Chapter 520: 0521 Unmatched! (Third update)
Suddenly, Taniyama Shiro’s eyes burst with an astonishing glow.
The Kusanagi Sword!
Taniyama Shiro had never imagined that a divine artifact from Japan would appear in Ye Qiu’s hands, and that the latter was using this very sword to cross swords with him.
Just a moment ago, he was puzzled about how Ye Qiu could produce fog, but as soon as his gaze registered the sword, the unrelated phenomena of fog and the sword instantly reminded him of a long-lost Japanese divine artifact—the Kusanagi Sword.
"Where did you obtain that sword?" Taniyama Shiro asked. In his mind, he recalled that previously, some Japanese experts had gone to Myanmar to seek the whereabouts of the Kusanagi Sword. At that time, all of them were beheaded. Could it be that the murderer was also Ye Qiu?
Suddenly, Taniyama Shiro revealed a smile, "So it was you, Ye Qiu, the culprit all along. You have our Japanese divine artifact in your possession, and even if I do not kill you, countless others will come for you. This divine artifact will return to its rightful owner today—hand it over to me."
With that, Taniyama Shiro dashed into the fog, and his words echoed around them.
The people around looked at each other in confusion, not understanding what Taniyama Shiro was talking about, or what this mess about a divine artifact was.
However, figures like Qian Zhen the Taoist and other martial arts seniors furrowed their brows and gathered together, saying, "Could it be that the sword in Ye Qiu’s hand is truly that divine artifact from Japanese legend?"
Qian Zhen the Taoist spoke slowly, "Creating fog with a sword is not a power possessed by those in the True Qi realm. I do not know how Young Friend Ye managed to obtain this Japanese divine artifact. Even if we stand against Taniyama Shiro today and save Young Friend Ye’s life, we won’t be able to stop those crazy individuals from Japan."
"This divine sword might be more of a curse than a blessing for Young Friend Ye," Qian Zhen the Taoist sighed repeatedly.
Chen Yifeng and the others were silent, pondering even more. A long-lost Japanese divine artifact in the hands of their Huaxia people, now being used against the Japanese themselves—despite the extreme irony, they could imagine the uproar it would cause in the Japanese martial arts world once word got out.
It might even attract a more terrifying presence.
Japan had more than just the legendary realm master like Taniyama Shiro; if those old monsters made a move, who could safeguard the divine artifact?
For a moment, the mood around the senior martial artists became heavy, but that did not hinder everyone else’s surprise at Taniyama Shiro’s words.
"The Kusanagi Sword? Why does Taniyama Shiro say it’s a Japanese divine artifact? Isn’t it Ye Qiu’s?"
"Idiot, haven’t you heard the legend from Japan? There was once a monstrous serpent that wreaked havoc on the country, leaving the people in misery. Then there came a swordsman who beheaded the serpent’s eight heads, and the sword in his hand was the Kusanagi Sword!"
After this explanation, many were astounded. Something from the myths was real, the sword truly existed.
"So that’s why Taniyama Shiro wants to get the sword from Ye Qiu’s hands. This is a divine sword that beheaded a monstrous serpent. Who knows what secrets it contains. I think the reason Ye Qiu is so powerful is entirely due to wielding this Japanese divine sword," someone asserted.
"Maybe not, I saw that when he made his move against Jiu Zang and Fujikawa Ueno, he did not use this sword. Ye Qiu’s strength should be beyond doubt, and as for the sword, it is just a lifeless object. No matter how powerful, without someone to wield it, it’s just a piece of scrap iron," replied another.
The discussion about the Kusanagi Sword piqued the interest of many.
Meanwhile, Taniyama Shiro, who had entered the fog, was tracking Ye Qiu’s figure.
The Kusanagi Sword was a divine artifact of Japan, and even Taniyama Shiro had never truly seen it. The fog generated by the Kusanagi Sword completely concealed the swordsman’s presence.
He had figured that Ye Qiu’s ability to behead samurai was by using this fog to hide his figure and deliver an assassinating blow, thus securing his victory.
Indeed, as Taniyama Shiro surmised, the reason Ye Qiu managed to behead the Japanese Samurai was in part due to the fog concealment, which hid his figure.
But he found it difficult to rely on this to kill Taniyama Shiro.
As the king of assassins, Ye Qiu, with the assistance of the fog generated by the Kusanagi Sword, would undoubtedly have his strength greatly improved, and to confront an opponent, he needed only a swift and decisive strike to end the fight.
However, his current opponent was Taniyama Shiro, a master of the legendary realm.
Even with the help of the fog, Ye Qiu still had no certainty in his heart.
Concealing his entire presence, still as stone and deadwood, Ye Qiu sought to deliver the perfect killing blow.
Taniyama Shiro was full of confidence, within the fog, he shone like a blazing sun, his whole being glowing red. Without even looking closely, one could sense Taniyama Shiro’s position.
"The Kusanagi Sword is a divine artifact of Japan, and its magic depends on whose hands wield it. You, a martial artist in the True Qi realm, cannot possibly unleash all of its power," he declared.
"A child brandishing an axe, thinking to wound me? It’s a ludicrous joke!"
The words of Taniguchi Shiro spread throughout the fog, intentionally meant for Ye Qiu to hear, to strike at Ye Qiu’s confidence.
Taniguchi Shiro swept his gaze around him but found no trace of Ye Qiu, not even a ripple of breath.
"This kid can really keep his cool, let’s see how long you can hide," Taniguchi Shiro suddenly said with a cold laugh.
His fingers abruptly converged an explosive energy, transforming it into dozens of grains in his hand, which he continuously shot out.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh...
In all directions, with Taniguchi Shiro at the center, he launched an indiscriminate attack, completely disregarding the fog.
Boom boom boom!
Successive air bursts vibrated the air, causing a painful ringing in the ears. Seeing still no movement, Taniguchi Shiro fired another salvo.
"Ah! Damn it, I got hit." Before Ye Qiu was hit, one of the observing martial artists cried out in pain, struck by Taniguchi Shiro’s indiscriminate attack.
Many laughed heartily as the man had been hit for no reason, an accidental injury.
"Not showing up yet? I don’t believe you can hide forever." Taniguchi Shiro prepared to continue pushing Ye Qiu to reveal himself, as such tactics did not consume much strength, and in terms of stamina, he would not lose to someone in the True Qi realm.
At that moment Ye Qiu was in a dire situation; amongst all the attacks that seemed to miss, one had found its mark.
But Ye Qiu didn’t scream or shout, instead enduring the pain in silence.
He did not stay still any longer but slowly began to approach.
Thirty feet, twenty feet...
Closer and closer, right behind Taniguchi Shiro, Ye Qiu held his breath for a dozen moments before finally thrusting his sword.
This thrust aimed to pierce through the heart from the back.
The Kusanagi Sword moved silently, not even affecting the surrounding fog, and suddenly it was right behind Taniguchi Shiro’s back.
Half an inch!
Far from feeling any joy at nearly succeeding, Ye Qiu’s whole body trembled as he sensed impending danger.
Not good!
Ye Qiu’s eyes widened in shock as he suddenly saw Taniguchi Shiro’s fingers catching the blade of his sword out of nowhere.
Immediately after, Taniguchi Shiro turned around, his eyes filled with a beastly, terrifying presence, focused on Ye Qiu.
"Run!"
Ye Qiu turned pale with fright, his Kusanagi Sword twisting in his hand as he broke away and sprinted.
"Come chase me if you dare, old man!"
He didn’t forget to taunt just before fleeing.
In an instant, Ye Qiu’s figure burst out of the mist, and to everyone’s astonishment, he leapt down from the building of the Yamato Corporation.
Just as Ye Qiu jumped off the rooftop, Taniguchi Shiro came out in pursuit, blood dripping from between his two fingers.
His cold gaze followed the path Ye Qiu had taken as he jumped, "You can’t escape!"
Immediately, his figure flashed as he gave chase.
Leaving behind the bewildered onlookers, the battlefield had shifted!
