Chapter 186: When Eyes Finally Opened
When Eyes Finally Opened
Rias, who was a step behind the rest of them, blinked repeatedly. "Wait... that’s not Mia," she uttered slowly. "Mia returned to her mansion to get ready for the evening dress for tonight’s event... and she hasn’t returned yet."
The tension in the air grew heavier.
Cynthia’s eyes narrowed, flicking from the enigmatic girl to Leon, still sleeping soundly with a guardian arm around her.
"Then... if she’s not Mia..." her voice hung. "Then who the hell is she?" Cynthia grumbled in disbelief, her voice low. "And why is she in his bed?"
They all went quiet once more as they crept closer—stealthy, silent, but motivated by the same maelstrom of feelings: confusion, wonder... and something keener.
Aria said it with a hint of amusement at the situation. "He’s cuddling her like she’s his."
"That’s what I’m trying to understand," Kyra whispered. "Since when—and where—did he find our new sister?"
They exchanged glances, a silent storm of thoughts swirling behind their eyes. Jealousy. Confusion. Curiosity. None of them recognized the girl, yet Leon held her like she belonged there—as if she’d always belonged.
Rias crossed her arms, though her posture was more unsettled than stern.
"She’s... beautiful, by her figure," Rias whispered—hating it, but true. The girl’s face remained obscured by a veil of dark hair, but her figure was plain to see, elegant and striking. It was enough for Rias to make the supposition, although she didn’t want to believe.
Cynthia folded her arms, her voice short but controlled. "Do you think you should wake darling and inquire?" she said finally.
There was a moment of silence.
Slowly, the women nodded one by one in unison.
"Wake him," Aria chimed with a sly grin. "Let’s hear what darling has to say."
The women laughed, mischief sparkling in their eyes.
Syra moved forward theatrically, framing her mouth with her hands. "Darling, wake uuuup~!" she sang playfully, loud enough to shake the windows.
From the big bed covered in golden sheets, a drowsy murmur shattered the silence.
Leon woke up first, his brows knitting at the sudden sound.
Meanwhile, Nova winced a little as the boisterous voice reverberated in the room. Her eyelashes fluttered open, blinking at the golden morning light that streamed through the tall windows. A gentle yawn escaped from her lips as she moved slightly under the blanket, the sunlight catching in her blazing red hair like a halo.
Leon blinked a few times, confused.
What the—?
His eyes took a moment to adjust, and then he stiffened.
At the bed’s foot stood five exquisitely beautiful women, each wearing elegant robes of silken and velvet softness, their loveliness bordering on otherworldly. All of them had mischievous grins on their faces, as if a band of pranksters who’d successfully staged a good prank.
"Good morning, husband," they chimed in one voice, their voices silky and taunting. Aria winked at him playfully.
Leon blinked, still dazed and attempting to comprehend what he was looking at. He heaved himself up slightly—only to stop the instant he felt it.
Something warm. Soft. And very much alive. nestled against him.
His head slowly rotated.
Nova.
Nova, sleeping half-off, her face against his chest, her eyes softly breathing in sleep. She also woke up when she heard the cry out. Her face was serene, but also groggy from resting—helpless... near-childlike.
But then—she sensed it.
A difference. A movement in the air. The lifting of his body next to her. The immediate awareness of... eyes.
Nova’s eyebrows furrowed. Her sleepy eyes opened heavy with sleep, still fuzzy with drowsiness —and encountered the sight of five strange, stunningly lovely women standing by the bed, looking straight at her with smiling faces.
For a moment, she didn’t budge.
Then, she felt a soft grip about her. She looked slowly down—and saw an arm around her waist.
Her brain went blank.
Her heart skipped a beat in confusion as she wondered, whose arm is this?
She shifted her head—and froze.
Leon. His shirt a little undone. His hair disheveled. His eyes sleep-drugged, gazing back at her just as wide-eyed.
A jolt of panic ran through her chest. What the hell?!
"W-What are you doing?!" she blurted out, her cheeks burning a deep red.
"W-Why am I cud—?"
Realizing she was still pressed up against him—one leg thrown over his, his arm around her waist—she panicked. With a flustered scowl and a hot blush.
Without thinking, Nova shoved against him—hard enough to make room.
But panic made her use more strength than she meant to.
WHUMP!
Leon was swept off the bed like a sack of flour, thudding onto the carpeted floor.
Ow!" Leon grunted. "What the devil...?" he swore, looking up at the ceiling with his mind in shocked disarray.
Nova sat bolt upright, holding the blanket against her chest, her entire face blazing red. She gasped, seeing what she’d done.
"Leon?! I-I’m sorry, I—! I didn’t mean to—! I just woke up and—"
But her apology was lost in the cacophony of laughter from the women.
Rias, Syra, and Aria laughed first. Cynthia put her hand over her mouth to suppress a giggle. Even Kyra granted herself a polite smile, her eyes twinkling with merriment as they observed the spectacle.
"Daddy, you had quite the morning—and you flew like a ragdoll!" Rias laughed between tears.
Leon groaned on the floor, massaging his back. "Glad I could entertain you in the morn’. sweetheart," he growled with a wry grin.
This just made the women laugh harder. Another round of giggles swept the room.
Nova, who was still sitting up and holding the blanket, blushed more. She looked back and forth between Leon and the crowd, her voice coming out soft and bewildered. ".Huh?
It was just then that Rias and the others’ laughter gradually subsided as their gazes shifted to the other person still lying in bed—the woman whose face was half-obscured by a tangled mess of hair.
Leon got back on the bed and sat on the edge with a soft sigh, pushing his tousled hair back from his face. He gazed at the woman lying next to him, his face a mixture of amusement and comprehension.
