Chapter 203: Chinese tycoons of 0201

Shangguan Mingyue looked at Ye Qiu and chuckled, "What’s the matter? I thought you were fearless."

Ye Qiu shrugged his shoulders and raised the corner of his mouth, "I respect some of China’s good officials, but I don’t fear them. It’s just the sight of the ancient architecture in front of me that makes me rather reflective."

Shangguan Mingyue rolled her eyes at Ye Qiu and then made a phone call before pulling him towards the main entrance.

Early that morning, Ye Qiu had been woken up by Shangguan Mingyue, who told him that he could start helping her. After a hurried breakfast, she drove him to the Capital City.

They passed through several layers of security before reaching this point.

Shangguan Mingyue seemed to be a regular visitor, for the guards didn’t even request her identification before letting them through. Ye Qiu was slightly surprised by this; Shangguan Mingyue’s influence was indeed powerful, allowing her unrestricted access to even the highest centers of power.

Shangguan Ming led Ye Qiu through halls adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, and a sea-like dampness hit them face-on.

Ye Qiu was surprised to find a lake as vast as the sea hidden within.

No wonder he had guessed the reason behind the name after surveying the surroundings.

Looking into the distance, there was an island-like landmass, equally filled with ancient buildings, connected by a road.

The scenery was exceptionally beautiful, with the autumn water merging with the Chang Tian under the clear light, creating a scene of unforgettable beauty.

Walking along the path leading to the island, after more than ten minutes, Shangguan Mingyue brought Ye Qiu to a pavilion with the best view.

Ye Qiu saw five elders sitting in the pavilion, sipping tea and enjoying the breeze.

"Uncles, Mingyue sends her greetings to each of you," Shangguan Mingyue approached the five elders, transforming completely from a goddess to a young girl, performing salutations for each of the elders.

"Little Mingyue is here."

"I’ve actually missed this girl a bit; it’s been days."

"Mingyue always surprises us. Last time, she explained economic reforms from around the world, what surprise do you have for us today?"

The five elders spoke one after another, clearly very fond of Shangguan Mingyue.

"My uncles, this time Mingyue is not here to talk about economies. Remember the person I mentioned last time? I’ve brought him with me today," Shangguan Mingyue said, directing everyone’s attention to Ye Qiu.

"Oh? Is this the young man who cured the illness of the young official?" one of the elders scrutinized Ye Qiu more closely.

"Uncle Chief, it was he who cured my father’s cancer," Shangguan Mingyue replied.

The five elders looked sideways, already aware of the cancer affliction of Shangguan Mingyue’s father, they had not expected it could be cured.

Ye Qiu stood under the elders’ scrutiny, maintaining a composed appearance, but his mind was in turmoil. He had not misheard just now—this elder, with his thinning hair and square face, had referred to Shangguan Mingyue’s father as Guan Mingyue. Just who was he? To dare address Mr. Shangguan so casually, his official rank must be frighteningly high.

Shangguan Mingyue showed no displeasure at the elder’s reference to her father, still smiling graciously, which was enough to indicate the unusual status of this individual.

"Indeed, my China is a place where hidden dragons and crouching tigers abide. I see this young man is quite young yet was able to cure young Guan Mingyue. May I ask from which family of medical lineage he hails?" the square-faced elder asked.

"Ye Qiu, Uncle Chief is asking you something. You must tell the truth," Shangguan Mingyue deliberately glanced at Ye Qiu.

Ye Qiu was momentarily distracted but quickly composed himself, given the circumstances, and said to the elder, "I was raised by my master from a young age and do not come from any medical lineage. I hope you will forgive me."

Ye Qiu’s demeanor was humble, yet he stood firm like bamboo in the wind, with his hands clasped in a fist and his head slightly bowed; this was simply his way of showing respect to the elders present.

The square-faced elder exclaimed in surprise and scrutinized Ye Qiu, observing his upright stance which resembled the unyielding green mountains and bamboo. He could not help but show a bit of admiration, finally resting his gaze on Ye Qiu’s clasped hands.

"You know martial arts?"

"I’ve learned a bit from my master since childhood. I’m certainly no expert," Ye Qiu replied. Only Shangguan Mingyue, upon hearing this, clearly pursed her lips, hardly believing Ye Qiu’s claim of mere ’basics.’

That same scent of Hua Tuo’s thirty-six needles he had claimed were just ’a hair of nine oxen’, barely even the basics, yet wasn’t it he who cured Father’s cancer?

Playing the modest card now, could this be an excessive display of humility! Shangguan Mingyue really wanted to knock some sense into Ye Qiu.

"Ha ha, good, skilled in both martial arts and medical skills, young and promising. If China had more young people like you, our rise would be unstoppable," the square-faced elder laughed heartily.

"Uncle Chief, this time I brought Ye Qiu here precisely to treat your ailments, and his acupuncture skills are extraordinary," Shangguan Mingyue said.

"Acupuncture, the quintessence of our China! I did not expect that in today’s domination by Western medicine, there are still young people willing to learn the art of Chinese medicine, not abandoning this heritage. Young man, you are impressive," praised the square-faced elder.

Shangguan Mingyue said to Ye Qiu, "Uncle Chief seldom praises anyone so easily. Receiving his praise today is your great fortune."

Ye Qiu had a smile on his face, seemingly unfazed by the compliment.

"Since Mingyue has brought him here, should we not let him take a look?" the square-faced elder looked toward the other four people.

"I trust Chinese medicine more than those cold, mechanical examinations of Western medicine," another elder responded.

The other three elders had no objections either and were eager to witness Ye Qiu’s medical skills; they wondered whether this man who had cured cancer could also fix the chronic ailments they suffered from over the years.

Just as the five seniors were about to consent to Ye Qiu’s examination, a police officer suddenly said, "Old Chief, this man’s identity is unknown; please do not let him administer treatment readily, in case he is here to assassinate, I’m afraid it might..."

Upon hearing this, Shangguan Mingyue’s face darkened immediately, and her gaze toward the police officer turned somewhat ice-cold.

If there were any issues with Ye Qiu, it would solely be her, Shangguan Mingyue’s responsibility. Such a statement was nothing but heart-wrenching. Could this police officer harbor some grudge against the Shangguan family?

"No worries, since Mingyue brought him, I trust her. We few old fellows have long retired from state affairs; it should be fine," the words of the square-faced elder immediately changed Shangguan Mingyue’s expression and also caused the police officer to sheepishly back down, easing the awkward situation.

"Thank you, Uncles, for your trust in Mingyue. I have always regarded you as my own fathers," Shangguan Mingyue earnestly said. "Ye Qiu, show your medical skills, don’t let them look down on you. For each day the old chiefs live a long and healthy life, it is another day the people of China can live richer, more peaceful, and happier lives."

Ye Qiu glanced at the police officer but didn’t take it to heart, whether he was genuinely trying to protect the old chiefs or deliberately targeting Shangguan Mingyue, Ye Qiu wasn’t overly concerned. He was, however, moved by Shangguan Mingyue’s last remark.
