Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Learning to Drive

After Phoenix Taylor left without providing her contacts, the two men didn’t know what she was up to. After dinner, Edward Martin made a call and a young man soon arrived by car.

"This is Briar, my brother. His father is the captain of the traffic police." Edward introduced to Peter Brown.

"Nice to meet you."

Peter reached out and shook the man’s hand.

"Nice to meet you too, Mr. Roger is my boss. Call me Briar, no formalities necessary." Briar was tactful, knowing that Peter must have a special relationship with Edward.

"Let’s go, Peter doesn’t have a driver’s license yet, let him practice first."

After they walked outside, they saw a sports car parked.

Peter didn’t say much. After settling into the car, they drove off.

"Peter, keep Briar’s number. Any car issue you have in this province, you can ask him, he knows some ins and outs."

"I appreciate it, Mr. Briar."

Peter appeared respectful and didn’t call him Briar, instead he addressed him formally as "Mr."

Briar seemed very satisfied with this, and while driving, said, "You’re Peter Brown, right? Mr. Roger has mentioned you to me before. If you ever need anything, just give me a call." He then handed Peter a business card.

As they chatted, the car arrived at a driving school where a short, fat man greeted them.

Spotting Briar, the man quickly said, "Mr. Briar, we failed to honor you properly since we didn’t know you were visiting."

Briar pointed at Peter and said: "This is the person I was talking about on the phone, find a coach to teach him."

"Everything’s set up, please come with me."

While they were talking, Peter noticed a middle-aged coach getting into a trainer car parked nearby.

"My name is Michael Lee, do you know how to drive?"

Peter slightly nodded and said, "I’ve learned before, but, Coach Lee, I’d appreciate if you could repeat the instructions for me."

Michael Lee then allowed Peter to sit inside and began to explain in detail.

While he was narrating, Peter was internally rehearsing Michael’s operations. After Michael finished his demonstration, Peter asked him to make some road movements that the licensing exam would require.

After one round, Michael looked at Peter doubtfully and said, "Why don’t you give it a try?"

In Peter’s mind, he had already memorized the instructions. He thought to himself, this is much simpler than refining.

"Okay, let me give it a shot."

The first time, Peter was slightly awkward. By the second time, he had become more comfortable and by the third, his operations were identical to the coach’s.

Watching Peter’s skilled manoeuvres, Michael asked, "You had a driver’s license before, didn’t you?" From Michael’s point of view, only experienced drivers could operate the car as smoothly as Peter.

Learning to drive gave Peter a sense of pride, he chuckled and said, "I have learned before, yeah."

"All right, there’s nothing else I can teach you, your driving skills are entirely problem-free, you just need to be cautious on the road."

While Edward and the others had just finished a cup of tea in the office, they saw Michael come in with Peter.

The driving school’s manager looked at Michael and said, "How come you’re back so soon?"

Michael gave a bitter smile and said, "He’s already an experienced driver, very skilled. There was nothing for me to teach him, his movements are perfect, he’s absolutely ready for the exam."

This time, even Edward was surprised and said, "Really?"

Michael affirmed, "Yes, very impressive. There should be no problem, he just needs to be careful on the road."

"Well done, you’re a real all-rounder man, fill in the form and take a photo to submit to them. Let Briar help you with the rest, you’ll get your license tomorrow."

Briar laughed and said, "Since he’s an experienced driver, it’s easy to handle. There will be absolutely no problem, I’ll alert them to expedite processing and get you your license. Let’s go eat some game, there’s a restaurant on the provincial highway that does it really well."

After filling out the form and taking a photo, the driving school manager left with Peter’s pictures to assist him with his license application. Peter didn’t need to worry about anything.

Once the car was off the city roads and in the open, Edward said to Peter, "You try driving, let me see how you handle it on the road."

Seeing both of them confidently let him take the wheel, Peter said, "In case I get caught for driving without a license, remember that you guys asked me to drive."

Briar laughed heartily and said, "Don’t worry, within these three miles, nobody dares to mess with me, relax, I’ve got you."

Peter had observed Briar’s driving earlier and was eager to give it a try. After switching seats, Peter started the car.

At the start, Peter drove slowly, gradually finding his groove. Especially now as a cultivator, his Divine Sense was much stronger than Briar’s, the car got faster and faster as if it was gliding along the road effortlessly.

"Damn, have you driven this kind of sports car before?" Briar looked at Peter in surprise.

Briar was initially a bit worried, but seeing Edward’s faith in Peter, he let Peter drive even though he was still apprehensive. But when he saw Peter’s driving skills improve from initial awkwardness to proficiency, he couldn’t help but ask.

Edward also expressed his surprise, "Peter, sports cars are not easy to handle. You’re pretty good at this, driving so fast and still handling it smoothly."

Peter was now more familiar, and while driving, he smiled and said, "Not bad, the car is pretty good."

Briar laughed loudly, "Mr. Roger used to brag about your skills, and I was sceptical, but now I admire you. You really are awesome."

By then, it was getting darker and they were near the restaurant. While driving, something caught Peter’s attention. Looking at the road ahead, he saw a ghost standing by the side of the road.

What’s going on?

However, they were driving too fast, so by the time the ghost tried to spring at the car, they had already zoomed past it.

Peter wanted to take another look, but the car was speeding away too quickly. After considering it for a moment, Peter decided not to address it and focus on the road instead.

Edward noticed Peter’s expression change and hurriedly asked, "What happened?"

"There was a ghost." Peter casually commented.

"Damn, there’s no such thing as ghosts. Don’t scare me."

Briar thought Peter was joking and he teased him laughing.

As someone who had first-hand experience with ghosts before, Edward looked grave and asked seriously, "Really?"

"It’s okay, we’re past that part now."

At this time, Peter saw a countryside restaurant by the side of the road.

"We are here, this is the place."

"We’re at our destination." Briar confirmed.
