Chapter 107 - 74 Dagon People
Chapter 107: Chapter 74 Dagon People
Ren Mian and her two companions all changed their expressions slightly as she asked, "How many?"
"One Dagon person, one vine spirit, and three Goraks," Ji Xinghuo described the situation at the outpost, "No Stone Lizard People."
Ren Mian looked towards the position of the outpost but was blocked by the trees. Her voice rose in her mind, "This is a hunting team, especially hunting our humans. Stone Lizard people are clumsy and slow, not good for hiding, so they usually don’t bring Stone Lizard People along."
"Shall we attack?" Chi Zhonglin asked.
"Scout out the area near this outpost first, if there’s no problem, then we’ll make our move," Ren Mian was very cautious.
Ji Xinghuo knew that besides this outpost, there were no other enemies.
Still, he led the team around the outpost.
Ren Mian found several "Hissing Grass" plants under the trees, which would emit a low-frequency sound wave if any beast or human passed by—most humans and beasts couldn’t hear it, but the keen-eared Goraks and vine spirits could, alerting them to approaching prey.
"Move closer before we strike."
Having identified the Hissing Grass, everyone carefully avoided it so as not to alert the enemy.
Jiangnan Caiyi activated the Phantom Pearl, concealing everyone’s appearance as they moved slowly under the trees, getting closer and closer to the outpost.
Ji Xinghuo was constantly aware of any movement from the outpost, but the enemy had not detected them.
Finally, the four of them stopped behind a large tree, just over a hundred meters from the outpost—a shadow could be seen in the tree canopy, not more than ten square meters.
The outpost was hidden in dense branches and leaves, and if it weren’t for Ji Xinghuo’s early discovery, they would have unknowingly fallen into a trap.
Observing the enemy, Ji Xinghuo proposed, "Sister Ren, how about I take action from another direction first to draw them out, and then you all launch a side attack?"
"Okay."
Ren Mian agreed after a few seconds of consideration.
The five enemies at this outpost weren’t particularly strong, and even a direct assault would not pose much of a problem, but Ji Xinghuo’s suggestion was safer.
Ji Xinghuo activated his Stealth Ring and left the range of the Phantom Pearl’s cover, silently making his way around to the other side of the outpost, about a hundred meters away.
Any further, and he would be beyond the range of the Mind Link.
"I’m in position," Ji Xinghuo reminded his three teammates in his mind.
"Begin."
Ji Xinghuo drew out an explosive flame arrow, nocked it on his Dragon Falcon Eagle Bow, and pulled back the string, mentally counting down, "Three, two, one!"
A red light suddenly shot out at a tricky angle, arcing upwards and passing through the gaps in the tree trunks in a blink of an eye, entering the outpost through the gaps in the branches and exploding inside.
Boom!
High-temperature flames erupted inside the outpost, violently shaking the large tree in which it was housed, setting the branches and leaves on fire, and a low roar echoed out.
Three small figures cried out in pain as they flew out.
They were just over a meter tall, with bodies divided into three sections: head, thorax, and abdomen, and had six insect-like limbs covered with a chitinous layer. Two pairs of thin wing membranes spread on their backs would normally allow them to fly, but now, their bodies were ablaze with flames, and they fell to the ground as soon as they escaped the outpost.
One explosive flame arrow was enough to rob the three Goraks of their ability to fly.
As they screamed shrilly, one of the Goraks pointed towards Ji Xinghuo’s position and let out a piercing cry.
Ji Xinghuo was pulling back the bowstring for a second shot when he saw an agile blue-green figure leap towards him from the trees.
"A Dagon person!"
For the first time, he got a close look at Earth’s greatest enemy and took an extra moment to observe.
The Dagon people are a typical humanoid race, with limbs, bodies, and heads, that walk upright. They stand about one meter seventy tall, with blue and green patterned skin that’s tough and smooth. Their palms have only four fingers, connected by webbing, and they have segmented leg joints in three sections and a flexible tail like a monkey’s at their backs.
The biggest difference between the Dagon people and humans lies in their heads.
They have no hair, and their scalps are as smooth as the rest of their skin. Their faces feature a pair of round eyes with no eyebrows or eyelashes, and behind their brains is a fin-like spine crest. Their large, dark green eyes, one on the left and one on the right, are a little higher up in the middle of their faces, separated by a raised vertical bone ridge that connects to the spine crest at the back, splitting the two eyes apart. When their mouths are closed, there’s only a narrow slit.
The Dagon people do not have noses but breathe through gill-like organs on either side of their thick necks.
Their body structure is fish-like.
In fact, on their mother planet, the Dagon people spend most of their time living in water. They excel at swimming and can breathe underwater.
The intelligence of the Dagon people is highly developed. Naturally adept at water, their Ability leans towards the Professional Template "Water Master," although they are much more formidable.
In addition to controlling water, Dagon people have also mastered the Ice Element Ability.
At the moment, this Dagon person was covered with a layer of ice armor with revolving water around it, protecting him from the flame damage.
His vision was strong as he pinpointed Ji Xinghuo’s location while leaping through the air, pointing his right hand in Ji Xinghuo’s direction.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Water vapor instantly condensed into several transparent ice knives, slashing toward him as swiftly as arrows.
At the same time, a thick fog spread around him, enveloping dozens of meters of the forest in haze, creating a favorable battle environment for himself.
Ji Xinghuo didn’t move an inch but released his second arrow.
The arrow was a flash.
The newly spread mist was pierced by a thin gap, and the Titanium Aluminum Alloy Arrow hit the leaping Dagon person right in his large eye.
With a bang, the Dagon person’s body slammed to the ground, his head, exploded by the shot, oozing pale blue blood.
And the ice knives he fired before he died didn’t even touch a piece of Ji Xinghuo’s clothing.
Pop, pop, pop!
Ji Xinghuo swiftly pulled the bowstring, firing three arrows in rapid succession, and killed three shrieking, fleeing Goraks. The forest instantly became quiet.
At that moment, the entire outpost on the tree came to life, with hundreds of branches and vines acting like limbs, breaking free from the burning canopy and crashing to the ground, rapidly rolling towards Ji Xinghuo’s position, while the surrounding plants grew wildly, engulfing the area like a tide.
"Vine Spirit!"
Ji Xinghuo remained calm, even taking the time to observe this peculiar enemy.
The Vine Spirit was a half-animal, half-plant race, possessing intelligence and formidable individual strength. If it were not for their sparse numbers, the Dagon people would not have been able to defeat the Vine Spirits and become the rulers of Beiluo Shimen.
When the Dagon people went hunting in the Star Realm, each team would have a Vine Spirit.
They could quickly set up camp, heal their people, transform into mounts to carry teammates swiftly forward, and their combat power was also very strong.
The Vine Spirit’s weakness was fire.
At this moment, it absorbed the vegetation around it, its body swelling and transforming into a two-meter tall plant cheetah, charging at Ji Xinghuo.
Ji Xinghuo did not shoot arrows but just watched it approach.
"Ha!"
A loud shout erupted.
Chi Zhonglin’s figure appeared next to the Vine Spirit, muscles bulging, throwing his molten rock gun, now glowing red like fire.
The long spear flew over a hundred meters and instantly pierced through the plant cheetah the Vine Spirit had become, pinning it to the trunk of a large tree. The heat from the spear ignited flames.
It let out a cry of pain.
The vines contracted and writhed, reverting to their original form of a large mass of vine, climbing up the tree trunk.
Ji Xinghuo shot an explosive flame arrow, the fire bursting open, causing it to fall from the tree. The vines that made up its body were again burned away by half, decreasing its size. When the Vine Spirit suffered serious injuries, it would abandon the excess parts to protect its core.
Jiangnan Caiyi’s figure emerged beneath the tree, her blade flashing as she cut the Vine Spirit, now shrunk to about half a meter, into two pieces.
The piercing screams came to an abrupt halt.
The battle ended in less than ten seconds without any need for Ren Mian to take action.
The gap in strength between the two sides was too great, with the strongest Dagon people and Vine Spirits only at Third Rank, equivalent to Advanced Mutants. Having lost the initiative, they stood no chance at all.
Without any delay, Ren Mian commanded, "Collect their Alien Species."
The Beiluo Shimen Clan, when compared to Earth’s humanity, possessed a significant advantage: Over the hundreds of years since their entrance into the Star Realm, their genes evolved, and more and more clan members developed Abilities, eventually forming racial talents akin to those of the Star Realm’s Alien Races.
The Dagon people inherently have "underwater breathing," a single evolutionary life change would awaken "Water Gathering"; the Vine Spirits had "Plant Manipulation"; the Goraks "Sound Positioning."
Water Gathering is a Superior Ability, serving as the core Ability for the "Water Master."
Plant Manipulation is a quality Ability, slightly more effective than the Forest Patrol Clan’s Forest Language, but not as good as the Qingluo Heart Root.
Sound Positioning and underwater breathing are Basic Abilities, worth a bit of money.
Ji Xinghuo lightly touched each body but did not find any other Alien Species.
The Weapon Equipment on their bodies was not of much value, either. The Beiluo Shimen Clan, limited by the scarce resources of their Mother Star, lacked many key materials, so their technological level did not exceed Earth by much and in some respects, was even more backward.
After collecting the Alien Species, the team immediately retreated.
Chi Zhonglin led the way at the front, using his long spear to clear the grass and shrubs, and spoke with great satisfaction, "It would be great if more enemies like these came our way. If we kill more Beiluo Shimen people, our soldiers from Earth might die less on the battlefield in the future."
"They are just ordinary Outpost Soldiers, not of significant impact on the overall situation," Ren Mian shook his head and said.
However, Zhonglin disagreed, "Taking out one is still one less!"
Ren Mian fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "The real key that will decide the victory or defeat between Earth and Beiluo Shimen is which side’s High Rank powerhouses break their shackles first to give birth to a Shepherd Star Saint."
Ji Xinghuo’s heart was stirred at the words.
Shepherd Star Saint!
The path of evolution for Mutants is through successive life evolutions. The more evolutions, the higher the Rank, the stronger the strength.
Above Super Mutants were Legendary, and above Legendary were Heavenly Kings.
By the standards of the Star Realm nations, Heavenly Kings are at Sixth Rank. Even within the vastness of the Star Realm, Heavenly Kings are heavily influential, ruling over large territories and subjects.
However, a Heavenly King is still not enough to shake the foundations of the Star Realm nations. The real powers that dominate the Star Realm are the Seventh Rank powerhouses.
They are called Shepherd Star Saints!
As the name suggests, a Shepherd Star Saint can suppress an entire planet, which becomes their pasture, and the inhabitants of the planet, their sheep.
With the power to create or destroy life at will, one who could cover the skies with a hand!
A Shepherd Star Saint is a strong being who can create life miracles, yet breaking through from a Sixth Rank Heavenly King to Seventh Rank is a hundred times more difficult than all previous six bottlenecks combined.
In the more than a thousand years that the Beiluo Shimen Clan has been in the Star Realm, they have yet to give birth to a Shepherd Star Saint.
Of Earth’s 49 Heavenly Kings, only a few have the chance to attempt a breakthrough. But even then, the success rate is extremely slim.
Only when a real Shepherd Star Saint appears, does a Race truly secure its foothold in the Star Realm.
The Sky Feather Royal Court has three Shepherd Star Saints, which is why they can firmly rule over the Thousand Peak Abyss Forest and suppress the eight Alien Species within their territory.
"It’s tough..."
Chi Zhonglin sighed, "In my opinion, none of the current Heavenly Kings on Earth seem to have hope of breaking through to Seventh Rank. The Sixth Rank powerhouses of the Beiluo Shimen Clan aren’t much better. We still stand a chance against them. It could be centuries of combat without a decisive victory."
Ji Xinghuo felt the same way.
But Ren Mian let out a meaningful laugh, "That may not necessarily be the case."
