capture you?”

Ning Man’er looked aggrieved and murmured, “She hasn’t seen me, and you don’t play with me. Sister Ye is busy, so I had to find Sister Mu for company. Sister Mu is actually really nice, otherwise, you wouldn’t have helped her.”

“It’s not about whether she’s nice. It’s about you. If you act up again without telling me, I’ll send you back to the Dark Sea,” Chu Mu said.

“Brother, you’ve said that hundreds of times,” Ning Man’er pouted.

Chu Mu was left speechless. This darn girl was learning to talk back. She must have been spoiled by Ye Qingzi!

“In a few days, we’ll head to the Demonic Realm. You’ll stay in the Soul Hall by yourself,” Chu Mu, with no other choice, diverted to another topic.

“Okay, okay. What about Sister Ye?” Ning Man’er chirped with glee at the idea of Chu Mu departing, appearing thrilled at the prospect of freedom.

“She will continue her closed-door cultivation. Don’t disturb her,” Chu Mu instructed.

Ye Qingzi had seemingly unraveled the mysteries left behind in Ying Rong’s will, making her hard for Chu Mu to even catch a glimpse of these days.

Yet, seeing her focused determination, it was evident that her strength would greatly advance after this period of cultivation.

Of course, Chu Mu was intensely curious. The Spirit Art that Ying Rong had left behind appeared to far exceed any human realm techniques, enabling Ye Qingzi, already at the high-level Emperor and Peak Emperor Grade, to pursue an even higher realm. This piqued Chu Mu’s interest about the origins of Ying Rong’s Spirit Art.

“Ah? So, Brother, you’re going to be alone with Sister Mu… Ah, Sister Ye trusts Brother too much… Even I can see that after Brother stood up for Sister Mu this time, she must be exceptionally grateful, might even offer herself…”

“Stop talking nonsense!” Chu Mu glared fiercely at the outspoken girl, continuing, “The Crown Prince, Shen Mo, Teng Lang, and Pang Yue will also accompany us.”

“You could have started with that. Sister Ye truly likes you, Brother. You can’t let her down,” Ning Man’er stated.

“Go play,” Chu Mu said, none too please.

This girl was getting more and more outrageous, talking about things that she had no business teaching him about.

Ning Man’er let out a mischievous laugh and dashed toward Mu Qingyi’s room, probably to check out her purchases.

Chu Mu massaged his temples, muttering to himself about the girl’s odd behavior lately.

Shaking his head, he decided not to dwell on it, leaned back, and continued poring over the yellowing pages of the old book.

Just then, Little Mo Xie, who was lying on Chu Mu’s shoulder, woke up. Stretching comfortably, she curiously peeked at the jumbled characters in the book, occasionally glancing at the focused Chu Mu, a look of confusion in her eyes…

The crisp autumn afternoon, the courtyard with falling yellow leaves, the man half-reclining while engrossed in a book, with a clueless and adorable little fox on his shoulder–altogether, it formed a unique and serene landscape filled with the ambiance of fall.
