Chapter 412: 0413 I told you to get lost!
Ye Qiu, who had always thought of himself as an orphan, had never imagined that his origins would gradually be unveiled due to his penetrating vision.
His family experienced a catastrophe, a powerful enemy, and there were still many things to learn from the mouth of that evil-minded mysterious man, but the man hurriedly left, leaving Ye Qiu’s mind restless for a long time.
After a long while, Ye Qiu composed himself, knowing that the only way to learn about his origins was to encounter the mysterious man with ill intentions again.
Ye Qiu left the forest, planning to say goodbye to Caroline before departing. He always felt indebted to this woman.
Ye Qiu remembered how Caroline had single-handedly detained Adam to allow him to escape. At that time, outside the tavern, Ye Qiu felt guilty—if his strength had been overwhelming enough to crush Adam, he would have never allowed a woman to sacrifice herself to save him.
He eventually couldn’t just leave Italy like this.
It was only after descending from the forest that Ye Qiu realized he had almost crossed the borders of Italy; a few hundred meters further west, and he would have left the country.
Fortunately, with Ye Qiu’s skills, he didn’t attract the attention of the border guards and quickly vanished from the spot.
...
With Ju Lu dead and Bai Xiong missing, this major incident was still fermenting.
Caroline, who had been released from the hospital, had been trying to find out about Ye Qiu’s whereabouts these past few days to no avail. The location where Bai Xiong and Ju Lu had disappeared was sealed off by the Condoryer family, but Caroline still managed to unearth a piece of definite news.
The Condoryer family had not found any bodies, except for some bone fragments suspected to be Ju Lu’s; there was no sign of Ye Qiu or Bai Xiong.
This eased Caroline’s anxious heart a considerable amount.
Because this indirectly indicated that the chances were high Ye Qiu hadn’t come to any harm, although with Bai Xiong also missing, it frequently caused Caroline to frown. Propping her chin on her hands, her golden hair straight and falling over her shoulders, she sat alone in a tavern drinking.
Bai Xiong was the trump card of the Condoryer family; otherwise, why would they use so much force to seal off an entire mountain?
"I hope he’s alright. He has survived so many assassination attempts before, and even facing Bai Xiong, he will surely survive," she murmured.
Caroline sat quietly, one drink following another.
Tap tap tap...
The sound of footsteps faintly approached, and soon a man appeared behind Caroline.
"Miss Caroline, the Duke requests your presence at dinner in the palace tonight, please make sure you attend," said the man. Though his status was lower than Caroline’s, there was a trace of defiance in his eyes; to him, even a member of the royal family didn’t seem to be enough to intimidate.
"I understand," Caroline responded without turning around, still looking at her glass.
The man took a couple of steps away and then paused, saying, "You must be thinking about him, Miss. By now, he’s probably dead. Why let a dead man affect your mood?"
"Shut up!" Caroline swiftly turned around, flinging her glass at the man.
The man casually raised his hand, deflecting it easily, caught the glass thrown by Caroline, and looking at the lipstick mark on the rim, he sniffed it with a look of pleasure, saying indifferently, "That man is not suitable for you. The entire Condoryer family mobilized their highest level of force for his sake. No matter how powerful he is, he would still end up dead."
"He’s not dead!" Caroline bit her lip, staring intently at the man whose words and demeanor toward Ye Qiu were utterly disrespectful.
"Heh, why deceive yourself? If the Condoryer family hadn’t acted promptly, he would have died at my hands," the man said mockingly.
"What did you say? My uncle ordered you to kill him?" Caroline’s expression changed dramatically.
"How astute, Miss Caroline. A man who could capture the attention of the would-be Queen of the Assassins, it had to be that guy. If the Duke couldn’t guess that much, he wouldn’t deserve to be called the Duke," the man said with a chuckle.
Caroline’s heart was in turmoil, she hadn’t expected that despite her careful concealment, her uncle had still detected a trace and had someone try to kill Ye Qiu.
"Now there’s no need for me to take action, that guy has disappeared without a trace. At this moment, there’s probably not even a corpse left, reduced to ashes, presumably meeting the same end as Ju Lu. It’s just a pity that with his low cultivation, not even his bones are left," the man’s words were a jab at Caroline’s nerves.
"He can’t be dead! Get lost!" Caroline shouted angrily, loathing the sight of this subordinate who lacked any sense of loyalty.
"Hehe, Miss Caroline, I only take orders from the Duke. Telling me to get lost is a bit difficult for me," he retorted.
The man’s words further enraged Caroline. Don’t be mistaken by her gender; Caroline was also a queen in the world of assassins, her hands stained with much blood. Now, in a burst of anger, her countenance changed, showing a heroism that outshone any man’s.
The man raised his eyebrow, "As the queen of the assassin world, I wonder if you’ve heard of Wuying?"
Wuying?
Caroline’s gaze bore into the man, and at that moment, he smiled and said, "How do you think Wuying compares to King Yan?"
"You’re not even one-tenth of him!" How could Caroline not understand the man’s insinuation? This man was the latest king in the assassin world, known as Wuying, whose assassination skills were so highly honed he had never been discovered, with not a single failure to his name. He was hailed as a contender capable of reaching the God Realm of Assassins.
"Miss Caroline, I disclosed my identity not to intimidate you but to make you understand that I’m not inferior to Ye Qiu. The Duke has spoken highly of me to my uncle many times, and he’s hopeful we can develop something more," Wuying said.
Caroline didn’t want to speak any further with him; finding the man’s audacity unbearable, she coldly said, "You wish to climb up to the royal family, transforming from a sparrow to a phoenix? Ridiculous. Let me tell you that you’ve got the wrong person. I, Caroline, even though I’ve been married once, would never choose you."
"I don’t want to see you, get out," Caroline issued an eviction notice, her words lacking any mercy.
"Sorry, I don’t want to leave. I don’t mind that you’ve been married; I believe my strength is enough to conquer you," Wuying stated arrogantly.
"You... don’t force me to take action!" Caroline was filled with ire.
Wuying had the attitude of a dead pig not fearing scalding water and began instead to appreciate Caroline’s face and figure.
"Who is this person, with such thick skin? The lady told you to get out, yet you’re still here. I really doubt a needle could pierce through your face!"
At that moment, a voice interrupted their standoff, as a figure stood at the doorway, pausing there, the light unable to reach the newcomer’s face. Caroline didn’t move, her eyes fixed on the face of the newcomer, and upon hearing that familiar voice, she rushed over.
She saw countless little fists punching Ye Qiu’s chest. Caroline displayed a girlish demeanor, "I’m relieved you’re okay, I was worried to death."
"Why have you only appeared now? I thought you were dead," she said.
"Next time, could you at least send word that you’re alright? Do you know how worried I was?"
Caroline’s ceaseless chatter, the relief of seeing Ye Qiu safe and standing before her, prompted Ye Qiu to pat her back gently.
Across from them stood Wuying, his face so grim it seemed water might drip from it.
Especially when Caroline embraced Ye Qiu, it ignited a furious blaze within Wuying.
"So you’re Ye Qiu?"
Ye Qiu swept his gaze across and said indifferently, "Are you the one who’s supposed to leave? You can go now!"
In that moment, Ye Qiu’s demeanor was without warmth or kindness; his domineering presence seemed to instantly revert to the era when he was King Yan of the assassin world!
Caroline’s eyes sparkled with excitement, feeling as if the King Yan of the assassins had returned.
