Chapter 364: Chapter 365 Why Don’t You Go Rob Someone?!
On the other side, after finishing their late-night snack, Cheng Xiaohua continued to drive and soon they arrived at Dongting Lake Garden.
Sheng Yan and He Jinxia got out of the car, and considering it was very late, they didn’t talk much and simply said "goodbye" to each other before parting ways.
When He Jinxia used her fingerprint to open the front door, she found that the lights inside were still blazing.
She paused in surprise and quickly took off her shoes and walked in, only to see Mrs. He sitting on the sofa in the living room, looking down at her phone, seemingly lost in thought.
"Mom?" she called out softly.
Mrs. He was startled back to reality and looked up, "Oh, you’re back, why did you come back so late today?"
He Jinxia felt that Mrs. He was preoccupied with something and tried to use a cheerful tone, "I participated in a program recording as a special guest today, didn’t I tell you about it? The competition started at six in the evening, and it was already ten by the time everything finished, then we went out for a late-night gathering."
Mrs. He, "Oh, I remember now, it’s ’Music Genius,’ right? I’ve seen a few episodes of that show, those kids really train hard."
He Jinxia didn’t correct Mrs. He’s mistake and quickly nodded in agreement, "Yes, they train very hard!"
Mrs. He sighed, "Making money is not that easy. You celebrities seem to make a lot, but every day you have to go to events. If you have a role in a production, you’re stuck on set for months on end, almost cut off from the world, and the rare times you come out, you still have to attend events. Your workload is huge, it’s not easy for you either!"
He Jinxia shook her head, "Actually, it’s not really that significant. The work might be tiring, but not as much as construction workers, and besides, we are well-compensated, so the hard work is worth it."
Otherwise, why would there be the saying "If you want to get rich quick, become a celebrity"?
After thinking for a while, she tentatively asked, "Mom, why aren’t you sleeping?"
Mrs. He suddenly fell silent.
After quite a lengthy pause, Mrs. He finally spoke, "This afternoon, your aunt called and scolded you."
He Jinxia’s expression turned slightly cold, "Did they complain to you?"
Mrs. He first shook her head, then nodded, looking at her daughter at a loss for words.
Eventually, it was Mrs. He who broke the silence first, "Jinxia, your aunt...sigh, actually your aunt had already asked to borrow money from me before, starting with a few hundred, then a few thousand, and later tens of thousands, always saying she would pay me back."
"The last time she asked to borrow a hundred thousand, to be honest, I didn’t have the money to lend her, so I told her to pay back the money first, and that I would lend her after she paid her debts. Your aunt didn’t respond, and after that time, she never asked me for money again."
Mrs. He found it hard to say, stammering slightly, "I never expected she would turn to you to borrow money."
He Jinxia didn’t say anything, but counter-questioned, "Do you know how much they wanted to borrow from me?"
Mrs. He’s face showed a moment of hesitation and she shook her head.
He Jinxia thought as much, knowing Mrs. He well enough to realize that if she had known how much He Hui and the others intended to borrow, her attitude would not be like it was now.
"They started by asking me for one million."
This remark was like a thunderbolt, crashing down hard into the heart of Mrs. He. Her eyes widened in disbelief, "A million? Why don’t they just rob us!"
He Jinxia: "When they didn’t get the million they asked for, He Hui demanded I give her seven hundred thousand, threatening to go to the paparazzi and spill the beans. She threatened to say that I’m ungrateful and have kicked away my poor relatives after becoming famous and getting rich."
Mrs. He’s face turned red with anger, and she stood up abruptly, looking as if she was about to go pick a fight.
"Seven hundred thousand! Why don’t they just rob us? Why should my daughter lend them seven hundred thousand for no reason!"
He Jinxia also stood up and took Mrs. He’s hand, calming her, "Mom, their mouths are theirs; even if we go, can we seal their mouths? Don’t be angry."
Mrs. He furrowed her brows, "I can’t stand it. This afternoon He Hui called me, relentlessly insulting you, calling you heartless and ungrateful. She said you had no conscience. I thought she came to you because I refused to lend her a hundred thousand last time, but I didn’t expect her to ask you for seven hundred thousand!"
"Yes, she brought up your dad, but from his childhood to his school tuition and book fees, didn’t he earn them all by working part-time? He only ate at her place once, and she got married when your dad was fifteen. Your dad joined the army at eighteen, and she never lacked anything good. What does she expect in return?"
"Even if we weren’t family, your dad has sent them so many nice things over the years, and also gave money during the holidays. We’ve already returned the favor. If it were family, you wouldn’t even count these; it’s what’s expected. Nobody owes anybody anything!"
"I gave her the supermarket and lent her no less than a hundred thousand. Why should you be considered heartless for not lending them seven hundred thousand? I, I, I..."
Seeing Mrs. He getting more and more worked up, He Jinxia quickly shook her arm, comforting her, "Mom, don’t be angry, take it easy. They’re not worth upsetting yourself over."
Mrs. He felt the same, but the thought of He Hui asking Jinxia for seven hundred thousand made her blood boil. Did they think their home was an ATM?
Jinxia is indeed a celebrity, and earning a lot is one thing, but she doesn’t owe He Hui and her family!
If there was borrowing and returning it might be bearable, but He Hui has been borrowing money for months without paying it back, which made Mrs. He completely realize what kind of people they were. Why should she just give He Hui money for nothing?
Especially considering that without the money, He Hui had even threatened Jinxia with going public. Without saying a word, Mrs. He knew this would become a scandal for Jinxia and tarnish her career. That dreadful woman, she’s trying to ruin Jinxia!
Mrs. He couldn’t stand it, and the more she thought about it, the more suffocated she felt. She picked up her phone, intending to call He Hui and give her a piece of her mind.
He Jinxia stopped her and with much persuasion and conspiracy theories, managed to convince Mrs. He not to make the call.
By the time He Jinxia had coaxed Mrs. He back to her room, it was already the wee hours of the morning.
He Jinxia rubbed her throbbing temples, pondering strategies to deal with He Hui. Once she had a plan, she went straight to sleep.
While she peacefully fell asleep, the people at Precious Cuisine Square had just called it a night.
Zhang Yingru had seen off the celebrities and students, one by one, into their cars, and turned to see the girls in the private room, nearly all of them tipsy, which gave her a headache.
She enlisted the few who were relatively sober to help the others, assisting each one with difficulty into the car.
After driving them to the staff dormitory building and helping the girls into the dorms, Zhang Yingru heaved a sigh of relief.
As she turned to leave, Li Zimu noticed and immediately followed her.
