Chapter 347: Chapter 348: Concert Guest
He Jinxia suddenly felt a bit stifled in her heart, as if she understood something.
Yang Xingxin was not unaware that Zhang Yingru was deliberately suppressing her; it’s just that she hadn’t minded it in the past. Explaining now was an attempt to make amends and dispel any unpleasantness between them.
In fact, Yang Xingxin didn’t need to explain these things to her at all. Even though she was past her peak, she was still a top-tier celebrity with a large number of fans supporting her.
Approaching her proactively now might just be a way to reduce her enemies in the industry so that she could stay longer.
He Jinxia’s throat moved slightly, wanting to say something, yet not knowing what to say.
Just then, a staff member called her to continue her dance rehearsal on stage, so He Jinxia took the opportunity to leave.
Female stars in the industry live off their youth; each day less is a day lost, unlike male stars. Comforting words seem too fake; it’s better to say nothing. Perhaps Yang Xingxin would feel a bit better about it.
The second show was He Jinxia’s solo dance performance. The assistant director paid special attention to He Jinxia’s performance. Although she was not dressed in her performance costume, just in practice attire, her dance moves were still noticeable.
The assistant director couldn’t help but nod. If her agent hadn’t mentioned that He Jinxia had just learned this dance, he would have thought she had been practicing it for a month, as her performance looked very skilled.
Now, upon a closer look, the lighting still needed to be adjusted; it shouldn’t be too dazzling, but rather soft, to avoid overshadowing He Jinxia’s dance moves.
After rehearsing the dance twice, He Jinxia ended today’s rehearsal. Yang Xingxin was waiting at the stage exit and walked back to the dressing room with her, inviting her to an event.
"Knowing you would come as my special guest, I’ve been wanting to invite you to collaborate, but we never got to meet to discuss it. You and I are both busy, and we never see each other at the company. Now, since we’ve met, I was wondering if you’d be free in October to be a guest at my concert?"
Yang Xingxin asked with a smile.
He Jinxia was initially flustered upon hearing that.
A concert?
Back in the JY girl group, even the main roles didn’t get to participate in concerts. And now, as an actress, she could still be a guest at a concert?
As she pondered, Yang Xingxin continued, "However, it would be a bit of an imposition. If you come, you can only sing my songs, not JY’s. Do you have time to come?"
He Jinxia’s heart skipped a beat, almost instantly wanting to agree.
She purely felt that joining the concert would elevate her status and broaden her image. If it were asking her to host a concert or participate in a music variety show, she wouldn’t be keen, as she wasn’t a professional singer, but primarily an actress.
But to casually appear as a guest and sing a few songs was manageable and wouldn’t be a bother.
He Jinxia was silent for a while, allowing her emotions to settle, before saying, "I need to ask my agent."
Yang Xingxin didn’t expect her to agree on the spot, "Okay, I’ll send you a formal invitation when I get back. I hope you can make it. I’m counting on you to boost my ticket sales."
The last remark was clearly teasing, as even if Yang Xingxin’s popularity had waned, her concert tickets would certainly sell.
He Jinxia smiled and replied, "Sister Yang, you are too modest."
The two chatted and laughed as they returned to the dressing room, where the other five mentors were all present; Li Zimu and Meng Wan were mentors representing groups, while the others were solo mentors, including one male mentor.
He Jinxia greeted each mentor one by one, as well as the heavyweight special guests brought by the other mentors, leaving her no time for a private chat with Meng Wan.
Meng Wan, sitting in a corner of the sofa, felt envious, "Jinxia is incredible; those mentors are willing to greet her and even share their stage experience with her."
Li Zimu sat beside her, hands clutching a pillow tightly, controlling himself not to look at He Jinxia.
For some reason, as He Jinxia grew more and more popular, her sense of unease had intensified, fearing that He Jinxia would discover what she and Zhang Yingru had done.
He Jinxia’s rise had been too swift.
Since she had successfully lost weight, she had rocketed to stardom. Even though she hated to admit it, she had to admit that JY girls group had been left far behind by her.
Being left farther and farther behind didn’t matter, but Li Zimu feared, really feared that she would settle scores after autumn!
She lowered her gaze, her body involuntarily shivering.
Meng Wan noticed that her face looked off and asked, "What’s wrong, do you feel unwell?"
Li Zimu shook her head and whispered softly, "No."
After the rehearsal ended, He Jinxia, having exchanged pleasantries with the seniors, didn’t stay longer. She went back to the dance studio of Tonghua Entertainment to continue practicing. Before leaving, she didn’t specifically greet Meng Wan and Li Zimu and had no interaction with them.
That evening, after He Jinxia finished practicing, she took out her phone and saw many messages from Meng Wan.
Reading from the top, she first expressed her surprise at also participating in the program and asked her some questions about maintaining her health. Her character was just as He Jinxia remembered, careless, unpretentious, lively, and cheerful.
He Jinxia couldn’t help but zone out, in the original host’s memory, she really hated Meng Wan.
Because Meng Wan was the complete opposite of the original host.
Meng Wan had the audacity to freely enjoy her youth, like the blazing sun, untroubled by livelihood or the fear of being dropped from the group. She was the first to jump into games, the first to apologize when something went wrong, always so straightforward and open-hearted.
While the original host was like moss in a dark, damp corner, watching the members of the girl group as an outsider, silently festering and decaying.
As the memories reached this point, He Jinxia lightly shook her head, no longer dwelling on these distressing thoughts.
"Buzz!" Her phone vibrated with a message. Looking down, it was Meng Wan sending another message:
Meng Wan: [Dead, Jinxia, my parents said they want to come and watch my performance[scary][scary]]
He Jinxia’s eyes narrowed, and she asked via voice message, "Watch what performance?"
Meng Wan, who had been with the other members of JY girls group, found an excuse to leave upon receiving a message from Jinxia.
Li Zimu watched her leave and nudged her roommate, Wen Ningning, asking softly, "How has Meng Wan been recently?"
A trace of confusion flashed across Wen Ningning’s eyes, "What do you mean, ’how has she been’? She’s the same as always, heartless, eats her food, plays her games, without a sense of collective honor."
Li Zimu’s eyebrows knitted together, "Has she mentioned anything about her family to you?"
Wen Ningning shook her head, "No.
Another group member overheard their conversation and habitually said, "Ningning, you really need to watch over Meng Wan. Besides the leader, you are the best speaker in the team. Make sure Meng Wan doesn’t go home. She’s very popular in the group; if she leaves, the group’s popularity will definitely decline."
Wen Ningning nodded, "Don’t worry, I’m on it. Wanwan doesn’t want to go back either; she thinks being a star and flying everywhere is much more fun than going home."
Someone sneered but said nothing.
In the whole group, it seemed that only Meng Wan approached being a star with a playful heart.
