Chapter 219: Chapter 220 Is it a bit too fast?
He Jinxia had just hung up the phone when she turned around, only to be pinned against the wall by Sheng Yan.
Sheng Yan propped one hand on the wall, while the other gently lifted her chin, looking every bit the rogue. Yet, the hand on the wall was still holding a bag of breakfast. He Jinxia turned her head, and her face came right up against fried dough twists—it was a hilariously comic scene.
Unable to help herself, Jinxia let out a "Pfft" and laughed.
Seeing the smile on her face, Sheng Yan’s large, expressive phoenix eyes lit up. When she smiled, shallow dimples appeared on her cheeks, her lips red and teeth white—looking so, he felt an itch in his heart, a slight urge to... bite her.
Following his whims, he gently caressed Jinxia’s chin, and before the girl in front of him had time to react, he leaned down and pressed a light kiss on her lips.
It was early in the morning, a time when amorous thoughts easily ignited. Sheng Yan didn’t dare to kiss her too deeply, it was just a fleeting touch before he pressed his forehead against Jinxia’s, his low and husky voice naturally alluring:
"Did you miss me?"
Jinxia, pinned against the wall by him, felt her heart thump wildly, and it took her a moment to catch her breath. She lowered her eyes, speaking softly and with a hint of shyness, "Yes."
Sheng Yan hummed softly in response, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her into his embrace.
Mr. Sheng was in a good mood today, begrudgingly expressing his longing through a hug.
The two of them stayed in that position for quite some time, with Jinxia resting her head on Sheng Yan’s shoulder, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat; she felt especially at peace, like a floating weed that had finally found something to hold onto.
"Did you miss me?" Sheng Yan asked again.
Jinxia’s lips curled into a bright smile; this time, without any shyness, she openly said, "Yes!"
Sheng Yan’s fingers twitched, wanting to stroke Jinxia’s head, when he suddenly remembered he was still holding the breakfast in his hand. He hugged her tightly once more and then let her go: "Let’s go have breakfast."
Sheng Yan had arrived at three in the morning and hadn’t slept at all, having already eaten his breakfast.
While Jinxia was having her breakfast, he sat in the living room, picking up the script she had left on the table and browsing through it.
Every so often, Jinxia would look up and see Sheng Yan not far away, smile gently, and then continue with her meal, looking up at Sheng Yan time and again, repeating the cycle.
She even found herself a bit silly for acting like an infatuated schoolgirl. Perhaps this was the flavor of love?
In the early stages of a romance, every silly little gesture between lovers is sweet, and they revel in it, even though they know better.
After finishing breakfast, she walked over to Sheng Yan, just in time to see him massaging his temples, a hint of tiredness crossing his face. That’s when she noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes.
Jinxia asked, "Did you not rest well?"
Sheng Yan looked up at her and said succinctly, "It’s nothing."
Jinxia refused to let the matter go, grabbing his arm and questioning, "What time did you go to bed last night?"
Sheng Yan paused, not answering immediately.
Jinxia’s brow furrowed, "What time?"
Sheng Yan, seeing her insistence, finally said, "I didn’t sleep."
Jinxia seemed to think of something, guilt crossing her face, "Is it because of me? Did you come back overnight to see me? I know Film City is a bit far from here, you—"
"It’s not about you," Sheng Yan said without hesitation, taking her hand in his and speaking calmly, "It’s only right for a boyfriend to come and see his girlfriend. There’s no need for you to feel bad."
Jinxia hung her head, silent.
Observing this, Sheng Yan leaned down to kiss her cheek, unabashedly opportunistic, and said in all seriousness, "If you feel guilty, then kiss me more."
Jinxia: "..." How she wished she could kick this hypocrite, with his sanctimonious airs, away. What was she to do?
Sheng Yan chuckled and stroked her head, his cool voice suffused with warmth, "Really, it’s fine. Seeing you takes the tiredness away."
He Jinxia felt a flush of warmth rise to her cheeks, and her heart sped up once again.
Seeing her coy demeanor, Sheng Yan couldn’t help but want to tease her, stretching out his hand to pull her into his embrace as if he wanted to present the best things in the world to her.
"Are these your new scripts?" After hugging for a while, Sheng Yan asked.
Leaning on Sheng Yan’s shoulder, Jinxia fiddled with his slender hand and nodded, "Mm, Brother Luo wants me to pick one and start filming as soon as possible."
Sheng Yan’s brows slightly furrowed, "Aren’t you going to take a break?"
Jinxia sighed, "I’m awesome, so naturally, I have great responsibilities and no time to rest."
Sheng Yan chuckled softly and whispered, "Do you want to take a break? I’ll talk to him."
Jinxia shook her head, "No need, I have good momentum now, I should do more filming to establish my image. It’s normal to be busy at the beginning."
After pondering for a while, Sheng Yan agreed, "Alright, I’ll come visit you during filming whenever I’m free."
Sheng Yan visit the set?
Before Sheng Yan had actually made a visit, Jinxia could already imagine the earth-shaking, shocking scene at the crew when he arrived, so she quickly shook her head, "That’s not necessary, you don’t need to visit my set."
Sheng Yan raised an eyebrow, "Are you despising me?"
Jinxia continued shaking her head.
The man could be mercilessly caustic when he spoke, knowing full well that Jinxia didn’t mean that, and also why she didn’t want him to visit the set, yet he refused to play the ’understanding brother’ role.
"So, you think I’m not presentable?"
"No, of course not!"
"Then you think I’m not good enough?"
"Impossible, how could that be!"
"So, you think that—"
The infuriating mouth was suddenly silenced, and in an instant, the whole world became peaceful.
Jinxia tried to pull away after just a touch, but how could Sheng Yan let go of such an opportunity when the prey had come to him? He held her closer and deepened the kiss, only letting her go after she was left gasping for air.
Jinxia lay on top of Sheng Yan, burying her head in his chest, her heartbeat raced, and she felt her cheeks must be very red, not wanting Sheng Yan to see.
Gently stroking her hair, Sheng Yan leaned in close to her ear and asked, "Do you have any plans for today?"
After thinking for a moment, Jinxia said softly, "Sleep."
Sheng Yan’s words caught in his throat, and his body stiffened.
He cleared his throat and said, "Wouldn’t that be a bit too fast?"
Jinxia was confused, "What?"
Sheng Yan said in a low voice, "I was planning to wait until after we got engaged before..."
Jinxia’s face instantly flushed red, and she quickly lifted her head to glare at him, "Where is your mind going, I—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Sheng Yan continued, "Since that’s what you’re thinking, it’s fine to do it sooner. After all, we’re only short of registering."
"Your mind is wandering, I meant you need a good rest, so you should sleep, and we won’t go anywhere today!" Jinxia quickly said with her cheeks burning red.
