Chapter 1061: Chapter 119 God of Creation

"It’s just a quick look around."

But Paper Princess rarely got to see Annan... and given her poor sense of time, a quick look turned into half a day.

Although Annan had hinted many times that maybe they should first meet Yawen and then go shopping with her...

Paper Princess was quite clingy.

Annan wasn’t even sure whether Paper Princess was accompanying him to shop, or if he was accompanying his "little aunt" to shop...

Paper Princess kept buying various snacks, clothes, and accessories for Annan. She took Annan around Dennisiowa, stuffing him with food she thought was tasty. Most outrageous of all, she even bought him a villa right next to the headquarters of the Paper Princess Church.

Yes, Paper Princess had her own church in Dennisiowa, and it was quite large... After all, more artists hoped to receive guidance from Paper Princess or had been helped by her than from Yawen.

The greatest return these painters could offer... was to help Paper Princess operate her church. In return, Paper Princess would grant them a certain amount of Transcendent sigils as salary.

Thus, while Paper Princess did not manage her own church and was constantly traveling the world selling "limited edition enchanted paintings" to help struggling painters earn a living, she unexpectedly gained many followers who were promoted to "bishops."

As Annan shopped with Paper Princess on the streets, he often saw people bowing to her.

Those who could withstand the Beauty of Paper Princess without losing their sanity... and were thus allowed by Paper Princess to see her, were almost all her bishops.

Seeing their divine Paper Princess showing affectionate gestures with Duke Annan, they were initially surprised—however, their professional integrity as skilled painters allowed them to quickly notice the similarities between Paper Princess and Annan’s faces.

Hence, they looked at Annan with newfound respect.

Annan suddenly realized...

The reason Paper Princess took him out during the day.

She probably wanted her church’s bishops to "recognize" him, preventing them from foolishly troubling him. She was also paving the way for Annan with her connections.

However, later, Annan realized—he might have overthought it.

Paper Princess might have simply wanted to see him after a long time... and ultimately, she got so carried away with shopping that she lost track of time.

When she, together with Annan and Isaac, hurried back to Yawen’s place, it was already almost dusk.

"This is terrible..."

Paper Princess cried out.

Annan, however, calmed himself down, "It seems Yawen really isn’t in a hurry..."

Otherwise, he would have probably run out of patience and called them both back by now.

Speaking of which... Yawen’s true form seems to be a pigeon?

Like his three sisters, Yawen is one of the "winged beings," the "children of the night." His true form is probably the first pigeon in the world.

To pigeon someone is to constantly pigeon them.

It made sense.

What surprised Annan was seeing Paper Princess pull out a key from her bosom.

Just like opening a regular person’s door, she normally turned the key to unlock the door. Throughout the process, Annan didn’t sense any trace of Transcendent power.

There was no one alive on the first floor of the villa.

There were only sculptures and wax figures casually placed around.

But how to put it...

Like the sculptures made by the "Mirror Man."

These outstanding sculptures, in contrast, wouldn’t be mistaken for real people.

Annan had seen the wax figures collected by Beauty of Imbalance.

Those were top-level works among mortals, looking as though they had encased living people in wax. A quick glance could even frighten someone faint-hearted.

He had also seen the sculptures once made by Michelangelo.

Those sculptures gave Annan a different feel, not so much "real" but "more characteristic."

The postures and expressions of those sculptures had transcended typical human figures, not just "seemingly alive" but "like mythical figures."

They were such that a glance was enough to immediately understand that the sculpted individuals had no real-life counterparts.

The sculptures and wax figures made by Yawen also gave Annan a similar feeling.

But unlike those made by Michelangelo...

Yawen’s sculptures and wax figures imparted a sense of "this absolutely isn’t real" and yet a terrifying sensation that they "might come to life at any moment."

It was like walking into a dilapidated temple on a stormy, lightning-lit night, when a sudden flash of lightning illuminates a Buddha statue, revealing a sinister half-smile...

It was as if... these sculptures had souls.

Not that someone else’s soul had been sealed inside the sculpture, but rather that the sculpture itself had developed its own consciousness.

"Yo... you’re back."

Annan followed the Paper Princess upstairs. Before he could reach the third floor, an old voice leisurely emanated from above.

In the hall, an elderly man sat comfortably in the tea room, holding something in his left hand and a slender carving knife in his right, carving into his left palm.

This old man had a hooked nose, wore a beret, and had a deeply sunken eyes and gaunt face. His skin was slightly wrinkled; thick glasses sat on his face. He looked like an old scholar.

He was a bit like an elderly Zun or a thinner Osamu Tezuka. But what caught the eye were his fingers.

From an artist’s perspective, his fingers were too pale and slender. No calluses, yet they were extraordinarily steady.

As Yawen squinted and kept a straight face absorbed in his carving, it was impossible to discern his mood.

The old man just glanced sideways, catching a quick glimpse of Annan and the Paper Princess who had just come upstairs, "You remembered to come back, huh?"

Then, he nodded slightly to a chair beside him: "Sit."

"Uh..."

The Paper Princess hesitated and began to move closer unconsciously.

Yawen suddenly glared, "I didn’t tell you to sit! Stand over there and reflect first—child, you sit."

"Alright, thank you."

Annan neatly sat down beside Yawen.

He did not directly ask what he wanted to ask.

Instead, he turned his head to look at Yawen’s ongoing work.

It was merely a segment of a human finger bone, a complete middle finger.

But Annan didn’t need a magnifying glass to see within the extremely detailed carvings—steam engines, gears, firearms, springs... it was as if he could see a whole era just by looking at it.

Annan even had an illusion—if Yawen let go of this finger bone, the steam engines carved inside might start running on their own!

"This is bone carving."

Yawen stated indifferently, "An art form that people shun."

As he spoke, he gently blew on the finger bone and placed it in front of him.

Annan then noticed a brass right hand set in front of him. Its details were incredibly realistic, but the back of the hand was intentionally opened to reveal constantly turning gears inside.

And its thumb was made of living plant, the index finger from gemstone, the ring finger from wood, and the pinky from jade. They wrapped around the brass back of the hand seamlessly, creating a peculiar beauty of imperfection.

Yawen placed the newly-carved human middle finger bone onto the mechanical right hand, the only missing middle finger.

The mechanical hand suddenly clenched spontaneously.

In that instant, it turned into a "perfect object."

As if given life itself, it started floating on its own.

Yawen, however, no longer focused on the bone carving he had just been intensely focused on and waved his hand dismissively.

Then the "hand" bowed to Yawen and flew away on its own.

"Just a little trinket I made while waiting for you."

Yawen noticed Annan’s gaze and casually explained, "If you like it, take it with you when you leave."

At that, Yawen glared at the Paper Princess.

The Paper Princess emitted an embarrassed giggle.

In front of Annan, the Paper Princess acted like an elder, but in front of Yawen, she was like a little girl pretending to be well-behaved in front of her teacher.
