Chapter 285 - 286: Could it be... Lesbian?
Chapter 285: Chapter 286: Could it be... Lesbian?
Cheng Xiaohua felt certain in her heart, but hesitated on the surface, stammering, "Just now, I, I suddenly thought of something."
Her words paused, and she spoke with even more entanglement, "Do you think, could Jinxia be into girls?"
The atmosphere instantly became frigid.
Caw, caw, caw... It was as if three crows appeared in the sky, flying mournfully.
"Impossible." Luo You’s face turned ugly, "Don’t overthink it, Jinxia isn’t a lesbian."
Tony quickly nodded, "Right, right, right, I haven’t sensed any such vibe from her at all."
Cheng Xiaohua pursed her lips, muttering softly, "But I haven’t seen her take an interest in men either, on the contrary, she’s very gentle with girls."
Luo You and Tony: "..." Could it really be so?
Luo You’s mouth twitched, and he reached up to rub his temples, quickly steering the conversation away from this bizarre topic.
"Alright, let’s put aside the question of Jinxia’s sexual orientation for now and assume she’s got a ’male’ friend. We’re here to discuss how to deal with this, but we forgot to consider one thing, and that is Jinxia’s thoughts."
Luo You paused, then said, "If Jinxia were here, she probably wouldn’t agree to generate a scandal with Zhang You."
He said with a headache, "One reason is, from what I’ve seen, she values her boyfriend a lot. Out of this consideration, she would likely be uncomfortable promoting a scandal with another man, and her boyfriend wouldn’t be comfortable with it either."
"On the other hand, Jinxia has emphasized to me many times that she wants to be known as a talented actress. Her Weibo profile steams ’SPEAK WITH TALENT’, and those words are still hanging there!"
"Every fan or passerby who visits her profile can see this sentence. Out of the blue, relying on scandal to boost popularity would just be slapping her own face, wouldn’t it?"
"Don’t forget, although we are seeking to maximize benefits, we also need to consider Jinxia’s thoughts. After all, we are at her service. If she doesn’t want to do something, we can’t force her; we just need to fulfill our responsibilities."
The others nodded in agreement, endorsing the sentiment.
Zhang Dayou said, "So, let’s let Jinxia decide on this matter."
No one had objections, so Luo Dayou called He Jinxia right then and there.
As the team tossed the hot potato of the decision back to Jinxia after much discussion, Luo You planned to present her with all the pros and cons before passing the buck.
When he called, it was nearing midnight, and He Jinxia and Zhang Yuanyuan had both entered sweet slumber.
The sudden ringtone of the phone immediately woke them up.
He Jinxia, still groggy, picked up the call. Before she could speak, Luo You on the other end spilled the team’s analysis like spilling beans.
Upon hearing it was about handling the rumor with Zhang You, He Jinxia’s foggy brain instantly cleared up, and she listened intently.
After Luo You had finished speaking, he felt a sense of relief, casually planning to make a cup of tea while waiting for He Jinxia’s answer.
He didn’t have to wait long before He Jinxia’s firm voice came through, "Clarify it."
This answer wasn’t unexpected for Luo You.
He nodded, cautioning, "Okay, I’ll send you the statement tomorrow. Be careful during the recording of the show. Try to avoid any intimate behavior with Zhang You, like making eye contact or accidentally brushing fingers, if you can avoid it, do avoid it."
He Jinxia acknowledged, and her mind began to blur again.
Reality shows rely half on celebrities and half on post-production editing, and the editing direction is always scripted.
If the production team insisted on pairing her with Zhang You, no matter how far she tried to hide, it would be futile. Even if she were miles apart, the team could still draw a heart around you in post-production and pull you back in.
So, the biggest problem wasn’t with He Jinxia, nor with Zhang You, but with the production team.
Luo You knew this as well, which is why he reminded her because he couldn’t let go of his worries.
"Alright, you should get some sleep. I’m hanging up," Luo You said.
"Wait!"
In a daze, He Jinxia suddenly thought of something. She pried open her heavy eyelids, striving to clear her mind, and said, "Just release the statement, don’t wait until tomorrow. Have Brother Da You write it and post it on my Weibo right away."
She mumbled, "I’m afraid it might be too late. Gotta hang up now."
Without hearing He Jinxia’s voice again, Luo You had to abandon the idea of waiting until tomorrow to post it, turned over, and hurriedly worked with Zhang Dayou to get a statement out quickly.
This time, they didn’t care to check the reactions from netizens after the statement was released.
After all, it wasn’t intended to create a buzz on the search trending list, it wasn’t going to damage Jinxia’s reputation, and it wasn’t some bizarre trick. After posting, they quickly went back to their respective homes to rest.
The next morning, He Jinxia woke up ten minutes earlier than her alarm clock. She turned off the alarm before checking Weibo, only to see her latest post was made around half-past midnight.
Possibly because it was posted late and the topic wasn’t explosive, there weren’t many clicks or comments, and it barely made a ripple on the trending search list.
He Jinxia felt secure in her heart, feeling as though the dark clouds weighing on her had dissipated quite a bit, and her whole person became much more relaxed.
She lay staring blankly at the ceiling for several minutes, feeling fully awake, and prepared to get up.
Before getting out of bed, she subconsciously checked her phone again and her face suddenly stiffened, confused.
So, when exactly did she screenshot the Weibo post and send it to Sheng Yan? She had no idea.
Out of all the posts to screenshot, it had to be the one with the statement!
Even though the screenshot wasn’t complete, it still captured phrases like "Recently, there has been malicious fabrication online stating ’He Jinxia is Zhang You’s lover’, ’He Jinxia and Zhang You are in a relationship’, all of which are unfounded rumors," which were all too visible upon opening the photo.
It kind of looked like... she was preserving herself for Sheng Yan -_-||
This fleeting thought flashed through her mind, and it scared her.
Wanting to retract it, but seeing the message was already over 2 minutes old, she couldn’t perform the recall operation and could only stare helplessly at the phone screen.
A few minutes passed, and still no message from Sheng Yan’s side. He Jinxia felt a little relieved.
No message was a good thing; no message meant he hadn’t seen it.
But what difference did it make to her anxiety whether he saw it sooner rather than later?
She shivered, not allowing herself to think about it anymore, the more she thought about it, the more she felt disheartened.
In ancient times, she already knew some men’s ugly nature: to them, a wife is not as good as a concubine, a concubine not as good as a secret affair, and the allure of the unattainable... If something was too easily obtained, men often didn’t cherish it.
One should never overly praise men or reveal one’s feelings too openly; one has to keep them hanging to make it work.
Getting out of bed, He Jinxia went to freshen up.
When she came out, Zhang Yuanyuan was already sitting up in bed, her eyes bleary with sleep, and she looked at He Jinxia with a confused expression.
