Chapter 258: 0256 Paratroopers
Meng Chong was hearty in his demeanor, drinking with gusto, downing each cup in one go.
Huo Qian, however, couldn’t keep up. Being an ordinary person, after seven continuous cups, he slumped over the table, losing all interest in watching the thrilling fights in the arena below.
As for drinking, Ye Qiu had little interest but was not easily intoxicated, especially when the effect of his True Qi allowed him to rapidly neutralize the alcohol, making it as if he were drinking plain water.
Meng Chong glanced at Huo Qian, who was dead drunk, straightened his expression, and said, "Let’s talk business. Brother Ye, how did you find out that the man from the island country was an assassin?"
At this moment, Meng Chong had lost his previous manner of drinking large bowls and eating big chunks of meat, looking seriously at Ye Qiu across from him.
Seeing Meng Chong bring up the topic, Ye Qiu understood that Huo Qian had been intentionally made drunk by him and couldn’t help but put down his cup and coughed, saying, "Actually, I did not know that Fujikawa Ueno was the assassin, but I noticed some clues and followed them to his residence. In the end, Fujikawa Ueno confessed without being coerced, leading to the events that followed."
Meng Chong uttered an "oh," smacked his lips, and sighed, "You’re sly, we had agreed to catch the assassin together, yet you, my boy, swept them all by yourself. I’m quite envious of you, you know, because of this, your reputation in the wulin now surpasses mine."
Ye Qiu couldn’t help but smile wryly, "Brother Meng wouldn’t blame me for this, right?"
"Haha, no way, I, Meng Chong, am not so petty," Meng Chong laughed heartily.
"However, Brother Ye, it’s said that you were taken away by a mysterious master, that matter..." Meng Chong trailed off without continuing.
Ye Qiu had long anticipated that many people would be interested in where he had been taken by the mysterious master and what had happened. Meng Chong’s inquiry did not surprise him.
"That’s right, had it not been for that senior, I might have died at the hands of that man from the island country," Ye Qiu said earnestly.
"May I know who that senior is?" Meng Chong asked curiously.
Meng Chong was not the first person curious about the identity of the mysterious person, nor would he be the last.
Ye Qiu fell silent for a moment and then said, "That senior’s identity is very mysterious. He never mentioned his own identity to me, Brother Meng, I’m afraid you will be disappointed."
Meng Chong laughed, not pressing the issue further. Since Ye Qiu had said as much, it would not be appropriate to inquire further.
After all, every martial artist has their own secrets. Ye Qiu was willing to share so much because their relationship was fairly good; otherwise, if it had been anyone else, Ye Qiu probably wouldn’t have bothered saying another word.
The veil of the mysterious person remained undrawn. Meng Chong did not take offense but simply shifted the topic elsewhere.
Ye Qiu no longer mentioned anything about the mysterious person, revealing very little to Meng Chong. However, Ye Qiu believed that this would only make more people speculate about his relationship with the mysterious person.
Having the mysterious master as a significant backing, Ye Qiu wouldn’t refrain from using it. The point was to create an aura of mystery around himself in wulin to avoid troubles.
"Brother Ye, rest assured, I won’t reveal a word of our conversation today," Meng Chong said. "You treat me, Meng Chong, as a friend, and I won’t be the one to stab you in the back."
Ye Qiu shook his head and replied, "Brother Meng, I’d actually prefer if you shared our conversation with others."
Meng Chong was taken aback and asked, "Brother Ye, what do you mean by that?"
Ye Qiu explained seriously, "Think about it, Brother Meng, if I keep the identity of the mysterious person to myself, how would the people in wulin treat me?"
"They naturally would want to know everything about the mysterious person," Meng Chong replied without hesitation.
Ye Qiu snapped his fingers and said, "Exactly, if every martial artist wants to know where the mysterious person has taken me and who they really are, wouldn’t they all come asking me, or even start causing me trouble?"
Meng Chong’s eyes quickly took in Ye Qiu’s strategy and he couldn’t help but raise his thumb in approval, "Young Brother Ye, that’s a brilliant move, creating a sense of mystery for outsiders. It makes them wary of you and keeps them from going too far, right?"
"You’re absolutely right, Brother Meng. So, you don’t need to keep secrets on my behalf either—just spread my exact words. I should even thank you for this, Brother Meng," Ye Qiu said with a smile.
Meng Chong made a wry face, "Young Brother Ye, you’re even making use of me now."
"Haha, Brother Meng, please, you must help me with this," Ye Qiu laughed.
Meng Chong sighed, "Alright, I’ve chosen to be your friend after all."
Ye Qiu responded with a grateful smile and toasted Meng Chong.
After leaving the underground fighting arena, Ye Qiu put the passed-out Huo Qian into the car; the kid was completely drunk and unconscious. With no other choice, Ye Qiu had to drive Huo Qian’s car to drop him off at his home.
Seeing Ye Qiu return with Huo Qian had Uncle Ying quite surprised. After a chat, Ye Qiu hurriedly left the Huo residence and headed back to the goddess’s villa.
Ring, ring, ring...
Ye Qiu’s phone suddenly rang.
Frowning, Ye Qiu noted the unknown number on the display. Very few people had his phone number, and he wondered who was on the other end, but still, he answered the call.
"Kid, it’s me," a rough voice came from the other end of the line. Ye Qiu was first taken aback, then he quickly broke into a smile, cheekily responding, "So it’s you. Are you calling with good news? Don’t tell me you’ve finally won over Miss Jingxin."
"You little brat, you even dare to tease your master," scolded the voice on the other end with laughter.
Hearing the voice he had missed, Ye Qiu couldn’t help but picture the old lecher that was probably on the other end of the phone.
It had been a while since he left the mountain, and finally, the old lecher had made his first call to him. Ye Qiu said, "Old lecher, you must have something you want to talk about if you’re calling me."
"Haha, you monkey of a kid, you really do know what’s on my mind," laughed the old lecher.
"Ahem, old guy, if you don’t spill it, I’m going to hang up," Ye Qiu said in a proud tone.
"The world must be ending for you to dare to hang up on me. Believe it or not, I’ll come down the mountain to find you," huffed the old lecher, before speaking seriously, "I have a task for you. You have now been appointed as a member of the Dragon Group. Someone will be contacting you in the next few days. Knowing this is enough; you don’t need to do anything else."
Ye Qiu frowned and muttered, "Dragon Group?"
"Old lecher, you haven’t sold me out, have you? What’s this Dragon Group about?"
Unfortunately, the old lecher didn’t give Ye Qiu the chance to argue; a dial tone had already started to sound, indicating the call had been disconnected.
"Old lecher, I curse you never to catch Miss Jingxin’s heart in this lifetime," Ye Qiu cursed.
Meanwhile, in the room where the four members of the Dragon Group were gathered, Mu Zhige told the others, "I’ve already reported to the higher-ups about Ye Qiu. They’ve instructed that he is now a member of our Dragon Group."
"What? That S-classified person, just dropped into our group, just like that?"
All at once, Mu Zhige’s words caused the other three to stand shocked.
