Chapter 369: Chapter 366: The Brush of Unreality_1

Annan had realized that this gentle youth who suddenly pulled him into an illusion was none other than Nicholas, whom he had mentioned to Nolan earlier.

Should it be said, "Speak of the devil and he shall appear"...

Though he looked gentle and melancholy, harmless like a young artist grieving the passing of spring.

Yet, Nicholas wasn’t so courteous when he spoke—even a hint of divine pity and arrogance could be subtly tasted.

However, the person Nicholas was facing at the moment... was a bona fide deity.

The instant Annan heard that cold female voice, he felt strange fluctuations emerge in the space.

Distorted, amber traces appeared rapidly, like transparent lemon-colored jellies, within the pure white space.

It was as if the world in front of him was a white canvas, with someone carelessly dabbing a brush soaked in amber paint through the air—

Several lines of bizarre beauty enclosed Nicholas completely, looking like many ink-painting style petals had bloomed beside him. It was a completely different style from him, yet it enhanced the aesthetic significantly.

A silver-haired maiden, who could only be described as "beautiful," seemed to be sketched hastily in mid-air—a quickly formed shape made of black and white lines before being imbued with color.

"Is it the Paper Princess?"

Nicholas responded flatly, "It has been a long time... Lady Paper Princess."

"Nicholas?"

Paper Princess frowned slightly and warned, "He is not Tan Juan Geraint. He is Annan Winter—step back, or I will attack you."

"Actually, I harbor no hostility towards His Highness Annan, Lady Paper Princess."

The youth said with a warm smile.

But while he said this, his actions did not stop.

The pattern on the back of his hand resembled a Rose family plant with incredibly complex colors.

Different petals bore different colors—black, red, blue, purple, yellow, evenly spread over each petal, almost every petal differing in color from the adjacent ones. Activating different colored patterns created entirely different circuits instantaneously.

As the black, purple circuits on his left hand and the black, red, blue circuits on his right hand lit up, the white, thread-like light that had been lingering at his fingertips transformed in an instant into an ever-expanding, translucent, soft orb of light.

As if blown by breath, the orb expanded swiftly, taking on a new form like a huge bronze bell, encasing Nicholas within it.

But as the orb continued to expand, it came into contact with the surrounding ink-like amber traces—

The moment it touched those amber traces lingering in the void, the inside of the orb was fixed in place... as if time itself had been paused.

By then, the Paper Princess had already appeared beside Annan.

"Step back, Annan."

Paper Princess’s voice was cold.

With her back to Annan, she stood in front of him. Her left arm hung down straight, her hand grasping a long brush about twenty-four or twenty-five centimeters long, akin to holding a dagger in reverse.

Annan clearly saw the brush dipped in amber paint.

Her right hand, meanwhile, was raised horizontally to shield Annan completely behind her.

Between the fingers of her right hand, she held both a red pencil and a fountain pen that was dripping dark blue ink.

After the light orb had its time halted by the amber traces, the Paper Princess’s dexterous right hand began to move swiftly—

Dark blue thunderclouds quickly gathered in the air.

Underneath the clouds, crimson lightning began to accumulate rapidly. Dark red, fearsome thunderbolts twisted within the clouds... and there was even a strange odor faintly detectable in the air, like a light breeze after a thunderstorm.

And in just a few short seconds, a streak of crimson lightning descended from the sky—striking the orb of light fiercely and shattering it instantly!

A loud rumbling sound erupted as the lightning struck!

The ground even trembled slightly, accompanied by a tingling sensation.

After the red lightning dissipated, the air crackled with tiny sparks of red electricity, constantly snapping and popping.

At the same time, chains of deep blue ice rapidly took shape on the ground. Dark blue chains of ice, spreading from the earth, rigidly fixed Nicholas’s feet to the ground and continued to climb upward.

By then, the second bolt of crimson lightning was already gathering in the sky.

But at that moment,

the circuits on the back of Nicholas’s hand began to flicker rapidly.

Or rather... they were switching at high speed.

From the verge of dissipation of the phantom light orb shattered by the crimson lightning, several sharp and twisted white circuits emerged. Sharp blades then sprouted from the front end of the circuits, autonomously charging towards Annan like hounds.

Like the traces on a circuit board, the twisted circuits spread rapidly through the air, attempting to bypass the Paper Princess and strike at Annan.

But strangely... Annan didn’t feel the slightest trace of killing intent from them.

...Could it be that Nicholas truly harbored no killing intent towards him?

What was he doing now then...

In the face of Nicholas’s actions, which disregarded all warnings, Lady Paper Princess’s stern expression did not show the slightest disturbance.

She lifted her left hand holding a paintbrush and swiftly added a few strokes in mid-air.

Flickering amber traces landed in the void, freezing those streaks of light mid-air. As the amber color spread along the trails of light, more of them were momentarily paused—yet several more light streaks continued to split from the ends of the traces and lunged at Annan before the amber could reach them!

"What on earth are you thinking?"

Paper Princess frowned slightly.

Suddenly, a short brush appeared in her right hand.

With a flick of the brush in her hand, dozens of metallic color paint dots flew out, transforming into a series of iron shields in the air, which landed with pinpoint accuracy on the meandering light circuits.

With a succession of screeching, acidic noises, the iron shields were perforated by the light circuits in the blink of an eye. But as the shields shattered and disappeared, the sharp light traces that penetrated them transformed into white paint, drip-dripping and falling to the ground.

However, at that moment, when Annan looked again... Nicholas had already vanished from the pure white space. The icy shackles on the ground had turned into wet, cracked clay.

Yet, the sudden escape of Nicholas didn’t seem to surprise the Paper Princess.

She simply returned the brushes to her waist, turned around, and crouched down in front of Annan with some concern.

At the sight of the Paper Princess, Annan too was struck by a beauty that surpassed common perception. But he quickly regained his composure and, unlike the old goose, he didn’t experience any illusion or receive new influences.

...As if he had already become accustomed to this "beauty."

But this made sense.

After all, Annan himself was a copy of this beauty. He even possessed elements of "beauty" that had not yet fully awakened within himself.

What surprised Annan was... the first reaction of the Paper Princess as she leaned in was to touch her own head, then stretch out a hand to pinch her own face.

"Are you alright, Annan?"

Paper Princess looked at Annan eye to eye, gently stroking his hair while softly asking with concern, "Did he hurt you?"
