Chapter 278 - 279 Guess
Chapter 278: Chapter 279 Guess
He Jinxia felt somewhat dazed, with flashbacks of her time in the girl group flitting through her mind.
For her, being in the group... at first was about being cute, but towards the end, she had become the "greenery + comedic" relief, perhaps.
Yes, she was like a piece of greenery amongst the flowers, not beautiful, existing only to set off the beauty of others.
Lost in her thoughts, Zhang Yingru had already approached with the nine members of the girl group and greeted her.
"Jinxia, long time no see, how have you been lately?" Zhang Yingru asked with a slight smile and a laugh in her eyes.
He Jinxia smiled lightly and humbly replied, "Sister Zhang, long time no see. I’ve been so busy lately that I don’t even have time for beauty sleep."
She glanced over her shoulder at the nine members behind her, only Li Zimu and Meng Wan waved and greeted her, while the rest of the group members remained indifferent.
Meng Wan seemed to want to say something, but upon catching Zhang Yingru’s gaze, she immediately stopped herself.
The atmosphere seemed a bit awkward, as former girl group members met and didn’t even exchange pleasantries.
Detecting the awkwardness, Zhang Yingru hurriedly said, "We have to leave for something else now, let’s talk more when we have time. You can always visit the dance studio reserved for JY when you’re resting, you know where it is, we always welcome you!"
He Jinxia nodded and cheerfully agreed.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Zhang Yingru left with the girl group immediately.
He Jinxia did not look back, but as she walked towards the door with Luo You, she slightly bowed her head, hiding the cold glint that flickered in her eyes.
Once they reached the car, as Luo You started the engine, He Jinxia suddenly said, "You mentioned before that a music variety show wanted to invite me as a special guest. Which one was it?"
Luo You thought for a moment and then found the memory, "Yes, ’Music Strongest Sound.’ The show has decent viewership rates. They contacted me the day before yesterday, hoping you could be the special guest mentor during the quarterfinals, to encourage the contestants, and perhaps perform a song, then watch the competition."
He Jinxia asked, "When is the recording?"
He furrowed his brows, uncertain, "I think it’s recorded around the twenties, I asked you about it before, didn’t you say you didn’t want to accept it?"
He Jinxia tapped her slender fingers lightly against her leg, a trace of contemplation crossing her brow, and instead of answering his question, she asked, "Are any of the JY girl group members mentors on that show?"
Luo You was certain on this point, "Yes, Li Zimu and Meng Wan are mentors."
He drove on, when a thought struck him, he blurted out, "Wait, you don’t want to go just because JY is in it, do you?"
A sly smile spread across He Jinxia’s face, revealing her full, rounded eye bags, "You guess."
Luo You: "..."
He Jinxia then added, "I’ll take up the special guest offer."
Luo You’s brow twisted, his expression serious, "Give me a reason."
He Jinxia looked at him with a beaming smile, "You guess."
Luo You: "..."
(╯‵□′)╯︵┻━┻, there’s no talking to her today!!
Barely managing to stop her agent from talking further, He Jinxia returned to Dongting Lake Garden under Luo You’s complex and frustrated gaze.
Some things are not unspeakable, but it is not yet time to speak of them.
The tangle with JY girl group, she wouldn’t talk about it until she got real evidence. Going on the variety show and sharing the stage with JY was just to confirm some of her own suspicions.
As for the grudge between her and JY, she wanted to resolve it herself and didn’t want others to get involved, so she didn’t want to tell Luo You about it.
Upon entering the room, a burst of laughter came from the living room.
As He Jinxia was changing her shoes in the entryway, she heard another burst of laughter along with some indistinct conversation.
Her eyes lit up, and she quickly walked in with her slippers, and sure enough, she saw Aunt Rui sitting in the living room.
Aunt Rui was having a laugh with Mrs. He, with the television turned on, showing "Small Bridge, Flowing Water, People," starring He Jinxia.
He Jinxia walked over and sweetly called out, "Mom, Aunt Rui!"
Aunt Rui looked up at her and happily praised, "I haven’t seen you for months, and Jinxia has become even more beautiful. Full face, straight eyebrows, rounded eye bags, a high nose, and an open forehead—you can tell at a glance she is a person of fortune."
Here we go again... He Jinxia felt a bit embarrassed inside. If Aunt Rui kept praising her like this, she would start to feel as if she were as perfect as an ethereal Immortal, blessed with every fortune.
And then descended to the Mortal World just to overcome a tribulation?
Aunt Rui took He Jinxia’s hand and carefully looked her over, sighing, "The only bad thing is that you seem to have lost weight. Being too thin is not good either; you look like skin and bones. Being plump is a sign of fortune; you should eat more."
He Jinxia quickly explained, "Aunt, I only lost about five pounds. The standard weight is 120 pounds, and I’m currently at 115. I haven’t lost much. It’s just that I had to slim down a bit for a role, so I lost a little."
Mrs. He chimed in at that moment, "She has indeed slimmed down. Her arms feel like they barely have any flesh on them. She needs to eat more and nourish herself."
A thought struck Aunt Rui, and her eyes brightened, "I know of a place that’s great at making nourishing soups and even delivers. How about we have a nourishing soup delivered to Jinxia every day?"
Mrs. He was somewhat tempted by the idea. She didn’t believe others when they said where you could get good nourishing soups, but Aunt Rui was different from others.
Aunt Rui had lived in Imperial City for years and had status. The people she met and the things she had access to were definitely different from ordinary people.
If even Aunt Rui said they were good, then the soups from that place were probably really excellent.
Mrs. He hesitated, "Isn’t it going to be expensive?"
Aunt Rui waved her hand dismissively, "Not at all. A portion of soup costs just tens of yuan, and I have a VIP membership card. I got it the year before last during a promotion. After I registered, Steamed Ninth Floor was supposed to send me a month’s worth of nourishing soups, but I haven’t used that quota yet."
"How fitting, since Jinxia needs to nourish herself now. We’ll use up that complimentary quota first. If there’s no effect after a month, we’ll just stop drinking it," Aunt Rui suggested.
Mrs. He nodded, "That sounds doable."
The entirely overlooked He Jinxia: "..."
The main subject is here; could you ask for her opinion?
A hint of helplessness crossed her face, but her heart was full of warmth.
Even if the nourishing soups were delivered, she wouldn’t be able to drink them daily. In a few days, she would be joining the recording of "Original Inn," which wasn’t located in Imperial City.
No matter how famous Steamed Ninth Floor was in Imperial City, it surely couldn’t deliver soups thousands of miles away to where she would be recording, could it?
Both Mrs. He and Aunt Rui knew this; the two caring mothers just wanted her to drink what she could, nourish what she could, hoping she would be healthy and free of illness.
Moved by their earnest concern, He Jinxia didn’t decline.
"Eat some fruit." A cool, low voice brushed by her ear, carrying a tingling magnetism with it.
