Chapter 192: More Than Blood

More Than Blood

A cart came into sight. Mira had come back, her stance elegant, her actions practiced.

With softly spoken elegance, she started putting food plates onto the table, with a subtle bow on every move.

Roughly sliced fruit sparkled like gems on fine silver. Buttery golden bread steamed gently, its aroma warm and enticing. Spiced omelets, rolled with herbs and melted cheese, sat next to roasted mushrooms and dainty dumplings. Crystal jugs shone with cold berry juice, its hue striking the morning sun. A traditional Moonstone breakfast—simple, but put together with love.

Leon’s plate was, as ever, filled wordlessly by Rias and Aria—one serving the omelette, the other setting the fruit precisely and dumplings and other pour glass of juice. On the other side of the table, Nova paused for a moment before reaching cautiously for a plate, serving herself with delicacy. There was a quiet stiffness to her movements, a touch of unfamiliarity. Mia came next, cheeks flushed softly, her hands stumbling a bit as she grabbed the tongs.

No one spoke much. But in the soft clink of breakfast, something soft was coming down—like morning sun rising slowly to warm the room.

As the final of the dishes was out, Leon placed his cup down and looked around with a grin.

"Shall we have breakfast?" he asked warmly.

The women nodded, and the quiet tinkle of knives against plates came as breakfast officially started.

Kyra went first, serving herself juicy fruit and a freshly baked bun. Leon, on his side of the table, reached across to his own plate and took a dumpling, biting down—then halted mid-chew, eyebrows rising in shock.

He swallowed hard, then glanced up. "Mira," he asked, his tone inquiring, "who cooked this morning?"

Mira, standing beside her with her hands clasped together, blinked. "I... I did, my lord. With some assistance from the others."

The room froze for an instant.

Mira’s fingers flexed ever so slightly. "Is something amiss, my lord?"

Leon glared at her for another moment—then grinned, slowly. "No. Not at all. This is... astonishing."

Relief washed across Mira’s face. She curtsied swiftly. "Thank you, my lord. I’m glad it is to your liking."

The tension dissolved like morning frost. The women went back to their food, and the room was soon filled with soft laughter, teasing banter, and easy talk. The kind that required no effort—just comfort and closeness.

Nova sat silently, her eyes drifting from one face to the next. She didn’t say anything, just watched. Her fingers lay lightly on her cup.

It had been years since she’d known this—

Normalcy.

Family.

She blinked her eyes shut, letting it take hold. And then opened them back up, just in time to see Rias laugh at something Aria said, and Cynthia elbowing Syra for more bread.

A table of shining eyes, warm voices, and women she now referred to as sisters.

Mia, seated across from her, sat in contemplation, thinking the same as Nova. A gentle look in her eyes but her own gaze elsewhere.

Her father had always been aloof. And her mother... buried in deedp sleep.

She’d eaten most of her life in silence, chill, and solitude. But now—surrounded by laughter, teasing, and him—even something as mundane as breakfast tasted like a gift. she smiled and continued her breakfast.

The discussion on the table drifted easily to the evening feast. Light-hearted. Filled with color and energy.

"Tonight, what are you wearing, the whole of you?" Aria asked, smiling.

Rias smiled. "Something that will turn heads. My daddy’s in particular."

Syra hummed to herself, pushing her hair back. "Considering how the chandeliers reflect light, perhaps something flowing."

"I was thinking gold," Aria said as she took a bite of food. "Or teal. We’ll be radiant in front of those chandeliers."

Cynthia, always one step ahead, leaned over and offered Nova a pastry. "Silver and purple would suit you. You’d look like starlight."

Kyra nodded softly, her voice gentle. "Maybe something more muted... soft tones might be nice. Something that whispers, not shouts."

Mia finally spoke, surprising even herself with a quiet laugh. "Or—we all wear something similar, like a perfectly tuned chorus, and outshine the entire royal court."

Syra smiled, her words filled with wicked fun. "Picture their faces when seven visions enter at once. Half the nobles would faint—particularly the single ones."

That did it.

Giggles erupted around the table, rising like sunlight through an open window.

Nova didn’t speak a word—but her smile lasted, warm and still, as if holding the moment somewhere in her heart.

Leon sat there and watched them all, reclining in his chair while he ate—silent, but happy.

Ria’s teasing.

Aria thinking colors like music.

Syra spicing up each thought.

Cynthia adding grace and order.

Kyra anchoring the moment with gentleness.

Even Mia, who used to shun every spotlight, now laughed comfortably like now part of the orchestra.

And Nova...shining, just by existing. And when their eyes met, the world softened.

There it was. Something new. Something real.

Trust. Belonging. Love.

When breakfast at last ended, Nova pushed back, smoothing her green slacks, her face serene, but her heart bursting.

"I really have to go," she whispered, smoothing a strand of hair against her ear. "Things I have to attend to"

Leon stood up from his chair. "Naturally."

She nodded once and moved to step around him—but he took her wrist, his touch soft. Before she could protest.

Wordlessly, he leaned forward and brushed a soft kiss across her mouth.

The table fell dead silent.

Nova’s eyes went wide—barely, but not at all in disdain—before she didn’t move.

When he released her, a soft blush rose to her cheeks. She cleared her throat, smoothed out her coat. "Ahem. I’ll see you tonight."

"We’ll meet there," Leon said with a little smile.

She whirled hastily—too upset to confront the other girls— and departed without even a bye to her new sisters. Then she strode away—and without glancing back, left the mansion with her steps poised, elegant, but her ears flushed.

At the table, the other women were still in shock.

"...Did he really kiss her?" Syra whispered, elbows forward as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

Not just kissed," Aria whispered. "That had. weight."

Cynthia let out a slow breath. "Well. I suppose it’s official now."

Mia sat stunned, chewing on her lower lip. So she’s already this close to him?

Leon slid back into his chair with a sigh, running his hand through his hair like kissing her was the most normal thing in the world. "Well," he said, slapping his palms together once. "Shall we get ready for the banquet?

The women looked at one another—then gradually, as if shaking off shock, they nodded, each seeming to acknowledge this was just. normal now. The shock gave way to soft smiles, and each one stood up, one by one, to start preparing.

The morning had begun in mystery...

But it ended in something far deeper: understanding, silent acceptance—

And something that could just be love.

And in that gentle breakfast light, something unspoken took root in all their hearts.

Family wasn’t always tied by blood. sometime tied by love also.
