Chapter 347: Chapter 251: The Wish for Revenge
"Hm?"
Ji Xinghuo’s eyes turned dangerous, and the room was filled with a terrifying presence.
Both of the Winged People were trembling in fear, feeling as if the Highlander in front of them was a wild True Dragon from the plateau, about to breathe out dragon breath and burn them alive.
"Please don’t misunderstand," Bai Mang said firmly, "I will tell you where the Gale Beast was last seen. You can look for it yourself."
Ji Xinghuo’s brows relaxed.
However, given the Gale Beast’s high speed and the lack of a fixed lair, even knowing its last location would hardly make it easier to find.
Since there had been sightings, he might as well be led directly to it.
"You lead me there," he stated in a deep voice.
"It wouldn’t be useful if I went," Bai Mang immediately shook his head. "This Gale Beast has been spotted several times, and many in the tribe, including myself, have tried to hunt it but couldn’t catch up. It last appeared at the end of last month, 12 days ago. Even if I went, I wouldn’t be able to find it."
Ji Xinghuo considered this for a moment and found it reasonable.
Going alone, without others to slow him down, might even increase the efficiency of the search.
"How much?" he asked again.
"I don’t want your money," Bai Mang said with a complex expression, staring at Ji Xinghuo. "My parents and sister were killed by the Blood Madman. I swore to the Elk Prophet to kill a thousand Blood Madmen in my lifetime, to avenge my family."
His tone was light, yet it conveyed an immense hatred.
However, Ji Xinghuo’s face remained expressionless.
"If it weren’t for the Prophet’s orders, I would never let you into the tribe, let alone tell you the location of the Gale Beast."
"I hope you don’t find it."
Bai Mang threw a crude map on the table and walked out of the room.
"Sir, please understand, it’s not you Bai Mang has something against..." Uncle Gen whispered an apology to Ji Xinghuo, but he noticed Ji Xinghuo examining the map without listening to his words at all, clearly unconcerned about the matter.
This was not magnanimity, but disregard.
A Highlander and follower of the Red Emperor who only knows killing—a Blood Madman—what use was there in apologizing to him?
Uncle Gen scoffed at himself and swallowed the words he had meant to say, then he walked out and closed the door behind him.
What he didn’t know was that, behind the door, Ji Xinghuo cast a glance, capturing every subtlety in his expression and all the movements in the inn, clear as a pattern in the palm of his hand.
The next day.
Ji Xinghuo had a comfortable night’s sleep, got up, ate the sumptuous breakfast prepared by Uncle Gen, and immediately left the inn, led away from the Cangye Tribe by Bai Mang.
All the way, Bai Mang remained silent.
Ji Xinghuo didn’t speak either.
Bai Mang dropped him off outside the stone wall and immediately turned back, as if ridding himself of a calamity. On the wall, a group of Winged People guards watched Ji Xinghuo with wariness and hostility.
"Heh." Ji Xinghuo’s lips curved up slightly, and he walked west, carrying his war axe.
As they watched his figure disappear into the cold wind, the Winged People of Cangye Tribe finally breathed a sigh of relief. In fact, the entire group had spent the previous night surrounding the inn, taking shifts throughout the night, on guard against the Blood Madman suddenly going mad and causing injury to their people.
Ji Xinghuo was fully aware of this, but he did not care.
The only thing he was somewhat curious about was the Winged People Prophet who had ordered his entry into the tribe and then had not shown up again.
But since the Prophet did not appear, he couldn’t be bothered to ask and possibly stir up trouble.
The map given by Bai Mang indicated the direction. The last spot the Gale Beast was seen was more than 200 kilometers west of Cangye Tribe, nestled between several snowy peaks. Given the speed and habits of the Gale Beast, the few thousand square kilometers encompassing these mountains might harbor it.
Such a vast area would take days to search even with electromagnetic induction.
Once Cangye Tribe was out of sight, Ji Xinghuo let Qing Hong appear and mounted it to speed up his journey.
By noon, the cold wind that had been blowing for days suddenly stopped, and ahead on the horizon, several towering peaks appeared, forming a massive white mountain range, an awe-inspiring sight.
"Ice Finger Mountain Range."
Ji Xinghuo looked out at the bright white peaks, named so because the terrain had five of the highest peaks roughly aligned in a steep line.
The map from Han Qiu also pointed out this place and included a couple of notes.
The Ice Finger Mountain Range is dangerous.
It is home to a type of insectoid monster called "Thousand-legged Ice Worm," with quite a large population, and the entire range is their territory.
However, Ji Xinghuo wasn’t very concerned; having monsters around was a good opportunity to harvest Alien Species and Spiritual Origin Ability.
If the monsters proved too strong, he could always detect them early and flee.
Just as he was about to enter the Ice Finger Mountain Range, his senses alerted him, and he stopped. A faint voice resonated in his mind: "Please return to the Cangye Tribe."
"Huh?"
Ji Xinghuo furrowed his brows.
This method of message transmission was somewhat like that of a Mind Hacker, the voice carrying a strong implicature, yet sounding as if it were pleading.
The voice was somewhat familiar, and he immediately remembered it was from the Winged People Prophet from the previous night.
"What’s the situation?"
Ji Xinghuo thought for a moment but decided to ignore it.
A few minutes later, though, the voice of the Winged People Prophet sounded again, more urgent but seemingly constrained by his abilities, unable to clarify the reason.
"Look back and run if there’s danger," Ji Xinghuo changed his mind. His impression of the Cangye Tribe was good, and these Winged People bore no ill will. In the brutal Bloody Plateau where survival of the fittest ruled, Cangye Tribe was a rare haven of peace.
Qing Hong immediately turned back, accelerating its run.
In just over an hour, Cangye Tribe appeared again in front of him.
Ji Xinghuo sensed something was wrong in the tribe and was about to quicken his pace when electromagnetic induction detected a team of six people. They had just left the tribe and were heading in his direction, and would meet him in just a few minutes.
"To that side."
Ji Xinghuo pointed to a mountain hollow. Qing Hong ran at full speed towards it, shrank immediately upon entering, and he activated his Stealth Ring, hiding motionlessly inside a crevice in the icy rocks.
It was not long before the six-man team arrived.
They passed about two thousand meters in front of Ji Xinghuo. At that distance, it was hard for others to spot him, but electromagnetic induction clearly scanned the situation.
All six were riding battle horses, and the person at the front was an acquaintance, Bai Mang.
He must have been the guide.
However, Bai Mang was clearly not there willingly.
Even without seeing his face, the changes in the magnetic field revealed his pain, the injuries across his body, and even a piece of his horn had been trimmed off.
Ji Xinghuo’s attention fell on the other five individuals. None of them was from the Cangye Tribe.
Two were Dan people, two Highlanders, and one was from the Winged People.
"Legendary!"
"And there are two of them."
Ji Xinghuo’s heart skipped a beat. Among these five Alien Race members, two were Legendary, one of them a Dan person, whose magnetic field pattern was completely different from the others; it presented a water ripple pattern, a unique phenomenon of those with Spiritual Energy. He was a Legendary-level Spiritual Power Stringer!
The other Legendary was a Highlander, very tall, exceeding two meters. His body looked as though it was forged from metal, with a magnetic field distribution that possessed strong iron magnetism.
"Steel Warrior?"
Ji Xinghuo made a guess.
Since the implantation of the Magnetic Spirit Star Core, he had become more sensitive to magnetic fields; this type of iron magnetism was not uncommon at the Sky Falling Cliff. Every Steel Warrior was like this, such as Misha.
The other three were all Fourth Rank Evolvers, powerful in their own right.
Ji Xinghuo did not act rashly and only left his hiding spot in the mountain hollow when the team moved out of the range of his electromagnetic induction. He did not follow them but instead headed for the Cangye Tribe. Before he even arrived, his electromagnetic induction had already scanned the situation inside, causing his expression to change.
The Cangye Tribe was a scene of devastation.
The originally exquisite houses had collapsed partially, with at least a thousand people lying in the ruins. Scattered across the central open space of the tribe were numerous chopped yet frozen bodies.
Cries were everywhere, yesterday’s tranquility completely gone.
"The Prophet?"
Last night, Ji Xinghuo had learned the details of the Cangye Tribe. Among these members of the Cangye Tribe, there was only one Legendary being, the Prophet.
He soon found the Prophet, frozen within a block of solid ice, already showing no signs of life.
The tribal inn had also been destroyed.
The body of the innkeeper, Uncle Gen, lay in a pool of blood, long dead.
"They really hit hard," Ji Xinghuo sighed. He didn’t need to ask to know; it was the work of those five people just now.
He felt regret, and his mood was heavy.
This was the Bloody Plateau, where everything was built on strength; otherwise, one was rootless as pondweed, easily crushed into oblivion.
The call of the Prophet earlier had actually been a plea for help.
"Wait...". Ji Xinghuo thought more carefully.
Over an hour ago, those five people should not have reached the Cangye Tribe yet, but the Prophet had already sent him a message. The "Elk Prophet" was a Star God with the ability to predict, and as a follower, the Prophet of the Cangye Tribe might have had a similar ability, though not as clear, likely just some hints.
Thus, the Prophet might have already had a premonition last night and approved his entry into the tribe.
But why hadn’t she asked him to stop it?
Could it be that she hadn’t foreseen it?
Ji Xinghuo was somewhat puzzled. This type of prophetic ability, especially in the psychic realm, always seemed baffling to people, eluding comprehension.
But he understood one thing.
The call of the Cangye Prophet wasn’t a plea for help but a request for him to avenge the Cangye Tribe.
"I didn’t agree to that."
"But if there is a chance, I might just make a move."
Ji Xinghuo was not particularly angry, nor did he think about seeking revenge.
If they could not grasp strength themselves, this would not be the first time, nor would it be the last; vengeance wouldn’t make a difference. The Cangye people also had those large-scale tribes; they should relocate there and join a larger tribe for guaranteed survival.
He didn’t enter the Cangye Tribe and just turned away.
Half an hour later.
With Qing Hong’s sense of smell, Ji Xinghuo caught up with the team ahead, but he didn’t rashly approach them, nor did he let them enter the range of his electromagnetic induction, instead tracking them from a distance of several kilometers.
"Are they also going to the Ice Finger Mountain Range?"
The direction this team was moving in was the same as his previous path.
Ji Xinghuo was puzzled. Could it be that they too were looking for the heart of the Gale Beast, which was why they forced Bai Mang to lead them?
But was a mere Gale Beast worth such a commotion by two Legendary figures?
Ji Xinghuo was not certain.
Soon afterward, the team indeed entered the Ice Finger Mountain Range, and he didn’t hesitate to follow them into the mountain area.
