Chapter 400: Chapter 401 A Belated Apology

Three hours later, the plane arrived on time at Huaxia Imperial City Airport.

He Jinxia’s whereabouts were not disclosed, and many people thought she would spend the National Day holiday in M-country, including the media, which is why there were no paparazzi squatting at the airport today, allowing He Jinxia and her companions to leave quietly, safely, and swiftly.

Once she got into the car, she powered on her phone.

Her phone connected to the domestic signal, and a flood of messages came pouring in. Her WeChat was almost overwhelmed with messages from other celebrities, ranging from holiday greetings to casual chats.

The first thing He Jinxia did was to check the missed calls in her contact list, where she found that Meng Wan had called her more than thirty times, starting from the day she flew to M-country, with the last call coming in this morning.

After thinking it over, she immediately called back.

The phone rang for a long time, so long that she thought no one would pick up and was about to hang up, when suddenly, the call connected from the other end.

Meng Wan’s voice, slightly weary and hoarse, came through, "Hello, Jinxia."

He Jinxia asked softly and gently, "I’ve just flown back from M-country and have just gotten off the plane. I saw your news as soon as I did. Are you okay?"

Meng Wan fell silent.

After a long while, her voice slowly came through, "Jinxia, let’s meet up. There are some things I want to talk to you about."

He Jinxia pondered for a moment, then agreed, "Okay."

Meng Wan’s family was wealthy, and their family business was somewhat famous abroad. Even though she became a celebrity and earned her own money, her family always treated her as if she hadn’t grown up, making sure that the annual inquiries for her wellbeing were indispensable, as well as the pocket money.

Every year, the pocket money Meng Wan received from her parents and elder brothers remained largely untouched in her card. When she finally wanted to use it and checked the balance, she was instantly shocked.

Returning the money... that was out of the question. Her parents would instead scold her for acting estranged from them.

Meng Wan felt awkward holding onto such a large sum of money, and after much deliberation, she decided to buy a very private apartment in Imperial City. She told no one about this, not even her agent, Sister Ying.

He Jinxia was the first artist to step into Meng Wan’s apartment.

She arrived on the floor where the apartment was located. There were three apartments in total, one of which had its door already open. He Jinxia pushed the door and entered, seeing Meng Wan sitting in the living room.

Meng Wan looked haggard, with dark circles under her eyes, curled up, clutching herself tightly, and looking very insecure.

He Jinxia intentionally knocked on the door. Meng Wan suddenly heard the noise, jolted violently, and was startled.

She looked up nervously, and upon seeing He Jinxia, the wariness on her face disappeared.

"If you’re scared, why did you leave the door so carelessly open?"

He Jinxia sat in front of her and handed her a cup of milk tea she had brought from outside.

"I rushed out and didn’t have time to buy any fruit. Congratulations on purchasing the apartment here in Imperial City."

A bitter smile crept onto Meng Wan’s face as she let her head hang down, "It’s not like I earned the money to buy it myself, what’s there to congratulate me on?"

He Jinxia helped her insert the straw and pushed the milk tea in front of her, "Don’t be so bitter and resentful, relying on your parents is nothing to be ashamed of. Out in the world, who doesn’t rely on connections and networks to make their way? Don’t you like drinking milk tea? Go on, drink up. If one cup doesn’t solve a bad mood, then have two!"

Meng Wan laughed with a "pfft" and started to drink the milk tea.

He Jinxia watched her gently, idly checking out the decor in her apartment, waiting for Meng Wan to start the conversation.

After a while, Meng Wan finally said, "Aren’t you going to ask why I left JY?"

He Jinxia turned to look at her, seriously responding, "You’re an adult now, with your own thoughts. I believe you made this decision after careful consideration."

Meng Wan let out a self-deprecating snort, her emotions sinking, "Jinxia, you really have changed a lot, for the better. Since you left the group, not only has your career improved, but your personality has become more magnanimous as well. And me? In their eyes, I’ll always be the child who loves to play and never grows up."

He Jinxia: "Staying childlike is not necessarily a bad thing. If given the choice, who would actually want to grow up?"

Meng Wan was taken aback by her question, murmuring softly, "Yeah, who would actually want to grow up."

When she was young, she couldn’t wait to grow up, especially hating when her parents would say, "You’re still young, you don’t understand."

Only when she reached the age of her parents did she realize that after seeing all life has to offer, the carefree days of childhood were the happiest. All she had to think about was what to eat, play, and want every day, without worrying about anything else.

"Jinxia, during the recording of the show, I heard everything you said to my parents."

Meng Wan lowered her gaze, speaking quietly, "At that time, I wanted to talk to you."

"I was so lost. I thought I was working really hard to become a star, but why did my parents always think I was just playing around? I felt they didn’t understand me, which is why I never wanted to go back."

"But then I heard what you said, and upon reflection, I realized you were right. JY is no longer the JY it used to be. The team I loved and was eager to fight for my whole life was the JY that was formed five years ago, not the JY of today."

"These years, I’ve become increasingly exhausted at JY. In the earlier years, the days when the few of us were together were really happy, even though we weren’t famous then, and we had more activities than now, barely getting by and sometimes even losing money."

"Now JY has everything. We’ve become famous, the activities we take on are not as hectic, and they’re of higher quality. We have a lot of private time and earn more. However, everyone has their own ideas now, no longer as straightforward as before. Each person keeps their thoughts to themselves, treating others like fools."

Meng Wan exhaled sharply, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked up at her, "Jinxia, do I seem very foolish to you?"

He Jinxia thought for a moment and shook her head, "No one has the right to call you foolish for giving your all to something you love."

Tears streamed down Meng Wan’s cheeks as she choked up, "But I’ve tried so hard for so long. The group I thought I could devote my life to has turned out to be so dark. All my persistence has become a joke. This isn’t the JY I want to stay in!"

Quickly standing up, Meng Wan walked over and hugged He Jinxia tightly, repeatedly apologizing to her.

"I’m sorry, Jinxia, I had no idea they would do that to you, Jinxia, I’m so sorry! I didn’t know anything. If I had known, I would never have let them drug you, I’m really sorry..."
