Chapter 289: Chapter 220: Artificial Meteorite_2
From his perspective, it seemed like dozens of large snakes were swiftly slithering through the grass.
The highland terror wolves were fast and coordinated well, dispersing and encircling from different directions.
However, they were still slower than Qing Hong.
Qing Hong ran as usual, without changing direction.
Ji Xinghuo quickly drew his bow with both hands, shooting arrow after arrow. One terror wolf after another fell. Soon, some wolves sensed danger, turned, and tried to flee, but they didn’t get far before their hearts were pierced. In less than ten seconds, the entire pack was annihilated.
Qing Hong turned and ran back.
Ji Xinghuo jumped down and checked the bodies of the terror wolves without finding any valuable Alien Species.
After all, they were just ordinary beasts; the leader was just an Elite.
He retrieved his arrows and continued riding Qing Hong forward. Killing the wolf pack was just a minor interlude on the road, casually harvesting over thirty points of Spiritual Origin Ability.
They advanced dozens of kilometers more.
Ji Xinghuo encountered others, mostly Hunting Teams and some Solo Hunters, who, like himself, were heading to Sky Falling Cliff.
On the plateau, everyone remained on guard at all times.
Unless absolutely necessary, they wouldn’t approach or interact with strangers.
Despite encountering a few Mutants from Earth and what seemed to be a team from a Hunting Company, Ji didn’t consider making contact.
As they drew closer to Sky Falling Mountain, the slopes became increasingly steep.
Ji Xinghuo became even more cautious.
"Hm?"
Suddenly, he spotted a very unique mountain peak that wasn’t Sky Falling Cliff, but a cliff some ten kilometers away. It was one side of a tall mountain, where the rock layers exposed from the middle upwards were extremely steep, the rock face completely vertical to the ground, and spectacularly imposing.
As they had approached Sky Falling Cliff, it was common to see rock peaks like this.
But none had such a great height difference.
Ji Xinghuo estimated that from the top of the cliff to the bottom, the drop was likely over two thousand meters.
Most importantly, below the cliff was the river surface.
He couldn’t help but recall a famous site on Earth, located in northern Europe called "Pulpit Rock," where the cliff faced a fjord with a drop of over six hundred meters, extremely perilous. Yet the drop of this cliff was even greater, more than triple that of "Pulpit Rock!"
"Maybe..."
An excellent idea suddenly crossed Ji Xinghuo’s mind.
No sooner said than done.
He immediately had Qing Hong change direction.
Moments later, Qing Hong reached the base of the cliff, looked up, and observed its sheer walls, creating an illusion as if the sky were about to fall, an intensely shocking feeling.
"The drop must be over two thousand meters!"
"Terrifying."
Ji Xinghuo exclaimed.
If this were on Earth, it would definitely become a globally famous tourist spot.
He looked at the river over one hundred meters wide below the cliff, casually picked up a rock, and threw it down, nodding to himself. The river was deep, but the current was not strong.
"Perfect!"
Ji Xinghuo patted Qing Hong, directing it to run around the base of the mountain, and they reached a relatively gentle slope where they began to climb.
Even the relatively gentle part was not easily climbable for most people.
Qing Hong climbed a third of the way when the slope became steeper, with many areas having inclinations of seventy to eighty degrees, no place to gain a foothold. However, Qing Hong excelled at climbing, its limbs and claws easily piercing the rock face, akin to a gigantic gecko, swiftly scaling the mountain while plastered to its surface.
Ji Xinghuo sat on Qing Hong’s back, his legs clamped tightly, listening to the howling cold wind beside his ears, feeling somewhat terrified.
It took nearly an hour to reach the top.
The temperature here dropped to below minus ten degrees, the wind on his face like ice knives.
Looking around, everything on the ground had shrunk, and no matter which direction you looked, there were endless peaks and mountains. Climbing over the top and walking down a few hundred meters, they arrived at that cliff. It was more quiet here, sheltered from the wind.
The top of the cliff was wide open, barren except for rocks.
Ji Xinghuo approached the edge and glanced down.
Even though he knew he would not fall to his death, he still felt a bit dizzy and his legs slightly weak, which were human instincts carved into their genes.
"Holy shit!"
Ji Xinghuo regained his composure and calmed down.
He found a stone weighing several tens of kilograms and threw it off the cliff.
Then he watched the mechanical stopwatch.
"1, 2, 3..."
Around the 22nd second, Ji Xinghuo heard a faint splash coming from below, but with his hearing, he could hear it very clearly.
The speed of sound in the Star Realm is 1,024 meters per second, and the acceleration due to gravity is close to that of Earth, about 10 meters per second squared.
Subtracting two seconds for the sound of the splash to travel, the stone’s free-fall time was about 20 seconds.
Ji Xinghuo quickly calculated.
Soon, he arrived at the conclusion that the height of the cliff was a little over 2,000 meters, with an error less than 30 meters. Using the free-fall formula, the stone’s speed upon reaching the river surface would have been 200 meters per second, equivalent to a speed of 720 kilometers per hour!
"Fast enough!"
Ji Xinghuo’s eyes lit up.
Imagine, what would be the outcome if one were struck by a stone traveling at a speed of 720 kilometers per hour?
What if the stone weighed several tons?
Actually, he had thought about this back on Earth, considering the possibility of collecting objects in motion into the Dimension Stomach to use as weapons.
But he’d never been able to proceed.
Of course, the best would be space-based weapons dropped from space, but how to catch them? If one missed and didn’t collect the falling object into the Dimension Stomach, it would likely kill him, turning into a huge joke. Renting an airplane to carry ingots into the sky and then dropping them also proved exceedingly difficult to catch.
Moreover, with countless satellites monitoring Earth’s orbit, going into space would require the support of official agencies, exposing his secrets.
All in all, it was fraught with difficulties.
Ji Xinghuo had to abandon the idea.
This highland cliff, however, provided the perfect conditions!
Ji Xinghuo walked around and quickly found a suitable boulder. He pushed it; it must have weighed about twelve tons, but it was too large to fit into his Dimension Stomach, so he transferred some items into Qing Hong’s Dimension Stomach.
Trying again, he managed to get it inside.
"Can’t occupy all the space; need to leave some capacity just in case."
Ji Xinghuo observed the boulder; its shape was not streamlined enough, which would increase air resistance and prevent it from reaching theoretical speed during the fall.
He drew out Lei Chi, and amidst a tinkling of cutting sounds,
quickly fashioned the boulder roughly into a sphere; even its surface became smoother, and its weight decreased to about ten tons.
He placed it into the Dimension Stomach, which occupied about three cubic meters of space.
"Just right."
Ji Xinghuo walked to the edge of the cliff, just one step away from testing how to collect the falling boulder into his Dimension Stomach.
He strapped the parachute to his back, Holy Scale Armor surfaced on his body, and he took several deep breaths.
Then, he jumped off the cliff.
The fierce wind howled, and Ji Xinghuo, in free fall, kept his eyes fixed on the river surface below that was rapidly approaching, resembling a giant wall crashing toward him without end.
His right eye’s light circle flashed, activating the Myriad Phenomena.
The falling speed increased, and around the 20-second mark, only a few hundred meters from the ground, Ji Xinghuo finally deployed his parachute, slightly reducing his speed, but still splashed directly into the river, causing a massive splash as he plunged under the water.
For an ordinary person, at such a rapid descent speed, even hitting water could have been fatal.
But for Ji Xinghuo, it was merely a minor problem.
He swiftly surfaced, gazing up at the straight cliff face with a smile on his face.
After about ten seconds, a small black dot fell from the sky, light as a feather, into the water; it was Qing Hong, which had also jumped down following him.
"One more time!"
Ji Xinghuo rode Qing Hong back up to the cliff, strapped on his parachute, activated the Holy Scale Armor, and took the ten-ton boulder from the Dimension Stomach, placing it at the cliff’s edge. After making all preparations, he pushed hard, and the boulder began its descent.
He jumped down with the boulder, body pressing close above it, both dropping at high speed.
5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds...
The boulder’s falling speed increased, getting closer to the river surface.
It was like a meteor falling from the sky!
Still a hundred meters above the river surface, Ji Xinghuo’s hand staying pressed against the boulder, on impulse, he collected the rapidly falling boulder into his Dimension Stomach.
The boulder vanished, and he immediately deployed his parachute, slowed his descent, and landed in the water.
Climbing out from the chilly river onto the shore, Ji Xinghuo’s face was filled with irrepressible mirth: "Artificial meteor! I did it!"
