Chapter 400 - 285: Return to Earth Abyss Star
Chapter 400: Chapter 285: Return to Earth Abyss Star
The next day, as dawn broke, Ji Xinghuo rose early from his bed.
"It’s the warm season now."
Stepping outside the treehouse, Ji Xinghuo felt a subtle change despite the icy, snowy landscape. The temperature was beginning to warm up.
It had been night all through the previous evening, with no starlight.
Starting today, the night would usher in the star-light, growing gradually longer, and the weather would continue to warm up, much like springtime on Earth.
After breakfast prepared by Ren Mian, she changed into her combat attire, a long dress over her battle suit and a belt with many pockets around her waist, each pocket holding plants. Ji Xinghuo knew this was just a disguise; she had space equipment, and all the useful items were tucked inside it.
Ren Mian also put on her conical hat, a layer of light gauze concealing her stunning visage.
Just as it was back in Olympia.
Seeing her in this attire, Ji Xinghuo felt a sudden nostalgia for their days in Olympia. Of course, things were even better than before now.
"Sis, are you leaving again?" Xiao Kui fluttered over and clung to Ren Mian’s shoulder, gazing at her with longing, her little face filled with reluctance.
"Mm," Ren Mian reassured, "Rest easy at home, Xiao Kui. Brother Xinghuo and I will be back soon."
Seeing Qing Hong grow larger, Xiao Kui asked, "Is Qing Hong going too?"
"Yes."
Ji Xinghuo hopped onto Qing Hong’s back. "Why don’t you come too, Xiao Kui? It’ll be boring at home without Qing Hong to keep you company."
Xiao Kui’s eyes flickered with hesitation, tempted by the idea.
But in the end, she shook her head, "Never mind, I prefer to stay at home. Sis, Brother Xinghuo, make sure you come back soon."
"Sure," Ren Mian gently stroked her little head.
Ji Xinghuo pulled her onto Qing Hong’s back, setting her in front of him. After bidding Xiao Kui farewell, Qing Hong began to run, passing through the spatial ripples and leaving the secret realm.
Carrying two people didn’t affect Qing Hong’s speed at all; he galloped over ice, sped across lakes, and quickly left Peach Blossom Valley behind.
Inhaling the faint fragrance and feeling the warm, soft jade in his arms, Ji Xinghuo started to become a little restless.
To distract himself, he asked, "Ren Jie, how did you used to travel to Eternal Day City?" It was over three thousand kilometers from Peach Blossom Valley to Eternal Day City. Walking there would be far too slow.
"I can create Poison Stinger Flying Dragons," Ren Mian replied.
"Why not use it?"
Ren Mian turned and gave Ji Xinghuo a playful glare, "Don’t you enjoy having me sit in your lap?"
"Uh..." Ji Xinghuo felt a bit embarrassed but also secretly pleased, understanding that she was referring to the time back in Olympia when they rented a mount. However, her willingness to accommodate his preferences showed him his importance in her heart.
"This is too slow; I have a faster way."
Ji Xinghuo told Qing Hong to stop, then he jumped down, and Ren Mian followed, landing in the snow. She watched him shrink Qing Hong to a miniature size and slip it into his pocket.
As Ren Mian watched him with curiosity, Ji Xinghuo stepped forward and scooped her up in his arms.
"You’re going to carry me and fly? Can you manage that?"
Ren Mian wrapped her arms around Ji Xinghuo’s neck with her breath close to him, a blush tinted her face at the intimate posture, grateful that her hat was there to cover any show of embarrassment.
She knew Ji Xinghuo had recently merged with an alien species with the power of flight, but she doubted he could be that fast and thought he was just making excuses to hold her.
Yet she allowed it.
Ji Xinghuo gave her a reassuring smile. Going to Earth Abyss Star this time, he’d certainly have to expose a lot of his strength. Might as well be quick and save time.
With a thought, he reversed the magnetic poles to make himself lighter and shock wave turbulence generated a huge thrust.
Boom!
The ground shook, and with Ren Mian in his arms, Ji Xinghuo shot into the sky, soaring upwards instantly.
Ren Mian’s hat nearly blew away, the wind lifted the veil to reveal a face full of astonishment.
"So fast!"
The cold wind whistled by their ears as the ground and sky streaked past in retreat. Ren Mian estimated Ji Xinghuo’s flying speed to be over 150 kilometers per hour.
After his star power broke through the 5,000-point mark, the repulsive force of the rotating magnetic field intensified, and the speed increased accordingly.
More star power could sustain even faster speeds!
Ren Mian took out a green leaf, causing it to grow rapidly and expand, becoming a light green semi-transparent energy shield around her and Ji Xinghuo. The front extended and sharpened like a fighter jet, reducing air resistance and decreasing the energy Ji Xinghuo needed for flight.
"If you can’t keep up, don’t push yourself too hard," she said with a light laugh, "It’s okay to rest a bit."
Ji Xinghuo snorted, "I could fly non-stop from here to Olympia, circle around Earth once, and then fly back."
"Braggart!"
Ren Mian took his words as a man’s pride and didn’t believe a word of it.
Ji Xinghuo just smiled and didn’t argue any further.
He soared through the skies with Ren Mian in his arms, with no intention of slowing down or stopping, one hour, two hours...
Five hours later, seeing Ji Xinghuo still looking utterly at ease, Ren Mian was finally convinced.
"You always surprise me," Ren Mian mused.
She adjusted her position in Ji Xinghuo’s arms, relaxing her grip around his neck slightly and resting her head against his sturdy shoulder, a feeling of safety she had never known before arose within her, filling her with satisfaction.
Ji Xinghuo smiled slightly at her, "Good to know you don’t think I’m bluffing."
"I underestimated you."
Although she didn’t know how Ji Xinghuo managed to fly so fast, so continuously, and seemingly never tire, she didn’t want to ask too many questions.
They set off in the morning and flew for over twenty hours. By evening, they were approaching Eternal Day City.
A beam of light pierced the sky on the horizon ahead.
"We’re almost there."
Ji Xinghuo landed and let Ren Mian down. She summoned two towering Wolf Soul Woods and rode them for dozens of kilometers, reaching Eternal Day City before nightfall.
Before entering the city, Ji Xinghuo put on the Fierce Brace and transformed back into the ferocious and indifferent Highlander.
The Crystal Elite Clan guards at the city gate caught them.
Ji Xinghuo showed her Eternal Day Badge, and the guard’s expression changed. After checking Ren Mian’s badge as well, he didn’t say a word and immediately let them through.
"Let’s find a place to stay, apply to enter Earth Abyss Star, and wait for the next batch to depart," Ren Mian communicated through her thought necklace in her mind.
"No need."
Ji Xinghuo replied, "We’re heading to the Star Gate beneath Light Peak right now."
He was now a General of Eternal Day, with a high clearance level. He didn’t need to apply; he could go directly to Earth Abyss Star and could return at any time, coming and going as he pleased.
"Huh?" Ren Mian immediately guessed, "You’re actually the General of Eternal Day, no wonder that guard’s attitude towards you was different."
"Heh heh..." Ji Xinghuo was quite pleased with himself.
The two Wolf Soul Woods ran down the streets, and soon they arrived at the Star Gate passage at the foot of Light Peak. Ji Xinghuo presented his Eternal Day Badge, and after his identity was verified, the Crystal Elite Clan guard immediately opened the gate, leading to the underground Star Gate.
The path was unobstructed all the way.
The two stepped through the Star Gate and arrived on Earth Abyss Star.
At the request of the Crystal Elite Clan, Ji Xinghuo and Ren Mian both had positioning crystal chips implanted, gaining access to Sky Net before reaching Guardian City.
"Where to now?" Ji Xinghuo asked.
Since they were on Earth Abyss Star, their conversation had to be normal to avoid detection by the Crystal Elite Clan due to the presence of the chips.
The two had agreed on what they could and could not divulge, communicating through the thought necklace to maintain an understanding.
Ren Mian operated her badge and projected a satellite map of Earth Abyss Star.
"This area."
She pointed to a location on the satellite map.
It was a Fourth Level area, near the equator of Earth Abyss Star, on the largest continent. This continent was divided into more than two hundred areas, including the most dangerous four Sixth Level areas. The capital of the Crystal Elite Clan, Eternal Night City, was located deep underground in the center of the continent.
Ji Xinghuo understood at a glance.
The closer to Eternal Night City, the more dangerous it became. Moreover, it was not just the surface that was perilous; the Biogenic Mother Tree kept invading underground, aiming to seize control of the Star Gate.
Therefore, the underground transportation network built by the Crystal Elite Clan was limited to Fourth Level and lower areas.
Areas above Fourth Level could only be reached by traveling on the surface.
The number of shelters also became scarcer.
The two took a train and left Guardian City, and soon arrived at their destination. Coming out of the elevator, it was daylight with endless primitive forests in sight, where towering trees stood tall upon the land.
Ji Xinghuo’s electromagnetic induction spread out, and his expression changed slightly at once.
In the vicinity were dozens of monstrous creatures!
Most of them were lurking underground, each of a considerable size with bizarre shapes, made up of various plants’ roots, leaves, and tentacles, and were at least of Superior Level.
Although they were not a significant threat to him, this was far more dangerous than a First Level area.
"Don’t move yet."
Ren Mian said, scattering dozens of seeds on the ground, which grew rapidly, each seed transforming into a towering Wolf Soul Wood, forming a group of creatures.
These Wolf Soul Woods were much more powerful than the ordinary ones, dominating even in Fourth Level areas.
She then produced two green mushrooms in her hand.
One mushroom flew over and landed on Ji Xinghuo, taking root and sprouting. In a few seconds, it grew a green shell covering his entire body, with the outer layer being wrinkled skin covered in burls, making his whole body look bloated and much like a Fungal Giant.
In a non-combat state, this peculiar giant would shrink to a size not much different from humans.
Wrapped in this disguise, Ji Xinghuo now looked like a Fungal Giant.
It not only concealed his scent but also changed his aura.
Ren Mian disguised herself as a Fungal Giant as well, and her voice came from within, "This will allow us to move safely on the surface. Those creatures will see us as one of their own and won’t attack us."
Ji Xinghuo nodded to show he understood.
On Earth Abyss Star, the Plant Witch was like a fish in water, finding her methods far more convenient than those of other professions.
"Let’s go."
Ren Mian urged the pack of Wolf Soul Woods into a run.
They quickly entered the vast forest. Not far to the side was a creature lurking. In Ji Xinghuo’s electromagnetic induction, it showed no reaction to the passing wolves, and he finally relaxed.
In the hours that followed, the pack ran wildly, crossing several Fourth Level areas in sequence and stepping into a Fifth Level area.
Shortly after entering this area, Ji Xinghuo sensed danger.
There was a swamp up ahead.
Below the seemingly calm surface of the swamp lurked countless masses of rooted creatures, entwined with roots. They were Swamp Lurkers, densely packed, numbering in the tens of thousands, with no end in sight within the field of view!
