Chapter 355: 0354 divine figure
He’s betting big!
Everyone glanced sideways at Ye Qiu’s audacious gamble. This was no joke, this wasn’t China, and nobody would doubt Du Hao’s word here in Myanmar. He was the kind of man who always meant what he said.
Yet the fact that Ye Qiu dared to make such a bold declaration truly dumbfounded the crowd.
The three experts, when they looked at Ye Qiu, all thought he had lost his mind. They had never heard of anyone being able to pinpoint the value of jade with such precision.
The experts exchanged glances and sneered. Ye Qiu had indeed intimidated them with his prowess before, but now he had challenged Du Hao, and that was definitely something they were happy to see.
If they could take down Ye Qiu’s arrogant spirit, they would certainly applaud.
Du Hao found it hard to understand where Ye Qiu’s confidence came from. To stake his own body in such a risky bet gave him the impression of a desperate man. Du Hao admired this courage, but that didn’t mean he was just talking. With a flash in his eyes, Du Hao said loudly, "Fine, I won’t ask you to destroy your own eyes, your arms, but if the stone isn’t cut as you described, you’ll stay here and work for me as a stone-cutting laborer for the rest of your life!"
"Agreed," Ye Qiu responded coolly, as serene as ever.
He really did put everything on the line! At Du Hao’s command, a stone-cutting machine was quickly brought in.
The crowd surrounded the raw stone, and the stone-cutting worker waited for the order on where to begin.
"Cut!"
"Slice five inches down from the top of the stone, then one inch to the right!" Du Hao ordered, and the stone-cutting worker started the machine, cutting into the raw stone.
Sizzling...
Sparks flew, and stone dust filled the air, but no one bothered to shield themselves from the dust. Instead, they all fixed their gaze on the spot Ye Qiu had predicted, waiting to see if the raw jade would emerge.
Ten minutes passed, and the raw stone gradually showed its true colors, with a hint of green starting to shine through.
"It’s there!"
Two female bodyguards among the onlookers pointed at the spot on the stone, shouting aloud.
The crowd had already noticed the hint of green, but the layer of dust made it hard to see clearly.
Soon, with a ’pop’, a chunk of raw stone, weighing more than twenty pounds, separated from the larger mass. The stone-cutting worker wiped away the dust, revealing the freshly cut face of the stone.
"The whole piece is green, not a bit off!"
"And the rest of the large stone is really just rock, not even a hint of green. This is too precise."
The two female bodyguards were flabbergasted and looked at Ye Qiu with admiration. Although they were bodyguards, they still held great esteem for masters of any field. In their eyes, Ye Qiu’s composure seemed even more exceptional, causing ripples of admiration.
In their eyes, Ye Qiu had virtually become a man whose words turned into gold, capable of transforming stone into jade!
At least in their experience with judging stones, Ye Qiu’s skill was nothing short of miraculous.
"Brother Ye... truly is a master of judging stones!" Although Li Jinglong was somewhat prepared, he was still shocked at that moment. Everything matched Ye Qiu’s description exactly. How did he accomplish such a feat? To Li Jinglong’s eyes, Ye Qiu suddenly seemed enshrouded in mystery.
The three experts were dumbfounded as they stared at the cut rough stone, then ran forward to examine another piece of stone that showed no sign of green. When they looked back at Ye Qiu, disbelief filled their eyes.
The most shaken was Du Hao. Frowning, he stepped forward to check for himself and found that the result completely matched Ye Qiu’s description. If they had stopped half an inch earlier during the cutting and then cut horizontally, a bit would have been left on the large stone itself.
Yet, cutting according to Ye Qiu’s instructions, not a trace was left behind.
With a deep glance at Ye Qiu, Du Hao saw Ye Qiu’s calm face. As their eyes met, Du Hao clasped his fists and said, "Du admits defeat, I admire your skill!"
Now that Ye Qiu had proven his genuine ability, Du Hao, an old hand in the business, naturally didn’t put on airs and lowered his stance to show Ye Qiu respect.
"To honor the bet, this piece of jade that’s been cut is a gift for our first meeting. If I’ve offended you earlier, I hope you won’t take it to heart," said Du Hao with sincere earnestness.
"You’re too kind. I came here to return a favor to your cousin, so give this piece of cut jade to him," said Ye Qiu, also lowering his stance without being standoffish, speaking in a very even tone.
Upon hearing this, Li Jinglong hastily shook his head, "That won’t do at all, Brother Ye. If Cousin says to give the jade to you, it’s yours. I absolutely cannot accept it."
"Brother Ye, please accept it. Otherwise, it would seem like you’re looking down on me!" Du Hao then spoke up, now finding Ye Qiu even more appealing. In Du Hao’s eyes, the fact that Ye Qiu could give away jade worth millions so casually to Li Jinglong won his admiration; it showed that Ye Qiu didn’t place too much importance on money. Such a person, Du Hao was willing to befriend deeply.
"Alright, then I’ll accept it." With everyone saying so, Ye Qiu was not going to play coy.
"Cousin, this young friend you invited is truly our god of wealth!" Du Hao laughed heartily. He was in high spirits and even giving Ye Qiu a piece of jade worth millions didn’t disturb his mood.
A stone-cutting expert who could accurately predict the amount of jade from raw stones indeed deserved the title of god of wealth. It was like a wolf appearing among a group of goats, playing however it wished.
The three experts chuckled awkwardly, their faces a bit abashed. They eyed the cut piece of jade with envy, pitying that Du Hao had given it to Ye Qiu, who even demurred before reluctantly accepting.
Inside, the experts were both envious and a bit sour, wishing they could replace Ye Qiu, but they could only look on in regret, lacking Ye Qiu’s precise ability to judge jade.
Thinking back to their earlier equivocal answers and comparing them to Ye Qiu’s concise judgments, the difference in skill was immediately obvious.
"Cousin, with Brother Ye here, the mining area behind the river will be ours," Li Jinglong said excitedly, proud in front of his cousin for having found Ye Qiu.
"True, with Brother Ye by our side, no one can match us, and all the top jades will be in the palm of our hands," Du Hao laughed heartily in agreement.
The atmosphere instantly became cheerful, and the twelve bodyguards looked enviously at Ye Qiu. They put their lives on the line working as bodyguards, but probably didn’t earn as much in a year as the jade Du Hao had given to Ye Qiu.
The two female bodyguards sent Ye Qiu glances filled with a hint of affection, hoping to attract his attention.
Ye Qiu smiled at them both, causing a significant stir in their thoughts.
"Brother Ye, later I’ll host a meal to welcome you and cleanse the dust from travel. Let’s have a good feast, and tomorrow we’ll start work to earn a fortune, how does that sound?" Du Hao offered warmly, his demeanor a complete shift from before. Surrounded by everyone, Ye Qiu left the simple lodging and drove out of the mining area.
Through the car window, Ye Qiu looked in the direction where the black energy stirred. As they drove further away, the agitation turned to calm.
"What exactly is over there?" Ye Qiu fell into contemplation, showing no trace of excitement over receiving a piece of jade worth millions.
His mind had already drifted off into the distance.
