Chapter 484: 0485 A Mistake in Judgement (First Update)
Song Jie, Jiang Hao, and Luo Ming jointly took action,, completely disregarding Zhu Feng’s face. In the end, had they not beaten him up almost enough, another participant, a director from another group pleading for mercy, they probably wouldn’t have stopped.
The farce that started because of Zhu Feng settled down just like that.
The cause and effect of the incident were not hard to guess; Zhu Feng must have had ill intentions, got slapped by Fang Sijie, and somehow Song Jie and the other two young masters stepped in and resolved the matter.
Although many people were curious about Ye Qiu, most assumed that after all Ye Qiu hadn’t made a move, but merely dropped a tough line and then stood by watching the show, which made many people ridicule him for acting too much. As for Fang Sijie’s behavior, it displeased some, especially those men with dishonorable intentions.
Fang Sijie dared to slap someone’s face, which meant if any other man harbored lecherous thoughts, he couldn’t avoid that slap either.
Discussions about Fang Sijie began to spread among the crowd.
Just like the vulgar words Zhu Feng had previously spat out, privately, these discussions naturally included similar unkind remarks.
"Hmph, with such a bad temper, even if the project she holds is good, I won’t invest. She doesn’t offer any return."
"I heard Jiang Hao was chasing after her. This time the iron triangle took action, it must be related to this. Who knows how many times Jiang Hao has slept with this Fang Sijie to be so bewitched as to convince the other two brothers to stand up for her," someone gossiped about Jiang Hao’s previous pursuit of Fang Sijie.
"As I see it, let’s all not invest in her, and see what she can do. Still trying to act the virtuous and forceful woman, does she really think she’s still a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl? Acting all high and mighty just because she’s somewhat good looking."
These comments weren’t made discreetly from Fang Sijie, and her face turned pale. She hadn’t expected that a proper business event, where she thought she would find partners, could turn out this way because of her actions. It seemed like no one was willing to talk to her anymore.
Fang Sijie felt dispirited, and her friends, Sister Hong and Feng Zi, promptly came over to comfort her.
"Sijie, don’t worry about it, these stinky men, we don’t need them."
"I refuse to believe that in the vast Huaxia, there isn’t a single person who can appreciate true value. As for Zhu Feng, since Song Jie and the others have turned him into a pig’s head, you don’t need to take it to heart. If it comes to it, just avoid him if he’s around."
Comforted by Sister Hong and Feng Zi, Fang Sijie’s face brightened a little, and she squeezed out a smile, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me."
Seeing Fang Sijie’s mood improve, the two of them asked, "Are you close with Song Jie and the others? They stood up for you this time, putting on a hero saves the beauty show, but that did offend Zhu Feng, a wealthy business magnate. Of course, given their status, they needn’t care about a business boss."
"Sijie, tell us, why did they help you?"
Fang Sijie was also confused; she had earlier speculated that Song Jie and the others wanted to use her daughter as leverage to threaten her, so how could they possibly stand up for her spontaneously?
Could it be because of him?
Fang Sijie couldn’t think of any reason; it seemed that only that man made sense.
Thinking of Ye Qiu, Fang Sijie looked towards him to see Ye Qiu smiling at her. Her heart grew more convinced that he was the reason.
Moving slowly towards Ye Qiu, Fang Sijie said earnestly, "Thank you, you’ve helped me again."
This was already countless times Fang Sijie had thanked him, and in just the brief span of a few days, Ye Qiu had helped her numerous times. Each instance sparked a subtle change in the bottom of Fang Sijie’s heart, much like a chemical reaction.
Following her over, Sister Hong and Feng Zi didn’t understand why Fang Sijie thanked Ye Qiu, and were somewhat baffled.
However, as soon as Song Jie, Jiang Hao, and Luo Ming stood in front of Ye Qiu, the first words they uttered immediately made the two women realize that the real person who had helped Fang Sijie was this young man before them.
"Brother Ye, I wonder if you are satisfied with the outcome just now?" Song Jie said against his conscience, for if he hadn’t feared that Ye Qiu would tear his face off on the spot, he would never have interfered.
Just endure it, endure until today’s trade association event is over, then it’s time to settle accounts with Ye Qiu!
Ye Qiu nodded indifferently, didn’t glance at the three men any further, and signaled that they could leave. Jiang Hao sneakily shot a look at Fang Sijie and, not daring to be presumptuous under Ye Qiu’s gaze, quickly followed Song Jie to stay far away from Ye Qiu to avoid being dragged into offending anyone again.
"Sijie, aren’t you going to introduce us to this handsome guy? You can’t brush us off again," Sister Hong spoke up. Both she and Feng Zi wanted to get to know Ye Qiu, this somewhat mysterious young man in their eyes.
With an "ah," Fang Sijie almost forgot about Sister Hong and Feng Zi beside her, and said, "This is Ye Qiu, Sister Hong, Feng Zi."
Ye Qiu nodded toward both, saying, "Sister Hong, Miss Feng."
These two friends of Fang Sijie, Sister Hong was a bit older, and although there were some wrinkles at the corners of her eyes, her skin was very fair and well maintained. Paired with a figure that hadn’t lost its shape, she could be described as having a mature charm.
As for Feng Zi, she was about the same age as Fang Sijie. Compared to Fang Sijie, her looks fell a little short, but her temperament was good, and her smile made her seem approachable, likely an easy person to get along with.
After greeting them, Sister Hong and Feng Zi were eager to understand Ye Qiu’s identity, so they repeatedly made roundabout inquiries about him. Ye Qiu had nothing to hide; he directly divulged his ordinary status as a bodyguard, which took them aback.
"A bodyguard?" Disappointment immediately flickered in Sister Hong and Feng Zi’s eyes. The status of a bodyguard, frankly put, was just someone hired to be a tough guy—aside from having good fighting skills, there wasn’t much about such a person to be deemed significant.
They had thought that Ye Qiu came from a substantial family background and thus felt a tinge of anticipation, only to find out he was just a common bodyguard.
In that case, the relationship between Song Jie and Ye Qiu was very likely because Ye Qiu had protected someone from the Song family, so Song Jie was fairly polite to him and even willing to give face to Ye Qiu, taking the initiative to help Fang Sijie.
The two women exchanged looks, coming to this possible conclusion, and said on the surface, "That’s good, it’s good to be a bodyguard." But Ye Qiu could clearly see through the real change in their expressions.
Ye Qiu sneered inside, but he didn’t care about these two women’s opinions of him.
"Sijie, we’ll go over there first; President Zhang is calling us. We’ll talk more later." Seeing that Ye Qiu wasn’t of much value, Sister Hong and Feng Zi decided not to waste their time here any longer and casually made an excuse.
Fang Sijie said okay, and Sister Hong and Feng Zi finally left with their wine glasses in hand.
Seeing the cold smile on Ye Qiu’s face, Fang Sijie knew that Ye Qiu had clearly seen through her two friends’ opportunistic nature and she said, with a hint of apology in her voice, "Sorry, they aren’t usually like this..."
Fang Sijie made an excuse, and Ye Qiu shook his head, unconcerned, and said, "No matter, I was just thinking that you’d better keep your distance from such friends in the future."
For some reason, Fang Sijie obediently nodded her head, something she herself hadn’t even noticed.
Meanwhile, in the center of the venue, Liu Wen was draping his arm over Shen Mengchen’s shoulder, another hand wrapped around her waist, stepping through dance moves continuously. Initially, Shen Mengchen hadn’t intended to accept, but seeing Ye Qiu stand up for Fang Sijie, something in her heart shifted, and she found herself agreeing to Liu Wen’s invitation.
But as soon as she started dancing, Shen Mengchen regretted it. She felt nothing for Liu Wen, and the dance was utterly dull.
From time to time, Shen Mengchen’s gaze would drift towards Ye Qiu and Fang Sijie.
Liu Wen’s brows furrowed.
