Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Poisonous! Highly Toxic!!
The stylist hired by the team was truly adept, as the clothes they purchased aligned perfectly with He Jinxia’s tastes. Each outfit was matched well, with most of them featuring an ancient style for autumn wear.
The moment He Jinxia stepped out in the clothing, Mrs. He was ecstatic, pulling He Jinxia to take several selfies together and boasting proudly that Jinxia had inherited all the good genes from both her and Mr. He.
That generous shower of compliments was rare enough to make He Jinxia blush.
The feeling of being praised by strangers versus family was different — Jinxia was the type who felt especially happy and accomplished when complimented by relatives.
On the second day of New Year’s Day, He Jinxia was dragged by Mrs. He to visit Aunt Rui.
Arriving at Aunt Rui’s residence early in the morning, although it was New Year’s Day, it already looked as though she was prepared for the grand celebration two months later.
Two festive red lanterns were hung by the villa door, which could actually hold lit candles, the doorstep was covered in a red carpet, and there were strings of red chili peppers hanging by the windows.
"Come on, make yourself at home. Jinxia, take whatever you want to eat. It’s New Year’s Day; it’s okay to indulge a bit more today!"
Aunt Rui warmly invited He Jinxia to the sofa to sit down and had the servants bring snacks, vegetables, and fruits.
As she spoke, she looked He Jinxia up and down, nodding her head uncontrollably, her face beaming with smiles.
Seeing a photo and the real person felt different. Now, upon a sudden glance, Aunt Rui grew more and more satisfied, regretting why she hadn’t given birth to a daughter.
"I see your brow is bright and clear like a mirror, plump and luminous. Your nasal root is full, rising straight into the palace of fate. Your eyes are long and expressive — you’re surely destined to be wealthy and blessed with both fortune and longevity!"
Aunt Rui tapped He Jinxia’s hand while praising her.
Mrs. He might not have understood, but He Jinxia got it all and laughed shyly with a slight bow of her head.
That smile revealed the plump "pillows" under her eyes.
Aunt Rui couldn’t help but praise again, "Those ’pillows’ are also known as the palace of children. Yours are lustrous and full, indicating that your future children will be very smart and capable. A sign of prosperous offspring and a lucky husband!"
He Jinxia’s face turned even redder.
Aunt Rui was too enthusiastic, more than she could handle. The compliments made her feel like she was the reincarnation of a divine child from under the Buddha’s seat!
She shifted her head slightly and sent out a plea for help to Mrs. He, who just chuckled happily, her eyes squinting with joy, completely missing the signal!
Just as He Jinxia was at a loss for words, a deep and rich male voice slowly came through, "Mom, can’t you change your way of praising people? A few days ago, when you met Aunt Zhuang’s daughter, you used the same routine."
Aunt Rui glared at her son, "Nonsense, when have I ever praised someone else for being good-looking?"
She turned back to He Jinxia and patted her hand, "Jinxia, don’t listen to his nonsense. In my eyes, you are the most beautiful."
Jinxia smiled shyly again, silently sweating internally, feeling even more pressured...
Fortunately, Aunt Rui was distracted by Sheng Yan’s interruption and did not continue to talk about her facial features. After asking about Jinxia’s work and health, she stood up and pulled Mrs. He to the kitchen to have a look.
He Jinxia watched as the two mothers walked away arm in arm, and she heaved a sigh of relief in her heart.
"Feeling nervous?" Sheng Yan’s voice faintly reached her ears.
Facing Sheng Yan, Jinxia felt much more at ease. Their relationship had made great strides with each lesson, and they had stepped into the realm of friendship.
Thinking of something, she chuckled softly and murmured in a low voice, "Too enthusiastic."
The girl’s voice was not as crisp as usual but soft and sticky, with a hint of huskiness. The deliberately subdued tone was shy with a touch of timidity. Sheng Yan listened, and his heart couldn’t help but race a little faster.
He frowned, feeling odd, and immediately averted his gaze.
Catching a glimpse of Sheng Yan frowning from the corner of her eye, Jinxia quickly lifted her head and asked worriedly, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Caught off guard, Sheng Yan didn’t respond.
Jinxia frowned slightly, moved a bit closer, and raised her voice, "Master!"
Sheng Yan snapped back to reality, looked up, and met He Jinxia’s worried gaze, like a lake rippled by the wind in glittering spring water.
"Are you feeling unwell? You look a bit pale," she said.
His heart skipped a beat, that strange feeling surfacing again.
The Great Movie King Sheng, however, displayed his excellent acting skills, his brows relaxed, and he said with composure, "No, just thinking about some things."
He Jinxia gave an "Oh" and withdrew her gaze.
Soon the hall fell quiet, both lost in their thoughts.
One was pondering why his body was reacting strangely and was also considering He Jinxia’s work matters but feared asking too much might seem nosy.
The other was wondering whether to tell the man about signing a Quasi-A-level contract, worried if he might think she was getting too proud and full of herself.
Unknowingly, they had grown so familiar with each other that they started to consider things from the other’s perspective.
At that moment, tiny snowflakes began to drift from the sky outside the window, and within a few minutes, they fell more heavily, showering down.
Inside the hall, He Jinxia felt a little stuffy sitting there and decided to get a glass of water, but as she turned her head, she saw the snowflakes by the window.
She paused, her eyes lighting up, "Is it snowing?"
Sheng Yan also turned to look and had just noticed a few snowflakes when a shadow dashed past him; He Jinxia couldn’t wait and rushed outside.
The door opened and a gust of cold air surged in, making Sheng Yan, still inside the living room, feel the chill.
He frowned and a touch of disapproval flashed through his eyes—why would He Jinxia head out into the cold just like that, without proper attire?
Subconsciously, he stood up, followed her out, and grabbed their overcoats at the entrance before stepping outside.
Upon exiting, he saw He Jinxia standing in the middle of the courtyard, looking up curiously at the sky, reaching out her hands to catch the falling snowflakes.
"He Jinxia," Sheng Yan called out firmly.
He Jinxia, hearing his voice, turned and gave Sheng Yan a radiant smile, her eyes sparkling as if holding a thousand stars, causing him to pause once more.
"It’s snowing!" she exclaimed joyfully to Sheng Yan.
Sheng Yan snapped out of it, marched over with a stern face, handed her the overcoat, and said expressionlessly,
"Yes, it is snowing, but don’t you feel cold? As an artist, you should learn to take care of your health. You could easily catch a cold this way, lose your voice, and then acting would be—"
"I get it, I get it, no need to go on, why are you more nagging than my mom?" He Jinxia mumbled, interrupting him and quickly putting on the overcoat.
Sheng Yan was at a loss for words, feeling an absurd sense rise within—him, nagging?
He took a deep breath, shot a glance at He Jinxia, and thought he must be crazy to have come out to give her a coat!
Just as he was about to turn and leave, suddenly, his arm was grabbed, and He Jinxia pulled him toward another spot, "Let’s go over there, it seems the snow is thicker. Let’s build a snow castle!"
Caught off guard, Sheng Yan was helplessly dragged away.
By the time he regained his senses, he was already squatting down idiotically, shaping something out of snow with He Jinxia.
Sheng Yan silently observed the snowball in his hand, his mind sinking into contemplation, as it seemed he had never done something like making snowballs since he was a child.
He Jinxia’s urging voice reached his ears, "Sheng Yan, are you done yet?"
Soon, Sheng Yan’s deep and mellow voice responded, "Done, here you go."
As he looked at the brilliant smile unfurling on He Jinxia’s face, a shadow crossed Sheng Yan’s eyes, and he affirmed to himself—
He Jinxia was toxic, deadly toxic!!
