Chapter 830: 0830, Haidongqing Appears Again! (Fifth Update)
Falconry is a game among the young elites of Capital City, primarily to showcase whose falcon is the strongest, and the one with the strongest falcon is the winner.
This game, whose origin is unknown, has been popular for many years.
Although it is difficult for ordinary people nowadays to raise a fighting falcon, facing various obstacles, it is quite simple for these young masters from Capital City; it’s just a matter of spending several times the money.
Falconry is cruel; each year’s battle leaves only one survivor, who is deemed the king.
As for those that die, they are discarded in the outskirts where no one bothers with them.
Listening to the conversation between Xu Rui and Ye Sa, Ye Qiu knew what they had gathered for – they were here to engage in falconry today.
Seeing that the great falcon, which should be soaring in the sky, was trapped in a cage, Ye Qiu felt pity for it. It was the king of the skies, but now it had become a plaything for these young elites of Capital City; it was indeed very cruel to the falcon.
Liu Wen and Wang Lin appeared one after another.
Similarly, behind them, people carried huge iron cages, each containing a large creature with its wings folded.
The falconry was essentially a gamble among the four young elites of Capital City; whoever’s fighting falcon won in the end would become the foremost among the four, and the other three would yield the way upon meeting him.
Therefore, to uphold their own reputation, all four strive to win the final victory each year.
"Since everyone’s here, let’s begin today’s falconry game," Liu Wen said.
Following this, a special substance was applied to the beaks of the falcons by designated individuals. This substance was used to incite their aggression towards each other, with its scent provoking the male falcons to fight.
Ye Qiu stood silently on the side, coldly observing everything that was happening.
The four cages opened, and in an instant, four large falcons spread their wings and flew to the sky, crying out as if expressing their joy at no longer having to stay inside a cage.
Shortly after soaring in the sky, the intense battle began instantaneously.
Ye Sa’s falcon was a large grey-brown one, massive in stature, with its wingspan nearly reaching three meters when spread.
Xu Rui, Liu Wen, and Wang Lin’s fighting falcons each had their own special features and distinct colors.
However, they were not much different in size, with the exception of Liu Wen’s, which was somewhat smaller. Its claws were white, a distinctive feature compared to the other three; despite its small size, it was extremely fierce.
The four fighting falcons clashed in the sky, occasionally shedding plenty of feathers.
"Young Master Liu, your fighting falcon may be small in size, but its attack power surpasses those of all the others," Chen Dong complimented.
He had also noticed Ye Qiu, but his purpose for coming today was not to cause trouble for Ye Qiu. The Liu, Wang, and Xu families had already taken action, and there was no need for them to act. Ye Qiu would naturally disappear soon, so today, whether it was Liu Wen or Xu Rui, as well as Chen Dong himself, they all regarded Ye Qiu as an invisible person, believing that Ye Qiu would not be able to enjoy his success for much longer.
Hearing Chen Dong’s flattery, Ma Zhipeng spoke up, "Young Master Liu’s falcon is a rare breed. He spent a large sum to acquire it and just nurturing it took half a year. Don’t be fooled by its size; it’s one of the fiercest among all avian species. In my opinion, the winner of this year’s falconry will definitely be Young Master Liu."
Ye Sa, Xu Rui, and Wang Lin also noticed that Liu Wen’s falcon was exceptionally agile; small in body, yet its claws were astoundingly nimble and sharp, nearly knocking Wang Lin’s falcon out of the sky.
The people around Ye Sa were also watching the sky, cheering and encouraging Ye Sa’s falcon. However, from the current situation, Ye Sa’s falcon did not seem particularly outstanding.
Liu Wen’s face broke into a smug smile. His fighting eagle, known far and wide as the Haidong Qing, cost him tens of thousands of yuan to capture. After spending over half a year training it, he had invested more than one hundred thousand yuan into this very Haidong Qing.
Now that he had finally tamed the Haidong Qing, it was one of Liu Wen’s most satisfying accomplishments.
Liu Wen’s Haidong Qing started fighting one against two, but soon it was taking on three at a time.
Even so, Liu Wen’s Haidong Qing dominated the battle, fully displaying the grandeur of the Haidong Qing, clawing the opposing three fighting eagles and drawing plenty of blood.
Seeing that his fighting eagle was about to be the first one eliminated, Xu Rui’s face turned sour. If his fighting eagle was the first to lose, it meant that he, Xu Rui, would be the first to be ousted.
Although the Liu, Wang, and Xu families all joined forces against Ye Qiu, seeking to ruin his future, that didn’t mean the heirs of these three families got along harmoniously.
Among the ’Four Young Masters of the Capital City,’ there was strife, but their infighting was nothing compared to the fierce battles waged by their families behind the scenes.
Sure enough, as everyone expected, Xu Rui’s fighting eagle was the first to fall.
Infuriated, Xu Rui swiftly drew a bow and arrow, and with a powerful pull, an arrow flew straight towards the falling fighting eagle. With a "thwack," the bird couldn’t even let out a cry before it hit the ground and died instantly.
Many onlookers were astonished by Xu Rui’s ruthless decisiveness.
Liu Wen’s Haidong Qing grew more valiant as the battle waged on, ceaselessly beating its wings in the air and repeatedly clawing at the two opposing fighting eagles, swiftly inflicting considerable damage on Ye Sa’s and Wang Lin’s birds.
"Young Master Ye, Young Master Wang, this time, I reckon the Eagle King title will go to Young Master Liu," said Xu Rui, taking out his frustrations by killing his own defeated eagle without a second thought. He then turned his attention back to the sky and spoke to Ye Sa and Wang Lin.
Ye Sa did not give up. His fighting eagle might not match Liu Wen’s Haidong Qing in terms of attack power, but in intelligence, Ye Sa was full of confidence in his bird.
"Just watch," said Ye Sa calmly. Wang Lin, on the other hand, said nothing, his gaze fixed on the sky. Among the ’Four Young Masters of the Capital City,’ he was the one who spoke the least.
Suddenly, Wang Lin’s fighting eagle fluttered in the air, and Liu Wen’s Haidong Qing stepped on it, its claws instantly tearing into Wang Lin’s eagle. The bird cried out in pain before rapidly fleeing.
"Haha, Young Master Liu is going to win!" Seeing this, Chen Dong, Ma Zhipeng, and others by Liu Wen’s side rejoiced, having defeated two opponents in a row. They saw Ye Sa’s fighting eagle as no more of a threat.
But at that moment, Ye Sa’s fighting eagle unexpectedly launched a frenzied attack. Taking advantage of the Haidong Qing’s focus on Wang Lin’s eagle, it glided from behind and pecked violently at the Haidong Qing’s wing, tearing off a large piece of flesh. With half of its wing bloodied, the bird could only maintain flight using the other half.
"How could this happen?" Chen Dong and the others went from jubilation to despair as they watched this scene. Looking back at the battle, their advantage had disappeared, and it was clear that the Haidong Qing would not last much longer before it fell, signaling a complete defeat.
The previously unrivaled Haidong Qing was now being bested by another fighting eagle. Liu Wen could not accept this outcome, as all the time and effort he had poured into it were in vain.
Liu Wen called out, "Give me the bow."
"Young Master Liu..." The others realized what Liu Wen intended to do; he wanted to personally kill the Haidong Qing rather than let it fall to someone else’s hand.
Liu Wen’s archery skills were no worse than Xu Rui’s, clearly the result of long practice. Without hesitation, he drew his bow and aimed to kill the wounded Haidong Qing.
Just as the arrow was shot towards the Haidong Qing and came within less than half a meter, a stone suddenly appeared, breaking the arrow. The injured Haidong Qing, unable to maintain flight due to the attack by Ye Sa’s eagle, immediately plummeted down.
Ye Qiu’s figure flashed by. Before the onlookers could react, he was already standing where the Haidong Qing was set to land and deftly caught it.
