Chapter 530
Chapter 530: Chapter 249: Formidable Ability_2 Chapter 530: Chapter 249: Formidable Ability_2 Yang Qi answered beside the point, muttering to himself, “Human society is too terrifying. People's behavior lacks any logic, filled with confusion; I can't understand them. Compared to humans, theorems and formulas are much more reliable.”
Yan Fei knew that Yang Qi had once again fallen into a cognitive obstacle regarding human society. Compared to the laws and theorems Yang Qi could understand, the arbitrariness of human society was too great, with contradictory behaviors everywhere, which is why Yang Qi couldn't comprehend human behaviors, let alone what Yan Fei's question actually meant.
So Yan Fei tried a different approach, asking, “Yang Qi, did you make any bombs after coming to The United States of America?”
Yang Qi replied, “I haven't made anything.”
Yan Fei pressed further, “What exactly happened to you last night?”
Yang Qi explained, “Last night, I went to sleep early, then suddenly woke up to find the hotel had exploded. Right after that, someone barged into the room to capture me. If it hadn't been for Xiang Xiang suddenly rushing out to shield me from the bullets, I would have been killed.”
Yan Fei asked, “Then why are you here?”
Yang Qi said, “The US Police accused me of being a KB member, trying to capture me. I originally didn't want to leave; just by telling the police the truth, they would have realized this wasn't my doing, and they would have found the real KB member. But then Xiang Xiang told me that those people were deliberately framing me, that if I got caught, they would definitely kill me, and urged me to escape immediately.”
Yang Qi's eyes were empty as he recounted his ordeal as if it concerned a bystander. Looking down at the now deceased Xiang Xiang, he said, “Compared to the police, I was more inclined to believe what Xiang Xiang said, so I carried her on my back and fled the hotel. Once outside, I found a motorcycle with the engine still running and thus made my escape on it.”
Before arriving, Yan Fei had been certain that Yang Qi had been framed. Now, hearing Yang Qi narrate the sequence of events himself, Yan Fei was even more convinced of the setup, as Yang Qi was someone who wouldn't lie. However, Yan Fei immediately noticed something peculiar in Yang Qi's story and asked, “Yang Qi, I remember that the hotel you were staying at should be in the suburbs of Los Angeles, which is a good four hundred kilometers from here. How did you make it from Los Angeles to the Rocky Mountains? Didn't you encounter any police checkpoints along the way?”
According to the Los Angeles Police's public statement, after discovering the hotel explosion, they had identified Yang Qi as a KB member and issued a warrant for his arrest. How, then, did Yang Qi safely travel several hundred kilometers to the desolate Rocky Mountains while under a warrant for his arrest? Generally, even a normal person would have difficulty escaping Los Angeles in such a situation, let alone someone suffering from Scholar Syndrome. How could he achieve all this?
Yang Qi replied, “When I left Los Angeles with Xiang Xiang, it was still deep into the night, and we didn't encounter any police checks while riding the motorcycle. We only came upon some roadblocks at a few junctions, forcing us to alter our route. Unknowingly, we left Los Angeles and arrived at the Rocky Mountains. Upon entering the Rockies, I should have continued along the main road, but Xiang Xiang, who had been shot, suddenly felt pain and began coughing up blood, so I took the motorcycle off the main road to bandage her wounds. When we were about to set off again, I discovered another highway, so I continued along that road. When the motorcycle's gasoline ran out, that's when I realized we had reached this canyon's entrance and had no choice but to carry Xiang Xiang into the canyon.”
Looking at the deceased Xiang Xiang, Yan Fei asked, “Do you know how Xiang Xiang died?”
Yang Qi said, “Xiang Xiang was shot three times, all serious wounds. Unfortunately, she didn't receive timely treatment and then died from excessive blood loss. The 'extremely urgent' part of the message I sent you referred to the critical condition Xiang Xiang was in.”
Having heard this, Yan Fei fully understood the whole story. The whole affair with Yang Qi was a thorough conspiracy, a trap meant to lure Yan Fei out of Misty Island and then capture him. The reason Yang Qi was able to escape from Los Angeles to the Rocky Mountains was entirely due to a ruse set by the United States of America. That's why Yang Qi didn't encounter any police inspections along the way, and the roadblocks that appeared at some key intersections were there to force Yang Qi into their pre-set ambush. However, nobody expected that Yang Qi would suddenly change his route, causing them to lose track of him.
If these arrangements had been made against an ordinary person, that person would certainly have noticed something was amiss. But Yang Qi was incapable of contemplating human conspiracies, so he didn't detect anything wrong and obediently followed the other party's plan. Only his last brilliant move caused those who thought they understood Yang Qi well to make a mistake.
Yang Qi suddenly said, “Yan Fei, I don't want any more contact with human society. I want to focus on studying science. Can you help me?”
Seeing Yang Qi as pure as a little white rabbit, Yan Fei felt a twinge of sadness. Yang Qi had always tried to fit into human society, to understand what human society truly was, and to comprehend whether human behavior could be understood. To achieve this, he was even willing to give up his favorite scientific research, accept an ordinary woman as his girlfriend, and start discussing marriage. But now everything had collapsed. He was being hunted like a lost dog, and his girlfriend had been shot and killed trying to save him. Thus, Yang Qi immediately retracted his steps of trying to understand and integrate into human society, no longer wanting to do so.
Upon learning what had happened to Yang Qi, Yan Fei's first reaction was anger. But his second reaction wasn't to immediately seek justice for Yang Qi or avenge Xiang Xiang, but to first rescue Yang Qi back to Misty Island. Presently, Yan Fei lacked the necessary strength and influence, so the truth of the whole matter would have to be investigated later.
Yan Fei had to take Yang Qi away but could not leave Xiang Xiang's body alone here. From Yang Qi's account, it was clear that although Xiang Xiang was an ordinary woman with little culture, she had been sincere in her treatment of Yang Qi, even willing to give up her life for his sake–a woman worthy of respect. Thus, with Yang Qi's consent, Yan Fei decided to cremate Xiang Xiang and take her ashes back to China.
Yan Fei gathered some dry wood from the canyon, then set it on fire to cremate Xiang Xiang. After the flames died down, Yan Fei took a small urn from Universal Space and began collecting the ashes on the ground. Once the collection of ashes was complete, Yan Fei found two deformed bullets among the ashes. After thinking it over, Yan Fei placed these two bullets into the ash urn. Yang Qi immediately took the urn and held it in his arms.
Watching Yang Qi's action, Yan Fei felt a pang of sorrow. It seemed that through the time they spent together, Yang Qi had indeed grown fond of Xiang Xiang. Otherwise, he wouldn't have brought her with him to flee here, nor would have stayed by her side until the very end. Perhaps Yang Qi had begun to understand the complexities of society, but Xiang Xiang's death made him retract his steps and revert back to the naive and foolish sufferer of Scholar Syndrome he once was.
After dealing with Xiang Xiang's body, Yan Fei noticed a small house by the pond, which was somewhat dilapidated. The ground was littered with various electronic devices. From their contours, it appeared these electronic devices were parts of several telephones.
After asking Yang Qi, Yan Fei learned that upon arriving here, Yang Qi, having discovered several old telephones in the room, actually dismantled their parts and created a signal transmission device. Using this transmission device, he connected to the outside Network World and sent a distress email to Yan Fei.
But Yang Qi didn't trust the security of the network mailboxes, always feeling that the message wouldn't reach Yan Fei, which is why he used that number game to hide the real location coordinates within it, deceiving the US Forces that were monitoring the mailbox, leading them to take the wrong action. And Yan Fei, recalling the games he often played, found Yang Qi's true location.
From this, one could see just how formidable Yang Qi's abilities were. Relying on some almost unusable junk, he managed to create a strange device that could not only pinpoint his location but also connect to the Network World and send messages. He even used this device to conceal real information, causing his enemies to run in the wrong direction.
