Chapter 167: 0165 special appointment?
After Chu’s mother opened the door, she saw an old face full of smiles!
Chu’s mother really wanted to pretend she hadn’t seen him and close the door, but she was stopped by the visitor’s words.
"Big sister, you can’t do this. After all, I was the one who treated you when you were hospitalized. You’ll break my heart if you act like this."
The speaker was none other than Deputy Director Wang of ZS City Hospital.
"What is it?" Chu’s mother wanted to get rid of Deputy Director Wang quickly. These days, for some reason, he kept knocking on her door, asking how to contact Ye Qiu. How would she know? After several visits, Chu’s mother ran out of patience, especially since she was a widow. It wasn’t right for an old man to be knocking on her door so often, and if her neighbours saw it, there would be all sorts of gossip. She didn’t want to become the subject of neighborhood chatter.
"When my daughter comes back, I’ll get the contact information for you. Please go back for now." Chu’s mother said this with the intention of closing the door. Today was the perfect opportunity to bring her daughter and Ye Qiu together, and she didn’t want Deputy Director Wang’s appearance to ruin the chance.
"When is Chu Yao coming back? At this hour, she should be at home," said Deputy Director Wang, who had no intention of leaving just yet. He was determined to get Ye Qiu’s contact information.
"She’s asleep. Let’s talk about it tomorrow." With that, Chu’s mother started to pull the door closed.
Deputy Director Wang, standing outside, suddenly smelled the fragrance of food and said with a smile, "Big sister, your cooking is impressive. It smells so delicious, and I can smell it from so far away. Chu Yao must be eating."
When the people outside mentioned the name Chu Yao, Ye Qiu and Chu Yao, who were eating at the dining table, saw Chu’s mother standing at the door without closing it and Chu Yao couldn’t help asking, "Mom, who is that outside?"
Chu Yao’s voice clearly reached Deputy Director Wang outside, and his eyes turned to Chu’s mother. Her lie was immediately exposed, and her face showed an awkward embarrassment.
Deputy Director Wang said with a laugh, "Chu Yao isn’t asleep, so why don’t you just get Ye Qiu’s contact information for me now."
"What’s the matter tomor..."
Before Chu’s mother could finish speaking, Deputy Director Wang pulled the door open, thrust half his body inside, and suddenly saw Chu Yao sitting at the dining table with a young man beside her: it was precisely the Ye Qiu he had been looking for.
"Big sister, this is not very honest of you. Chu Yao isn’t asleep, and there’s Ye Qiu eating at your house. You tell me, why did you lie to me?" As Deputy Director Wang spoke, he began to move into the house. Chu’s mother was in no position to stop him anymore and let Deputy Director Wang enter.
Seeing Deputy Director Wang suddenly appear, both Ye Qiu and Chu Yao were a little surprised and puzzled as to why he had come.
Ye Qiu’s thoughts even drifted further. Could it be that Deputy Director Wang was trying to pursue Chu’s mother?
Deputy Director Wang acted as if he were quite at home, especially when he saw Ye Qiu, nearly glowing with excitement, and without being polite, he moved a chair and sat down next to Ye Qiu, showing none of the authority he had in the hospital.
"Young brother Ye Qiu, you’ve made me search so hard for you!" said Deputy Director Wang.
"What do you want with me?" Ye Qiu looked at Deputy Director Wang, puzzled, as he seemed to have little to do with him.
Upon hearing this, Deputy Director Wang felt a bitter twinge in his heart.
The recovery of Chu Yao’s mother’s illness had already spread among various hospitals. From a patient with a brain tumor in critical condition, little by little, as acupuncture took effect, the tumors disappeared, until the patient was finally discharged. This was already a tale making rounds in all the major hospitals.
Even the hospital director came to inquire personally about the matter.
The director criticized him harshly for not keeping someone as talented as Ye Qiu at the hospital when he had the chance.
Deputy Director Wang was truly at a loss for words, as he did try to retain him, but Ye Qiu had no interest, especially since the offer had little to offer in terms of benefits. Why would he stay at their hospital to treat others?
After reviewing the medical reports of Chu Yao’s mother repeatedly, and upon Wang’s repeated confirmation that no one other than Ye Qiu had treated her, the director set his sights on Ye Qiu as a talent.
He instructed Deputy Director Wang to take charge of the matter and ensure that Ye Qiu was retained at the City Hospital at all costs, to prevent other hospitals from poaching him.
With no choice but to comply, Deputy Director Wang was not in a rush like the other hospitals scouring for the doctor who cured Chu Yao’s mother. He had an advantage, knowing that Ye Qiu was treating the Shangguan family’s patriarch, and he could wait until after to approach Ye Qiu.
But then Deputy Director Wang lost his calm when Ye Qiu cured Shangguan patriarch’s disease, which had left everyone else at a loss.
Especially when he saw the mass media, websites, and newspapers all reporting on the news about traditional Chinese medicine curing cancer cells, Deputy Director Wang felt a rush of excitement and could barely contain his joy.
Others may not recognize the person in the side profile picture in those reports, but Deputy Director Wang could—it was undoubtedly Ye Qiu!
A great talent indeed!
With Ye Qiu’s emergence, he saw a rising star in traditional Chinese medicine that shone as brilliantly as those in Western medicine.
Consequently, Deputy Director Wang was determined not to let other hospitals snatch Ye Qiu away.
He began to find ways to contact Ye Qiu only to discover that meeting the young man was no easy feat.
Ye Qiu’s whereabouts were erratic, and it was not feasible for him to stake out around the goddess’s villa 24 hours a day. He could only rush to wherever he heard Ye Qiu might be, but unfortunately, he still failed to meet Ye Qiu face to face. In the end, he directed his attention to Chu Yao’s mother because Deputy Director Wang knew that Chu Yao seemed to have a close relationship with Ye Qiu. To find Ye Qiu, he could start from Chu Yao.
This led to the multiple disturbances to Chu Yao’s mother, asking for Ye Qiu’s contact information.
"I won’t beat around the bush," said Deputy Director Wang as he suddenly produced an appointment certificate and placed it on the table in front of Ye Qiu and Chu Yao, leaving mother and daughter speechless.
"This is the best benefit I can secure for you. As long as you agree, the hospital will establish a department of traditional Chinese medicine with you as its head. Naturally, your compensation will be equal to mine, allowing you to participate in the year-end bonus and enjoy shares of the hospital."
Chu Yao’s mother was shocked by the conditions laid out by Deputy Director Wang. Her desire for Ye Qiu to become her son-in-law grew even stronger. Ye Qiu truly was a promising talent; in just a few days, he had received such high regards from a municipal hospital and was offered such a lucrative deal. She could not let her daughter pass up such an outstanding man.
As Chu Yao’s mother, Chu Yao herself, and Deputy Director Wang all fixed their gazes on Ye Qiu, waiting for his answer, he finally spoke. "I’m sorry to disappoint you," he said slowly, "but I am not interested in becoming a department head."
His reply took everyone by surprise, including Deputy Director Wang; even Chu Yao’s mother was astounded. With such a lucrative offer, it was inconceivable to her that Ye Qiu would refuse. Yet, contrary to everyone’s expectations, he did.
