Chapter 234: 0232 Precarious situation
In the tea room, where incense burned, Fujikawa Ueno held his breath, focused his mind, and meditated in tranquility.
In these days, his martial arts skills had improved by several measures. The martial arts of Huaxia had played no small part in this, enabling him to draw parallels from related concepts, which enhanced his karate expertise even further.
"What a pity, such a pity..." Fujikawa Ueno opened his eyes and heaved a sigh. Although his skills had advanced, they had not reached the breakthrough level he aspired to.
The martial arts manuals sent by Sato Tsuru had become worthless to him at this point unless he could feast his eyes on more profound and mysterious techniques. Otherwise, he felt the mountain blocking his path to the next realm would forever remain immovable.
If only he could get his hands on the ancestral secret manuals of various masters, that might just propel him to the next level.
Unfortunately, acquiring such manuals was significantly difficult, and even Sato Tsuru’s influence wasn’t enough to accomplish this. After all, this was Huaxia, where too many things were beyond their reach, and taking them by force was even more challenging.
This was Fujikawa Ueno’s regret, and it seemed he could only proceed slowly.
He had all the time to stay in Huaxia. This was something Fujikawa Ueno worried about not in the least, for as long as he retained the title of cultural exchange ambassador, the officials of Huaxia had to treat him with great courtesy, as an honored guest.
"Zisong!"
Fujikawa Ueno called out, but no answer came for a long time.
Rising to his feet, Fujikawa Ueno walked to Cui Zisong’s room, only to find it empty. He searched every corner but still did not find any trace of Cui Zisong.
"That boy..." Fujikawa Ueno’s face darkened instantly. He had warned Cui Zisong that without his permission, he must never leave this place. Yet, the boy had disregarded his words.
A surge of anger rose within Fujikawa Ueno, and he murmured, "You’d better not have gotten yourself into any trouble, or else..."
Right then, Cui Zisong returned to the tea house.
In a flash, Fujikawa Ueno was out of the room, standing in the open space, for he had already heard Cui Zisong’s footsteps.
Looking up, Cui Zisong saw his teacher not far away, staring at him with a grim face.
Cui Zisong knew he had done wrong and hurriedly ran forward, bowing his head and saying, "Teacher, why have you come out?"
Slap!
Instead of Fujikawa Ueno’s words, what greeted Cui Zisong was a slap that sent him flying.
A rebuke rang in his ears, "Who allowed you to go out?"
Even as his head buzzed and stars flashed before his eyes, Cui Zisong obediently said, "Teacher, I was wrong."
"How many times have I told you that you must not leave this tea house for a month after taking the potion? Do you take my words as mere wind passing by your ears? Or do you think your skills have improved so much that you can defy what I say?" Fujikawa Ueno snorted coldly.
Cui Zisong had never seen his teacher so angry with him, and deep down, he was a little scared, hastily admitting his fault, "It was my mistake, making the teacher worry."
"Worry? Cui Zisong, don’t you forget, I didn’t give you this power for you to just wander around, but to obey my orders," Fujikawa Ueno said.
Cui Zisong slapped his own face hard, saying, "Please forgive me, Teacher."
"Had I not gone to the birthday party, perhaps I would not have angered you," Cui Zisong explained.
"You went to a birthday party?" Upon hearing this, Fujikawa Ueno lifted an eyelid, asking indifferently.
Cui Zisong nodded earnestly, "Yes, an old classmate of mine had a birthday."
"At the party, did you reveal your transformed appearance to anyone else?" Fujikawa Ueno asked seriously.
Cui Zisong originally intended to shake his head, but under the flickering gaze of Fujikawa Ueno, he lowered his head truthfully and said, "It is my fault. I did reveal my beastly form in front of a woman."
The teeth of Fujikawa Ueno grinded with a hissing sound, as he suppressed his anger and said, "Did you do as I told you?" The implication of his words was to take care of the woman who saw Cui Zisong’s transformation.
Cui Zisong shook his head.
"You fool!" Fujikawa Ueno was furious, angrily exclaiming, "If our presence here is exposed because of you, I will make sure you pay for it."
"Besides that woman, has anyone else seen you in that form?" Fujikawa Ueno asked again.
Cui Zisong’s eyes shifted left and right, pondering how to answer this question. In truth, he was not clear whether Ye Qiu had noticed or not. Yet according to his own thinking, even if Ye Qiu had sensed something, he should not have been able to see the real scene in the restroom at that time.
With this thought, Cui Zisong affirmed with certainty, "Teacher, there is absolutely no second person who has seen my form. Please be assured of this."
Fujikawa Ueno stared into Cui Zisong’s eyes then finally said, "Stand up."
Cui Zisong instantly breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that the teacher did not pursue the matter further.
After Cui Zisong returned to his room, Fujikawa Ueno still frowned, harboring a bad feeling, particularly since Cui Zisong’s return from his outing, this ominous premonition intensified.
"Am I overthinking it?" Fujikawa Ueno murmured to himself.
...
A figure slowly stopped in front of the ancient Guan Zhai, none other than Ye Qiu himself.
Not long after Cui Zisong returned, Ye Qiu also arrived quietly.
Since he already suspected Fujikawa Ueno to be the man in black, Ye Qiu decided to test it personally.
The reason he did not report this suspicion to the southern martial arts community was firstly that he felt it a waste of time and redundant, and also, he wished to handle the man in black on his own.
If Fujikawa Ueno was indeed the man in black, Ye Qiu could not afford to be careless, lest he spook the enemy.
In the quiet of the night, Ye Qiu leapt agilely onto the teahouse. Using the beams, he swiftly moved across and jumped into the courtyard.
The entire courtyard was serene, without any sound; the ground was very clean, with only some scattered snowflakes in the corner yet to be swept away.
Ye Qiu scanned the area then, like a drifting snowflake, glided to one side. There was not a hint of light inside the room, nor any movement. Ye Qiu furrowed his brows, feeling the silence was unusually deliberate, even suspiciously so.
Suddenly, he sensed a powerful force blasting through the window directly at him.
"Not good." Sensing the killing intent, Ye Qiu instantly leaped backward, dodging the attack.
At that moment, four figures jumped out of the room whose window was shattered, and at the same time, four silhouettes slowly emerged from the room on the opposite side. Both groups moved toward Ye Qiu, closing in and surrounding him.
"Clap, clap!" In the silence of the night, the sound of clapping came from ahead. From the central room, a figure emerged, applauding.
"Very nimble, but I wonder, what brings this young friend to my place in the middle of the night?" The figure gradually revealed his face; it was Fujikawa Ueno with a tuft of beard at his chin.
Fujikawa Ueno stared coldly at Ye Qiu, and gradually, a look of surprise appeared on his face, and he suddenly laughed, "So it’s you."
Ye Qiu watched Fujikawa Ueno and the eight tall men surrounding him. He let out a wry smile, realizing that he had willingly walked right into the wolf’s den!
Leaving tonight would not be easy.
