Chapter 223: 0221 recruit apprentices?
"I wonder if Young Master Ye has any thoughts of taking on disciples?" Deputy Director Wang said.
Taking on disciples?
Ye Qiu didn’t understand what Deputy Director Wang meant. What does he mean by taking disciples?
Seeing the look of confusion on Ye Qiu’s face, Deputy Director Wang explained, "Here’s the thing: since your teacher left your place that day and returned to the Capital City, he said some things about you. Plus, the old leaders confirmed your prescriptions and said you are a famous doctor. Now, people have been pulling strings to get to me, hoping they could learn Chinese medicine from you."
Ye Qiu scratched his head. It must be a mistake, for him to teach others Chinese medicine? His first thought was to refuse.
"Deputy Director Wang, as you know, learning Chinese medicine requires not just talent, but also patience and determination. Otherwise, if one gives up halfway, all the previous efforts become useless."
Ye Qiu’s words struck a chord with Deputy Director Wang. After all, wasn’t he also speaking about him? However, Deputy Director Wang didn’t want to dwell on this problem. He had been asked by someone to get Ye Qiu to agree to teach the art of Chinese medicine.
"Young Master Ye, you can rest assured that these individuals already have a foundation in Chinese medicine. Learning from you won’t be difficult," Deputy Director Wang said.
"Deputy Director Wang, as far as I know, having a foundation in Chinese medicine means they already have a teacher. Snatching away someone else’s disciples is something I, Ye Qiu, cannot do. Besides, I really don’t have that much time to spend on teaching Chinese medicine," Ye Qiu said quite directly.
"Young Master Ye, I understand that you have your own matters to attend to, but you’ve seen the state of Chinese medicine today. It’s being completely suppressed by Western medicine. As someone with exquisite medical skills, don’t you want to restore the good name of Chinese medicine?"
"I know you’re afraid of the troubles, but you could pass on your knowledge to others. If these people could have the same exquisite medical skills as you, our nation’s Chinese medicine shouldn’t worry about making a comeback," Deputy Director Wang said passionately.
Ye Qiu always felt there was something off about these words. After digesting them, he realized—wasn’t this just about learning his skills and then becoming famous? Perhaps he was being too narrow-minded. Maybe Deputy Director Wang genuinely came with the intention to revive Chinese medicine.
"Well then, if that’s the case, bring those few people over when you have a chance. I’ll see how their understanding of Chinese medicine is. If it’s feasible, I’ll consider it," Ye Qiu finally relented, leaving Deputy Director Wang overjoyed. Excited, he said, "Good, now that Young Master Ye has said this, my mind is at ease. I’ll contact those people right away."
Deputy Director Wang left the Goddess Villa in a cheerful mood. The reason Ye Qiu finally capitulated was partly due to Deputy Director Wang’s persistence, and partly because he wanted to see for himself who these people wanting to take him as their master really were.
"You’re going to take disciples!" Shangguan Mingyue teased.
Ye Qiu replied with a wry smile, "It’s all because of you, otherwise none of these folks would be thinking of taking me as their master."
Shangguan Mingyue said, "Don’t act like you’re put upon when you’re actually getting a good deal. With the medical skills you possess, who would know that our Chinese medicine is in no way inferior to Western medicine if you don’t share it? Now you’ve got people’s attention, not only is Wu Youmin praising you, but even Weng Lao came to see you personally. It’s no surprise that some people want to take you as their master."
On reflection, that made sense, but these people sure were well-informed; it hadn’t been that long, yet they already knew. With people seeking out Deputy Director Wang, it must be that many knew about him curing Mother Chu and Elder Shangguan.
"Alright, let’s not talk about this for now. We’ll wait till those who want to take me as their master come," Ye Qiu glanced at the time, preparing to head to the beach to continue ’stealing’ knowledge from the mystery person.
Shangguan Mingyue watched Ye Qiu’s hurried figure and muttered, "I never know what he’s so busy with, always so secretive."
Ye Qiu arrived at the seaside where the sea breeze was sharp like a knife, stinging the face.
What a fierce wind!
Ye Qiu waited for a while, only to discover that the mystery person was not there today. Normally, that fellow would have already appeared.
Ye Qiu concentrated and waited for another half an hour, but the mystery person still did not show up. It seemed that person would not be coming today.
During this time, Ye Qiu had learned quite a lot from the mystery person, particularly after his own contemplation and the mystery person’s demonstrations, his True Qi Shield had improved significantly.
Ye Qiu no longer hid himself and stood on the rock where the mystery person usually stood.
The closer to the winter sea, the more piercing the cold could be felt; even a martial artist would not be able to withstand the long periods of being blown by the sea breeze.
Ye Qiu focused his gaze on the sea. Previously, a mysterious person had stood here for three hours before jumping in and disappearing without a trace.
Ye Qiu wondered where the mysterious person could have gone afterward. Could he have stayed in the sea the whole time?
Although it seemed impossible, the mysterious person’s temperament made it seem like he could possibly do such a thing.
Waves constantly hit the reef, and before long, Ye Qiu’s clothes were wet. Combined with the low temperature, they soon froze into ice.
Ye Qiu was lost in thought, and it was only when he realized that his clothes were mostly wet that he used his True Qi to dry them through his skin.
Then, his eyes changed, and his whole body seemed to emit an aura that burst from him, vaguely enveloping him.
Invisible Qi Shield!
With a move of his mind, Ye Qiu indeed managed to create an Invisible Qi Shield using the mysterious person’s methods, but in comparison to the mysterious person’s, his was still far inferior.
This was because his Invisible Qi Shield was visible, a white True Qi visible to the naked eye.
The True Qi Shield formed and blocked the waves, but Ye Qiu still frowned. This short breath’s use of True Qi had consumed a fifth of it, which was nowhere near the mysterious person’s ability to stand for three hours.
There had to be a problem!
Ye Qiu knew his speculation was not perfect; with such consumption, even with a True Qi Shield it was not cost-effective, and he could feel that this kind of True Qi Shield would only shield against wind and waves. Against a powerful impact, it would be easily shattered.
How to solve this problem— even if it consumed True Qi, it should at least be powerful enough to achieve the desired effect.
Ye Qiu bowed his head in contemplation and dissipated the True Qi Shield, keeping warm with True Qi.
After a long moment of silence, Ye Qiu remembered the mysterious person’s jump and suddenly had an epiphany. Could the mysterious person be using the vast sea to cultivate?
As soon as the thought occurred to him, for some reason, Ye Qiu became more and more certain.
Ye Qiu glanced at the sea water continuously surging beneath the reef and decided to put his theory to the test.
After a moment of silence, his expression lifted; he leaped forward and jumped into the sea!
...
The Vice Dean of the academy left the goddess’s villa and found those who wished to take Ye Qiu as a master. Hearing that Ye Qiu agreed to meet them, they were not surprised.
"Vice Dean Wang, you truly did not let us down."
"Indeed, once we learn the Thirty-Six Needles of Hua Tuo from that lad, you, Vice Dean Wang, will be the first to get the credit."
"I think it’s about time Vice Dean Wang ceased being a vice dean. Once this is accomplished, why don’t we use our own influence to help remove the ’vice’ from your title?"
Vice Dean Wang listened to these words, feeling joy in his heart while maintaining the proper respectful demeanor. He said, "We should not delay. Shall we go to see Ye Qiu now?"
The individuals looked at each other and nodded. "Indeed, we’ll manage the discomfort of learning the Thirty-Six Needles of Hua Tuo. Enduring this minor indignity to take him as a master is nothing. Let’s go."
