Chapter 473: Chapter 14 What Lock to Pick, Just Tear Down the Wall_1
1:30 a.m.
This was the time when most should have been asleep.
In other cities of Noah, anyone wandering about at this hour could almost directly be labeled as being up to no good.
However, in Nata County, the streets and alleys were still lively.
The players witnessed three raggedly dressed children shooting three poison arrows with hand crossbows at a man who had just rounded a corner; they saw an old man with white hair and a white beard pushing a cart containing a slightly struggling small burlap sack; they came across a woman’s leg wearing red high-heels, lying forlornly beside a trash bin.
But in fact, Andersen and the others had thought that Nata County would be more chaotic, more bustling at night. For example, buildings being blown up, or direct home invasions and such... rather than walking half the city before encountering these few incidents.
Looking back now, it was easy to understand.
After all, Nata County hadn’t suddenly turned out this way. There was an unremitting sense of panic and fear in people’s hearts.
People had adapted to living here.
Those who wanted to make headlines, if they wanted to stir up some trouble, would surely have already done so. There were no longer any "civilians" here. With everybody having a certain understanding of each other, a kind of tacit agreement had formed instead.
Or, it could be interpreted that the forces here had reached a "stalemate."
Unless an opportunity arose to break the balance... such as a new tough guy coming in from outside, or some new fat sheep, otherwise it was relatively peaceful.
There were even two groups that attacked them.
The first group consisted of three men, each brandishing a flintlock gun and a decent quality scimitar at their waists, seemingly intent on robbing them; the second group had five people, two carrying rifles, two Bronze-tier Transcendents, along with a short, lame old Ritualist, apparently aiming to capture them all.
— And the outcome for these two groups was simply contributing some extra equipment and ammunition to the Delicious Wind Goose and their companions, followed by Dirtying Defu’s fur.
Those three buffoons didn’t even get a chance to fire a shot.
All they did was stare at the monster teacher fumbling for money.
What happened next was that the silver coin in the monster teacher’s hand suddenly turned into a streak of silver light. The resonant shockwave bisected the torso of one of the men, blood and froth spraying everywhere.
They clearly hadn’t expected that a cleric of the Silver Baron would come to Nata County. In the momentary panic of their enemies, Defu, who had already stealthily approached from behind, delivered a kick to the neck of one, breaking it while using the momentum to leap towards another. A single swipe of her paw struck the temple of the man.
All three died instantly.
As they gradually became accustomed to killing people, the power of the Transcendents became immediately apparent.
The second group, although seemingly more powerful... ended up dying even more miserably.
That was because Delicious Wind Goose had made his move.
Recognizing the Ritualist’s extraction of frog innards in the street as preparation for the "Summoning Paralysis Cloud" ritual, Delicious Wind Goose decided to act immediately.
Before either side could react, Delicious Wind Goose, silently landing behind their formation, crouched slightly, converting nearly all his strength into agility, and in a blur of motion, appeared instantly in front of Andersen.
Andersen, almost subconsciously, thought to raise his shield.
But before he could lift his shield, Delicious Wind Goose had already drawn his blade from its sheath.
The blade, flashing a dazzling silver light, slashed through the air with a moonlight-like sword energy.
— This was the "Steady Sweep" from the Guard Sword Skill, used when trapped and attempting to charge in a single direction.
However, with the empowerment of the "Sword Saint" ability, the sweeping sword energy cut through all five people in an instant.
All five were severed at the waist.
A single strike was all it took to kill them.
The corpses of the two Transcendents began to wither and crumble, leaving behind a dagger and an empty potion bottle, respectively.
These were their "Nightmare Keys."
"Incredible, are silver-tier fighters this strong?"
Andersen was dumbfounded, "You weren’t like this before you advanced!"
If Delicious Wind Goose had been an enemy, Andersen wouldn’t have been able to defend against this strike.
Unless he had already known he would do this, anticipating at least one second in advance... his reaction speed was no match for the movement speed of Delicious Wind Goose.
Delicious Wind Goose took a deep breath, the dark red rune on the back of his right hand gradually receding.
"It’s Curse Binding," he explained.
Delicious Wind Goose’s original ability, "Lucky Tumble", had already saved his life several times. The new Curse Binding he had gained upon advancement brought with it a huge boost, even though it had very large limitations.
His new Curse Binding was named "Crossriver Pawn".
While "Blade Drawn", Delicious Wind Goose was not allowed to "turn and run away". Like a pawn crossing the river in a game of chess — capable of moving side to side, capable of advancing forward, but unable to retreat backward; otherwise, as he moved back, his strength would rapidly weaken, even to the point of his muscles withering.
Although they couldn’t turn back, movements like "back jumping" and "rolling backwards" were still allowed.
If they wanted to turn around, they would have to sheathe their swords... or throw them directly on the ground.
On the other hand—as long as Delicious Goose pressed forward with his sword unsheathed and kept advancing, the power of his next attack would keep accumulating. Based on the distance and time he moved, it could reach up to three times the usual strength.
This was why he always stayed at the very back of the team—
If the enemy attacked from behind, Delicious Goose could turn around and unsheathe his sword to deal with the enemy first, without worrying that the rear would be cut off while he was fighting at the front, unable to provide support.
And if the enemy appeared at the very front and the teammates struggled to fight back,
he could utilize the distance from the back to the front of the team to charge—thus amplifying the power of his first "Sword Qi" attack through Curse Binding.
This was a tactic they had agreed upon in advance.
Although to fully unleash the power of Curse Binding, they would need to charge about sixty meters, even the five to six meters they had would raise the power by about 40% to 50%.
Having some increase was better than none at all.
"Neckless, how much Sword Qi have you used?"
Defu sent a private message to Delicious Goose with a serious tone, "Your charging distance shouldn’t have increased the power that much."
Delicious Goose calmly glanced at the cat and replied, "I still have plenty left, I have eight bars of Qi."
Andersen also frowned, "You used two bars? Isn’t that a bit wasteful?"
It took Delicious Goose three hours of meditation to accumulate one bar of Sword Qi.
And he could store a maximum of ten bars on his person.
The players were basically certain that for the first few days upon reaching Nata County, there definitely wouldn’t be time for him to meditate slowly and recover resources. This wasn’t like the Mana Pool, which naturally replenished with the rise and set of the sun – using a bit truly meant having a bit less.
This is why they adopted such a tactic—letting the tanks and healers sell face at the front, while a melee DPS class stood at the very back.
This was to provide old Goose with the distance to charge, to compensate for power and save Sword Qi resources.
"Being able to take the initiative and maintain our good condition, that is the greatest efficiency."
Delicious Goose was, in fact, very calm, "Resources are meant to be used at times like this. Some things can’t be coveted."
He squinted his eyes towards the front and spoke softly, "Moreover, so far we are still in stealth mode, and that is the most meaningful."
"Half a street ahead is Rotten Tooth 21. If we make too much noise here and alert them, losing the element of surprise later would be a bigger problem."
As the critical moment drew nearer, Delicious Goose became even more composed.
There were definitely lookouts near the target.
It was just common sense.
Not to stop them... but to keep an eye on the other two factions.
To deal with the sentries, Defu had already entered stealth mode and, under the cover of night, silently inched forward along the walls.
After a roundabout route that took roughly fifteen minutes, she silently killed one sentry and one sentinel, then posted a screenshot on the forum.
"—They are on a one-on-one watch system, with two hidden and two visible sentries. I couldn’t get past the last hidden one... He is inside the target location, and after circling twice I couldn’t sneak in. The sentinel he’s watching is around the corner ahead; and that sentinel is looking in the opposite direction from us. I’ve marked the exact locations."
"The sentinel isn’t watching our direction, so they might not notice us. Should I force kill the hidden one? Breaking the window may draw attention... or should we go for a direct kill?"
Defu posed the question to Delicious Goose.
Andersen also turned his head toward Delicious Goose, "Boss, what should we do? We didn’t bring a thief."
How should they break in?
Or should they sneak in through a window?
Honestly, he was a bit nervous.
In previous large-scale events, his participation hadn’t been nearly as substantial.
Now, to take on the role of the defender in an assault... even one that had elements of assassination, he began to doubt if he was up to the task.
"No need for arrows, just kill our way in."
Delicious Goose’s eyes narrowed slightly, "You guys sneak in first. I’ll charge from here, delivering a three-bar Sword Qi blast directly at the wall... A triple-amplified strike should be able to shatter the wall, and kill a good number of those still standing inside.
"Then you guys immediately engage the enemy—Chocolate will take down the sentinel left outside, then back us up, and everyone else follow me in through the breach!"
If you can go through a wall, don’t use a window; if you can go through a window, don’t use a door.
This was... a skill taught to him by Hammer Bro.
