Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Not That Simple
He Jinxia reflected on the past, remembering how she had spun like a top during filming, moving from one scene directly to the next without a pause. If she hadn’t fallen ill with a fever this time, given the intensity of her work, it would have been inevitable for her to fall sick again soon.
Her eyes twinkled sincerely as she said, "Senior Luo, thank you!"
Luo Dingxin felt somewhat uncomfortable under He Jinxia’s shining gaze and slightly shifted his eyes away from hers, teasingly saying,
"Still being so formal and calling me senior? It seems you’ve been in the circle longer than I. I should be the one calling you senior!"
Luo Dingxin, a rising actor in the past few years, had striking looks perfect for period costumes and a low-profile nature. He had always worked diligently in his filming, earning a good reputation within the industry and had never been involved in any scandals, thus maintaining a positive image among the audiences and passersby.
Although He Jinxia had been mixing in the entertainment circle for four years, her venture into the acting industry was only recent, in the last half year. Even though her popularity was high, Luo Dingxin truly deserved her calling him a senior.
He Jinxia’s eyes twinkled, and she said with a smile, "Even though I entered the circle before you, you have more acting experience than I do. Let’s both step back; you call me Jinxia, and I’ll call you Brother Dingxin. Let’s not look at seniority but consider age instead."
Luo Dingxin couldn’t help but turn his head to look at He Jinxia, those bright phoenix eyes of the girl seeming to peer into his soul.
A warmth surged in his heart, mixed with a different kind of emotion. Luo Dingxin’s voice was slightly hoarse as he said, "Alright, that’s settled then, Jinxia."
He Jinxia didn’t notice anything unusual about Luo Dingxin and cheerfully replied, "Brother Dingxin."
Luo Dingxin was older than her and had always been approachable with her. If it weren’t for his reminder, she probably would’ve fallen ill a few more times before changing her filming habits. Thus, this address as "Brother" was definitely well deserved.
"Jinxia, Dingxin, come here and walk through your positions!" Shortly after, the voice of the assistant director rang out, and both of them immediately became serious, showing their professional attitude as actors and began working earnestly.
With Luo Dingxin’s reminder, He Jinxia suggested a short rest after each scene during the afternoon shoot, and the assistant director readily agreed. The production wasn’t rushed, so what was the big deal in resting a few minutes?
Sometimes, He Jinxia didn’t even need to suggest resting. After one scene, the next required the set to be redressed, taking some time, which they effectively used as rest.
In the evening, when He Jinxia finished work and returned to the hotel, she felt light and thought about taking out her small dumbbells for some exercise.
Days in the production crew continued to pass calmly.
In the following days, He Jinxia intermittently interacted with Luo Sifang and Luo Dingxin. Since her scenes didn’t overlap with Gu Runfei and Yang Xiaoqing, she didn’t cross paths with them.
If she had no intersections with them in acting, they were even less likely to meet outside of it.
She was ultimately just a secondary female lead. Initially, her confrontational scenes were mostly with Luo Sifang and Luo Dingxin, but later on, they would mostly involve the Ciming family. In a few days, her part of the script would transition to her character getting married, and she probably wouldn’t see Luo Sifang or Luo Dingxin anymore.
By the time Cheng Xiaohua discovered the undercurrent between Yang Xiaoqing and Luo Sifang, a whole week had passed.
At night, Cheng Xiaohua slipped into He Jinxia’s room and shared her discoveries, her face unable to hide her surprise.
"Jinxia, you really guessed right, there is something off about those two!"
He Jinxia, who was holding a small dumbbell and lifting her arms in a specific way to strengthen them, raised an eyebrow and asked, "What do you mean?"
Cheng Xiaohua replied, "Both of them have been secretly competing and comparing themselves fiercely. It wasn’t noticeable initially, but their relationship has suddenly turned hostile these past few days, making many in the crew aware of it. I found out because of this."
She paused briefly and continued, "Firstly, they have to compete with their jewelry and outfits, preventing the props team from styling them with jewelry that the other has used. It’s so severe that even their clothes cannot be of the same style or color.
For instance, if one of them wears pink one day, the other will definitely not wear the same color on the same day."
That was a minor issue compared to what happened today. After Luo Sifang and Yang Xiaoqing shot a scene together, a piece of important jewelry went missing from their scene’s setting. Luo Sifang claimed she saw Yang Xiaoqing’s assistant take it."
He Jinxia asked with interest, "Did the two of them start fighting over this?"
Cheng Xiaohua quickly nodded and exaggeratedly said, "It was more than just a fight, they were practically ready to turn the place upside down!"
Yang Xiaoqing said it couldn’t have been her assistant, but Luo Sifang insisted she saw it, and suggested searching to find out the truth.
Yang Xiaoqing refused the search, saying it violated personal privacy without consent, and she would definitely not agree to it, escalating the argument significantly, which even involved Gu Qiao."
Cheng Xiaohua recalled and said, "I wasn’t there at the time, but the person who informed me said that Gu Qiao spent a long time mediating before he could calm both parties down."
He Jinxia asked curiously, "So, what about the lost expensive jewelry, was it just left unresolved?"
Cheng Xiaohua shook her head, shrugged her shoulders and spread her hands, saying, "I’m not quite sure if it was resolved. The jewelry wasn’t found, and since Yang Xiaoqing wouldn’t let anyone search her assistant’s bag, the crew couldn’t possibly force a search, could they?"
He Jinxia lowered her eyes, lips curling into a meaningful smile, and slowly said, "It should return tomorrow."
This time, it was Cheng Xiaohua who was stunned and she quickly asked, "Do you know who took the jewelry?"
He Jinxia switched the dumbbell to the other hand and said indifferently, "I don’t know, but the jewelry is very likely in Yang Xiaoqing’s assistant’s bag."
Cheng Xiaohua frowned, somewhat puzzled, "So it was Yang Xiaoqing’s assistant who took the jewelry, then why won’t Yang Xiaoqing admit it?"
He Jinxia countered, "Why would she admit it if it wasn’t her assistant who took it personally? I merely said the jewelry is in her assistant’s bag, but that doesn’t necessarily mean her assistant took it."
At that moment, Cheng Xiaohua finally understood and exclaimed in surprise, "Are you saying her assistant was framed?"
He Jinxia smiled faintly and remained silent.
Cheng Xiaohua continued to ponder and analyze, "Actually, when Luo Sifang first claimed she saw Yang Xiaoqing’s assistant take it, I found it strange. That assistant has been with Yang Xiaoqing for many years, at least five years.
Yang Xiaoqing, a child star from her youth, has made quite a bit of money and is known to be generous and upright. If her assistant had habits of thievery, she would have been dismissed long ago.
The assistant never took anything before, so why now, and just so happened to be seen by Luo Sifang, is quite peculiar."
Cheng Xiaohua couldn’t help clapping her hands, excitedly saying, "And Luo Sifang, a newcomer pushed by a sponsor, daring to confront Yang Xiaoqing, must have something to rely on.
In my estimation, if Luo Sifang weren’t sure that the jewelry was in Yang Xiaoqing’s assistant’s bag, she probably wouldn’t have blatantly accused her and openly fought with Yang Xiaoqing. Jinxia, wouldn’t you agree?"
For the first time, Cheng Xiaohua felt that she was quite smart.
