Everyone in the room revealed expressions of horror.

The buzz-cut man glared at the boyfriend with fury in his eyes, grabbing him by the collar, "What did you just say? You’ve been monitoring us at their request?"

The boyfriend appeared indifferent, "That’s right. You’ve all seen what those people are capable of; I’m just trying to stay alive. I didn’t do anything wrong."

His girlfriend walked over, stunned, her eyes red, "You... you’ve actually become an informant for those people. You only thought about saving your own skin. What about me? I was tricked into coming here because of you!"

The boyfriend’s gaze was icy as he spoke, "Don’t be so naive, okay? I can’t even save my own life, who’s going to care about you? If those people outside said your life could be traded for mine, I would have done it long ago. Unfortunately, they don’t even care about you."

The girl’s complexion turned extremely pale, and she was so shaken she couldn’t even cry out loud.

Chen Fan frowned as he looked at the boyfriend, thinking to himself that only in life-or-death situations can one truly see a person’s nature, and how true that saying was.

Footsteps were heard from outside.

All faces filled with panic, everyone hid in the corner, no longer paying attention to the boyfriend.

"Those people outside said that if we tried to escape, they would punish all of us. It’s all this guy’s fault for claiming he could save us without having the ability. Now thanks to this informant, we are all going to suffer because of you!" A man pointed at Chen Fan and shouted.

Everyone nodded in agreement, casting resentful glances at Chen Fan.

The buzz-cut young man sighed, "Buddy, you’re just too naive. I hope you take the initiative to admit your mistake later. That way we might still avoid a disaster."

Chen Fan looked helpless, but said nothing.

The sound of unlocking filled the air, and the door to the room was kicked open.

Protector San arrived at the door with seven others.

"Who wants to save you!" Protector San said coldly.

The boyfriend immediately pointed towards Chen Fan, "Him! It’s him, he said he came to save us, and told us to follow his plan!"

Protector San glanced at Chen Fan and cursed, "There is indeed something fishy about you!"

The boyfriend looked sycophantically at Protector San, "Sir, I did as you asked and reported their situation, that should count as a merit, right? Can you let me go now?"

Protector San glanced at him, laughed scornfully, and said, "Alright, since you’re so eager to get out, I’ll let you stay outside."

The boyfriend’s face lit up with joy, and he quickly started walking towards the outside.

The boyfriend screamed in agony, falling to the ground, his face contorted with pain.

He gritted his teeth as he looked at his legs to find they were both broken.

"Why... why? Didn’t you agree to let me go?" The boyfriend gasped with a pallid face and cried out in despair.

Protector San smiled and said, "Aren’t you outside now? To keep you from running away, I had to do this. You couldn’t have thought I was going to let you free, right?"

The boyfriend’s face filled with regret. Had he known it would end like this, he’d have been better off staying inside the room.

Seeing this, everyone within the room grew even more fearful.

Protector San turned to Chen Fan, "Kid, tell me, who are you exactly, and why are you causing trouble for us? If you confess truthfully, I can give you a swift end."

Chen Fan smiled, "I saw injustice on the road and drew my sword to help. It’s actually you guys who should come clean about your affairs to me!"

Those in the room shook their heads as they saw how defiant Chen Fan was.

"Didn’t he just see the means they employed? By doing this, he’s practically seeking death!"

"Sigh, this guy is just too reckless. Let’s just hope his foolishness doesn’t drag us down too."

In an instant, Chen Fan’s figure disappeared from where he was and reappeared behind Protector San.

"Do you think you can escape?"

Protector San felt his scalp tingle, goosebumps rising all over his body.

Clamping his teeth, he spun around and threw a punch at Chen Fan.

Chen Fan caught the punch with ease and with a gentle squeeze, broke his arm.

Following that, he kicked Protector San in the stomach; with a loud thud, Protector San flew like a streak of light, crashing into the wall of a house, causing it to collapse.

The crowd inside the house was stunned beyond words.

"So he really did come to rescue us. With his might, no wonder he was so confident. We misunderstood him."

One man smacked himself hard, saying, "Damn it, I was afraid he’d get us in trouble, but I was just being a cynic. I feel like I deserve a good slap!"

Many people shared the same sentiment, although only he took the initiative to slap himself.

Chen Fan walked towards the collapsed house, located the leg of Protector San sticking out from the rubble, and dragged him out of the debris.

Protector San’s mouth was full of blood, his breath was feeble to the extreme, and his eyes were filled with nothing but terror.

"Spare me, spare me, my lord, I beg you, I’m just working for the Sect, all of this was a Sect mission, and I had no choice. Please show mercy!"
